I have these two speakers as my front left and right as part of a 5.1 setup. I frequently game/listen to music, but since my listening space isn't particularly large, I had initially went with a simple and cost-effective setup: the Energy Take 5.1 HTIB, paired with an appropriate Yamaha receiver to go with my 42" 1080p Sharp TV. This served well enough for a while, especially as a first step into home theater. Eventually, as I did some more research and after sampling different speakers, I decided to take advantage of the Black Friday deals and upgrade my sound (a selfish Christmas shopping experience, I know). I have always been a fan of Klipsch for their consistency of quality, and these speakers certainly did not disappoint. After hooking them up, I did a test run with some of my favourite dance music and was immediately impressed with the power these babies have--the baseline came through fierce and strong, but not boomy or muffled. Percussive hits were sharp, and vocals were so clear it was as if the artist were singing in the room. Seriously, clarity is where these speakers really shine. When I turned on my PS4 and booted up Uncharted 2, the sounds of the jungles of Borneo enveloped the room; I could hear the footsteps of enemy soldiers splashing through the mucky water so clearly, I scarcely had to look at the screen to pinpoint their locations, and stealth takeouts became a breeze (not to brag, of course). Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Superb sound for a fairly affordable price--my only complaint is that these speakers now overpower the others in my current setup, and I'm afraid now I'll have to replace them all to match the quality. If you are a beginner in surround-sound gaming and you're looking to take the next step, these are the speakers for you.

I purchased these recently to replace my home theater in a box set that came with my Onkyo receiver years ago. I just recently became heavily involved in music again after purchasing a turntable and felt my system needed a little improvement. First and foremost these are an extremely attractive set of speakers and aren't too large at all. I mounted them to the wall with side mount brackets and they look fantastic! Once I hooked them up I took them for a "spin". At first they sounded AWFUL and I was wondering if I made a mistake. But after some reading I realized I probably needed to rework my EQ settings on my receiver to accommodate the new speakers. It took some time and tweaking but within an hour or so these babies started to seriously sing! The sound is lush and full, nothing is overpowering, and due to the added frequency response I was able to drastically lower my sub volume (definitely need a sub with bookshelf speakers). Now I have solid tight bass, a full midrange that isn't muddy or hollow, and crisp highs. The secret was to actually LOWER most of the EQ bands, which had been cranked up to make my previous speakers sound passable! Definitely worth the effort. Bottom line, don't buy into the negative reviews about the sound. Your system will likely need adjustment if you are going from lower end speakers to these but the effort will be seriously rewarded. I would not hesitate to recommend these. They are very reasonably priced for what you get.

I currently have a small HTiB set up that has done ok for what I paid. I've been wanting to slowly replace speakers until I have a full 5.1 system in place. My wife spotted these as an open box sale for $186. No scratches, covers were intact and everything looked fine so we bought them. Since I already had wires run, all I had to do was swap the speakers out and then gave them a go. These sound really good. Much better than I expected. A lot of people say Klipsch sound too harsh over time. To me, they sound crisp and detailed. I play a lot of xbox (currently Destiny) and everything sounds so much better. Reloading a shotgun sounds crunchy and visceral. When I punch (Titan master race!) somebody, it sounds meaty. When I fire a rocket, the sound is incredible. After testing it on Destiny, my wife and I decided it watch a movie. It just so happens that the Dark Knight was on free on demand! WOW! Fantastic! I think the biggest thing I've noticed it that these are loud where they need to be, where I'm sitting. My other speakers would be loud but go down the hallway to the bedroom and they were actually louder. Now with the Klipsch, I can crank it up and the sound stays focused in the listening area. I thought it was just me but my wife said she could barely hear it in the bedroom but it was much louder once she came back to the living room. Nice! I am super impressed with these and I'm glad my wife spotted the open box sale. I cant wait to get the center channel, moves these to the back and add towers and a good sub!!

