I would like to begin this review by saying I got a wonderful open box deals for this KitchenAid refrigerator. What supposed to be $2200, I was able to buy for $1150. With that said, this is a great refrigerator. Both freezer and refrigerator remains nice & cold. Shelving throughout is durable (unlike my old Frigidaire). The only 2 issues I have encountered with this product is the ice maker and the control panels. The ice maker is really slow making ice. I mean really slow. I have a family of nine kids and we use the ice machine a lot for our extracurricular sports activities. This machine can only produce a full tray of ice if you do not touch it for 2-3 days. I have read other reviews that said this, but I had to see it for myself. They were right. The next issue I have is the control panel is digital above the water and ice dispenser. Althought this has a lot of features, it is not necessarily user friendly. I can safely say I can maneuver through electronics without having major issues. The only thing I can do right now without having to spend a lot of time reading the manual is being able to lock all my preferences and also be able to pre-measure the water dispenser. Gone are the days we can mess around with switches and figure out how something works. I am pretty sure I will figure it out eventually. With that said, we had the opportunity to return this to Best Buy within our first 15 days and we decided to keep it because overall we thought this Kitchenaid refrigerator does have more positives than negatives especially for the great price we bought it for. I rated it a 3 star because I took out 1 star for the slow ice maker and 1 star for the non-user friendly control panels. Hopefully this reviews helps you.

      Not worth the trouble

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

I purchased this unit in Oct. 2014 when my old Kitchen-aid refrigerator went out. Since then, the unit has had 5 repairs done to it. Two repairs were covered under the product warranty(with-in a year from purchase date) and 3 under the extended warranty (cost about $300 for 3 years). I purchased the extended warranty after it broke the second time. Lemon law does not cover this product until it breaks 4 times under the same warranty!!!! (Should get it replaced SOON) The unit has great lighting, ice machine and water dispenser works excellent and the shelving worked well for us but overall this refrigerator is not worth the trouble. If you still want this refrigerator, make sure you purchase the extended warranty and have a spare unit to put all your food in because each repair took a week to two weeks for the parts to come in after the technician came out to work on it. I do want to mention that I have the Kitchen-aid stove top, oven, microwave and dishwasher also in my kitchen and all work excellent. I guess this refrigerator was just a bad product. Hope this helps.

Great lighting, but still has issues

In looking at the other reviews before buying the fridge, I was a bit hesitant. However, I found the fridge has enough storage for the space I am limited to. The lighting is amazing and really brights up the full area, regardless of how well it is filled. However, there are 2 issues which I have noticed within owning the fridge for 2 days. 1. The ice maker is extremely slow! It is still not up to full capacoty, or anywhere near it, even though it has been running for the 2 days. 2. As mentioned in other posts the fridge door swings open and has no limitations, u til it reached that complete 180 degree. Although the fact that is opens itself to the full is great, I have noticed that if things are in the drawers, they do move around a little bit. With this in mind, I still like the fridge and am very happy I purchased it. I did get the 5 year warranty, just in case anything does happen, and would def recommend it to anyone else that purchases it, just in case anything wrong does happen with it in the somewhat near future. Good luck everyone and hope this helps :)

Normally I do not write reviews but I am so disappointed in this purchase I don't want people to make the same mistake I did. I purchased this refrigerator 6 months ago and in that time I have had to replace the bottom drawer three times as the handle keeps breaking. The first time I blamed it on my kids, but the next time I broke it and after using epoxy to fix it, I noticed how poorly the design is. As I am writing this review, Kitchen Aid is sending me a new drawer for the 3rd time. The other issue with this refrigerator is the ice maker is slow, very slow, to the point that when we have family or friends over we purchase an extra bag of ice and keep it in the garage refrigerator. On a positive note, Kitchen Aid has been great to work with and I like the water dispenser once measurement feature. This comes in handy every Monday when I start my diet to lose weight then by Wednesday I give up on my diet because I don't like to drink water, hence the wine rack feature.

Love the way this appliance looks in the kitchen. It's built very well and all the shelves, drawers, handles are substantial and easy to move. I will say there are only a few configurations that allow you to have a gallon of milk on the door and still shut the door. The shelf on the door will bump the drawer if you have the drawer up too high and the shelf too low. They did make the most of the interior space - the shelves are deep and I'm very pleased with the space in the freezer as most side by side fridges seem to neglect design in the freezer section. The lighting is well done and evenly dispersed so that no matter where you place your food or containers you don't block the lighting for other shelves. No cold spots, keeps food just as you expect. Ice and water dispenser work very well. Ice maker is smallish and a little slow, but if you don't use an incredible amount of ice in a day (like trying to host a party without purchasing bags of ice or fill a cooler) it's not a problem at all once the dispenser is full it has no problem keeping up with normal daily use.

      good with minor issues

Noisier than the old GE fridge it replaced, although the geek squad service person said that noisier is typical for Kitchenaid and that the unit is functioning normally. Turned off the icemaker, which helped. Compressor is the primary source of noise and I might acoustically insulate the cabinet enclosure for the fridge to see if that helps with the noise. Also has bottom fridge door hinge which makes a clicking every time the door is opened or closed. Geek squad service person showed me that it's not broken, but we couldn't determine the source of the noise. However, this thing is gorgeous especially inside. The interior lighting and materials are what got the sale. Everything else works well. Overall, almost great but ends up only good. Kind of like buying an expensive car that has a few annoying things that fall short of 5 stars.

I have my condo for sale so I was very disappointed to find out I needed to replace my Bosch refrigerator that went bad after just 7 years. I went to the Best Buy outlet store in Burbank and there were many refrigerators to chose from. My Bosch was a counter depth but I chose a full size Kitchen Aid model for several reasons, it was not as deep as most on the market today so it fit my space better than most full size models would have, it's got great, bright lighting inside, glass shelves instead of plastic, and a fabulous price at the outlet store. The ice maker is a little noisy when it drops the new cubes. I have been very happy with this refrigerator, it holds a lot and it's easy to see everything.'s a top brand.

We purchased a Samsung which was very noisy (we tried two). The KitchenAid was admirably quiet. However, the doors could not be leveled even though they sent a tech to re-level them. Also, the doors were not evenly matched across the front. One door stuck out about one-quarter inch more than the other. This could not be fixed. They sent out a replacement and it was just as bad. The refrigerator door did not seal properly. The “open” light would go out but the door was not sealed. The shelves could not really be adjusted very well. If you moved a shelf it hit the trays on the door. Junk. I would not recommend to an enemy let alone a friend.
