Kirk Douglas Collection [2 Discs] [DVD]

This box set caters to fans of screen legend Kirk Douglas, with five of the actor's feature films, produced between 1946 and 1972. It begins with the 1972 Dick Clement-directed thriller To Catch a Spy, with Douglas as a manuscript smuggler who accidentally gets mistaken for a spy. Next on the roster is 1952's drama The Big Trees, with Douglas as a lumberjack who fights for the heart of a Quaker girl and must fend off some unsavory timber barons. 1948's romantic comedy My Dear Secretary stars Douglas as a womanizing novelist whose world is turned upside down by a secretary (Doris Day). 1972's thriller The Master Touch stars Douglas as a thief, just sprung from prison, who decides to pull one last heist. Finally, 1946's Lewis Milestone classic The Strange Love of Martha Ivers constitutes Douglas's screen debut; he plays the passive husband of a femme fatale (Barbara Stanwyck), who launches a scheme to eliminate him and silence an ex-lover who witnessed her committing a crime.
