Purchased a pair of JBL L82 Classic bookshelf speakers to replace my JBL L220s that I sold recently. It would not be fair to compare the 82s with the 220s since the 220s are a totally different kind of speaker with a 14" woofer and a 15" passive radiator in each cabinet. But with a subwoofer along with the 82s the sound is surprisingly comparable.
The sound of the 82s is well-defined for listening at moderate sound levels. I prefer taking the grille covers off....treble is crisper and more defined. The sound of these speakers is on the "warm" side which I prefer. The tweeter level control is a plus. You are not going to get the impression of a "wall of sound" like the larger L220s. After all, these only have an 8" woofer and are classed as bookshelf. But for a smaller room at moderate listening levels these are nice speakers. If you like heavier bass as I do, a subwoofer would be recommended. The separate JBL stands are a good addition and enhance the sound. I like them!
