Kingston Technology - DataTraveler Special Edition 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive

I needed a USB drive on my keychain. I bought 6 different ones (some purchased at Amazon and some at Staples). This one is my favorite. The metal casing feels strong yet light. And it fits easily on any keychain. It's about 80% the size of a standard house key (see my photo that I added). Also, it's very good looking. Looks great on the keychain; looks great when inserted into any computer. The drive read/write speeds are a little on the slow side but reasonable. I timed some file transfers on my computer (Dell Optiplex 380): * For read speeds, I averaged 16.1 MB/s (ranged from 10 MB/s to 18 MB/s). * For write speeds, I averaged 6.8 MB/s (ranged from 4 MB/s to 11 MB/s). In general, larger files took longer to transfer than smaller files (single 300 MB file took longer to move than one hundred 3 MB files). Other users with the same device have reported an average of 17-18 MB/s read speeds and 11-12 MB/s write speeds. These are considered to be AVERAGE speeds for usb flash drives. If speed is of the essence, then look for a high speed drive that can read/write 30 MB/s or faster. If you're mostly transferring documents, photos, and other small files, then these speeds should suffice. Another small complaint. I do not feel a 'click' when the drive is inserted fully. So I just push until it won't go in anymore or when I see that the computer has recognized the drive. A minor annoyance in an otherwise great USB drive. I highly recommend this drive. While the speed on this device is not top notch, its performance is reliable and it comes in a great little package.

It's small, it's metal, and no moving parts. Just like a key. I carry it everywhere, because it fits on my keychain just like my car or house key. If I need to grab a file from someone, it's right there. I'm told this model is a little slow, but I haven't noticed it. It's just another flash drive, except for its nice mechanical configuration. I remember "sneakernet" from the 1980s, when we carried files from computer to computer on floppy disks. Inelegant, but very simple and handy. This is sneakernet with 40,000 times the capacity and more than enough speed to make up for the extra capacity.

I have used a lot of Flash drives over the years - in my business I need them, have to have one with me on site visits all the time. Many of them break, some get lost, cause they don't have a reliable way to travel (i.e, don't have a sturdy way to attach to a key ring, etc.) This drive is well made, sturdy, durable, yet still quite small, with a large capacity. There are no moving or exposed parts to break. It has a strong non-breakable loop for attaching to a key ring. This is perfect for my needs.

I bought this drive after breaking and losing multiple drives in the past. Kingston has a real winner with this design. I simply keep it on my lanyard with my work badge and keys. The sturdy metal case has proved impervious thus far. The drive is an excellent product at a great price point. I paid only $3.21 for this drive after redeeming a reward certificate ($5.00) and taking advantage of Best Buy's daily deal. The product shipped free and was received in three days.

Great thumb drive design eliminated the worry of having the connector break off and loss of drive since the keyring connection is part of the case. Small size and all metal looks are nice too. I would have liked the drive to come with an optional rubber cap but I'm sure the drive will be fine. Transfer speeds were about standard for a drive in this price range.

This is a very nice, all metal casing, USB flash memory drive. I chose it because the housing is all metal, and it has a nice big hole at one end so you can put it on a key ring or clip (like mountain climbers use). The metal case should survive being on a key ring in my pocket. I use these as boot keys for encrypted laptops, so it is natural to keep it on my key ring, as it is like the ignition key for the laptop. The only thing I wish it had is a write protect switch, so I could load it with the boot code image, then write protect it. The other features make it worthwhile anyway; I will just have to be careul and not over-write it, or I won't be able to boot the laptop.

Wanted a flash drive that would always be with me. This drive is small, durable, and very light weight. The connectors are protected by the outside case and never ware out. The aluminum case is small and attractive. Comes in a variety of memory sizes. Fits on key chain easily and the key chain connector is very strong meaning that it won't accidentally snap off like some cheaper varieties. The ladt thing you want is to lose it.
