King of the Grizzlies [DVD] [1970]

Ron Kelly's tale of friendship between a human and a bear, King of the Grizzlies, comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this Disney/Buena Vista release to anyone other than a genre enthusiast, or someone looking for family friendly entertainment. Sadly, there is little here for the average DVD consumer.

Synopsis

King of the Grizzlies
Moki (John Yesno) is the Indian foreman at a ranch owned by The Colonel (Chris Higgins). He watches as a baby grizzly bear becomes his playful friend before going off on his own. Years later, the bear returns as a menacing adult and threatens the cattle protected by Moki. When the Colonel wants to kill the bear, Moki interferes. The bear remembers his old friend Moki and seeks another way to satisfy his ravenous hunger in this tepid Walt Disney feature narrated by Winston Hibler. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi
