    Synopsis

    Killing Them Softly
A professional enforcer investigates the brazen robbery of a high-stakes mob poker game in this crime thriller directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and adapted from a novel by George V. Higgins. Livid over the fact that three low-level thieves have crashed the entire underworld economy, the mob's top brass hires Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt) to see that the bandits pay for their crime. The closer Cogan gets to his target, however, the more he finds his mission complicated by an alcoholic hit man who's well past his prime, incompetent gangsters, and the playboy host of the inauspicious game. James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Ben Mendelsohn, Richard Jenkins, and Scoot McNairy co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Sort of low rent Scorcese, but gritty and entertaining. A heist by some dimbulb bad guys of a mob poker game that quickly comes apart at the seams. A bit talky at times, but the dialogue is ripe. And when the action kicks in, it's brutal and suspenseful and provocatively staged. A bevy of terrific performances by Scoot McNairy, the late James Gandolfini, and Brad Pitt as a philosophical hitman, who delivers one of the most chilling and political final movie linex I've ever heard. Found myself riveted every time I came across this on cable, so bought it. Happy I did.

Killing Them Softly may not be the movie the poster and box art suggests, nor the movie that many online product reviewers thought they were watching, but it's a truly great film. It's a methodically-paced look at society and the economy, centered around the mob and crime. It also features the most tense, gripping and best scene in any movie from 2012 that I saw. Plus Pitt is great in it, as usual. Watch this movie.

At face value, it's an enjoyable crime thriller. But if you want to look deeper, the metaphors within this movie are super clever and, dare I say, brilliant. I am frankly shocked at the low reviews by laypeople this movie has gotten. I think maybe part of the reason is they see Brad Pitt holding a gun on the cover and expect a big shoot em up movie, and not have to think. Maybe people get offended by the politics within too.

Killing Them Softly is quite an impressive film, it offers a standard plot line; however, it's still thoroughly enjoyable. Brad Pitt, Scott McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins & James Gandolfini turns out some exciting performances. It is a sort of dark comedy and it's quite entertaining. You can't beat the price at Bestbuy and you get the DVD and Blu Ray and a Digital Copy. Wicked! Check it out.

Was a disappointed in this movie. Lack of complexity with the plot, fairly weak storyline. Could have told the story in an hour, just not enough going on. With that bring said, I'll watch it again hoping to find a little more. Couldn't recommend this movie to anyone. Very average at best.

Amazing performances throughout and an intense story to boot only makes this film unforgettable. Lots of intense action sequences laced between the dirty underbelly of American society keeps you on your toes, and once the finale rolls in you'll be shocked and awed.
