I bought this subwoofer for 50$ at my local best buy after a uneventful search for one at local pawn shops that was affordable, and sounded great. I went to bestbuy to conclude my search. If it wasn't here, I wasn't buying a sub. Then, I saw this. It normally runs for 100$ but there was a deal on it that I couldn't pass up. I asked a sound tech what he thought of it, and he convinced me that it was worthy of purchase. After building the enclosure for the sub, I installed the wiring. I was blown away by the sound it produced! It is loud enough in my trunk to make my heart skip a beat. The incredible thing about this, is I listen to classic rock. The enclosure is not ported, which allows the bass notes to be more accurate and precise. The downside is that it's output is reduced. So the fact that it makes the windows shake should impress anyone. This sub can handle any syle of music. I've played anything from classical to rap to death metal and it always impresses me every time it hits a note. I'm not just talking it up, I'm telling how it is. It's been great so far, and I have no complaints. As long as you don't go out of your way to push it's limits, this will be a reliable sub for many years to come.

Best BANG For Your Buck! (Pun Intended)

I purchased this subwoofer to replace my JL Audio BassWedge system that was stolen a few months ago. The box and sub were the only things taken so that was all I needed to replace. I spent $300 on that package and I absolutely loved it! However, since I'm not keeping my car for much longer, I didn't want to break the bank replacing it. So I just needed something good and cheap. I picked the Kenwood up for $50 on sale and I'm so glad I did! With the sale price, it was the cheapest one available but the sales rep assured me that it would sound great... and he wasn't kidding! I picked up a ported box off the shelf and the installers had it assembled and installed in 20 minutes! And this thing hits HARD! I'm very impressed with it annnnnnd I spent less than HALF of what I spent on my original system and I can't even tell the difference! The ONLY wish that I have is that there was a grill or cover made for it to protect for the other stuff in my trunk.

      Great Sub

I bought two of these and thought "these subs might be decent." Then I get home, I hook one up bridged with my Memphis 15" sub and wow. The Kenwood made it twice as loud at least. So I decided just hook two up and not use the Memphis... It was a great idea. My system is now run on a 400 Watt Kenwood KAC-5206 and it might sound crazy but this combination is brutal. I took a shot with getting the 12"s and was very impressed so then I took a shot at a little 400 watt amp and it outshines any system I've ever had. These subs are sooo worth your money and if you know what you are doing you can make them sound better than you ever could imagine.

      Amazing max power

I have 2 of these in a standard fosgate box, with a 1000 watt sony xplode amp. My radio settings on bass go from 0-8, and the sub settings go from 0-15. My max volume is 35, but I stay at 30 because it gets a little fuzzy and I don't want to blow out my speakers. At 0 on both, you can barely tell they're in the trunk of my 98 4runner SUV. For balanced volume to bass, I keep sub settings at 11 and bass at 0 and they sound great. However, if I want window rattling bass, they deliver surprisingly well. I turn the volume up to 25, sub settings at 15 and bass at 4. They boom like 200$ subs. Vibrates my nostrils, rattles my rear and side view mirrors with ease, and my house windows if I'm close enough. I don't see why anyone would need more bass than that. I was think about buying some new alpines, but blaring the bass changed my mind. They're reliable too. Had them for a year and no problems whatsoever and still going strong. Amazing subs can't believe they're 50$.

didn't even finish the first song, don't buy

      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

to start off, for the price of this sub and the name, i bought it. i bought it along with its recommended kenwood amp. both 300 watts. long story short, i got it installed, went for a drive and before the song even finished the sub stopped working. i drove back home and began to investigate. i then began to play a song and went to rear to listen to the sub, literally sounded like gears grinding. i had the sub in a sealed box, i unscrewed the sub from the box and a large cloud came pouring out. it blew. i just started laughing because I've installed systems in a few other vehicles not including the three i own. I've never owned a kenwood sub, and i won't be buying another one. i returned this and went with the JBL 250 rms, 1000 w max power. played the same song and it didn't blow. i don't recommend this sub, however i do recommend its counter part, kenwood amp. if you want to make multiple trips to best buy, get this one

      Best BOOM for the buck

It doesn't show me as a verified purchaser but I bought this from BB a year ago for a great price and it's earned it's keep. Built an enclosed case, larger than recommended, and sounds incredible. It's so powerful, it would loosen the screws so I changed to brackets, adhesive caulk and duct tape(jk). People blowing these are obviously pushing it too hard. I used a cheap Dual XPR52 with bridged output of 200W rms and 600W peak @ 4 ohms. I've heard people say to get a stronger amp but I've found that it's easier and cheaper to couple the sub to an amp with slightly less the end, you'll have crisp, deep bass and not have to worry about it blowing.

I grew up with Rockfords and MTXs and have been without an aftermarket subwoofer in my car for about 15 years. Did some comparisons between the Alpine, Panasonic, Kicker, and Kenwood 10's and 12's. This 12" Kenwood sounded as good if not better than the sub twice and much. I have it hooked up to a kicker amp 150rms @ 4ohms and it hits harder than I need. I actually have the gain set at the half-way point and keep my Kenwood head unit subwoofer setting at -15 most of the time and turn it up to -5 when I listen to heavy bass songs. Basically what I'm saying is, if you are just looking for a good sub that won't break the bank but will still shake the windows of the houses as you go down the street, this is it.

      Great for $50

Definitely worth the $50. At first the sub sounded bad and didn't respond to intense bass very well and wasn't very loud, but as I used it and it broke in it obtained a respectable volume and decent hard hitting bass. At only $50 and 250 watts RMS I wasn't expecting very much but it performs perfectly for what it was built for. I have it in a ported enclosure with 1.3 cubic feet or air space and tuned to 34 Hz and I'm only using a 200 watt amp and it works great . Only con about it is the low frequency response isn't amazing, but hey, it was cheap and otherwise works great. Get one for yourself if you're looking for a cheap or entry level sub that doesn't requre large and expensive amps and enclosures.