Fantastic sound! Warm and Crystal clear

When I first hooked up these speakers I thought they sounded a little harsh with a thin vocal . However , this was totally my fault I had the treble set at +4. Once I turned it down to around 0 or neutral the warmth poured back into them I actually settled on +1 for treble +3 bass. These speakers have good strong bass for a 5.25 woofer however I did add a subwoofer and it did fill out the sound. After playing them for around 12 hours for a couple of days the cymbals and treble was very present but was sweet sounding not harsh at all. I have heard things with these speakers I have never heard before. They are crystal clear!!! most importantly warm as well once broken in. Even though these speakers are more efficient than most I have heard klipsch speakers like a strong receiver so don't buy a cheap disposable receiver and expect it to sound good. My best advice while testing at Best Buy remember you are in a huge store so bass is omnidirectional so it will sound weak also most important make sure you have the Best Buy sales person set the treble to around neutral not all the way up. Most places turn the bass and treble all the way up and forget about it and think that sounds best. With some speakers maybe not Klipsch. This has to be one of the best purchases I have ever made. I know they were not on sale but at $249.00 with this sound quality I would have probably paid more. If you find them on sale jump on them don't hesitate great purchase.

    Soundstage more forward than wide

You definitely get a little more for your money but the bookshelf speakers aren’t quite as versatile as I was hoping. They have a forward focused soundstage which was a surprise considering the wide dispersion tweeters. When I tried them on two separate receivers with live or arena surround they reduce the effect a bit. They still sound more wide open than on bypass but the effects seems to fade in and out compared to my original speakers. The bass is good but can only handle moderate levels before the woofer starts to distort. I’m starting to find this common of smaller drivers on “high end” speakers. Break-in period doesn’t seem to help that improve but they do seem to mellow a little. I originally tried these on a good sized amp with very low THD. This was in a large room with good separation and that’s probably where the speakers were more at home. It’s very nice clarity without being harsh as others have mentioned. You will hear details in the music you might not have heard before but I have found that true with a wide range of speakers. I also tried these on a small Sony bookshelf unit and have now switched back to the original speakers. That focused soundstage makes it seem as if the artist is playing in the room which is great unless it’s in the bedroom when I’m trying to go to sleep. Probably not a fair analysis since the original speakers seem to spread the sound good enough to begin with. I’ve read a lot about Klipsch since Best Buy started carrying them and wanted to know what the hype was about. If your receiver gives you an option to reduce the bass on these and compensate with a subwoofer I think that's where these will perform best. I got them on a Black Friday special and will definitely be keeping them. Four stars because the bass sensitivity and the soundstage may not be for everyone.

I purchased these speakers during the Black Friday sale for $124.99, and I couldn't be happier. Firstly, the build quality is excellent-- each speaker feels very solid, and the brushed veneer looks great. They're actually fairly compact, too, and weren't obtrusive even in a medium-sized dorm room. As far as the sound is concerned, these are very bright, detailed speakers that produce clear mids and highs, with tight, punchy bass. As other users have noted, they can be somewhat harsh sounding initially, but after a little time to break in, they warm up nicely and are not fatiguing to listen to. These are also very efficient speakers, capable of eardrum-shattering sound without needing to crank your receiver up. These shine playing both music and movies, and can get surprisingly loud with zero distortion. The stereo imaging during Jurassic World's action scenes was superb, and they were able to create truly immersive movie experiences in a smaller ~200 sq. ft bedroom. They handle rock, hip-hop, classical, and jazz with ease, though I still recommend adding a subwoofer to your setup as these emphasize punchier midbass over deeper bass tones. Altogether, I'm very pleased with this purchase, and I would recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of high-quality bookshelf speakers. I'm currently using these in a 6.1 setup with an older Onkyo home theater system, and plan on eventually upgrading the rest of the system to the Reference series as money permits.

I decided to upgrade my current Polk Audio system because it seemed like my 12” sub was losing its punch after having the system for roughy five years. I decided to go with these copper woven Klipsch speakers after reading all the great reviews on the net and I’m glad I did. These speakers sound awesome and they look great to boot. I spent roughly $1300 on a 5.1 system which isn’t chump change but I knew I wanted good stuff so I had to pay for it. The floor standing speakers sound so nice that they even provide a very good amount of bass on their own. Couple them to the 10” sub and things start really shaking in my house. The center channel has me hearing voices in certain movies that I never heard with my previous Polk Audio system. All in all this is one sweet system that I know I will enjoy for several years.

I have 4 of these speakers in my bonus room that is 21*21. They are set as my rear speakers in a 7.1 system. I have a Yamaha RX-A750 receiver, with Klipsch Reference RC-62-II Center speaker, Klipsch Reference RF-62 II front speakers, Klipsch Reference R-12SW Subwoofer, and four of these Reference 5-1/4 Bookshelf Speakers on the rear. I originally had my old speakers on the rear and they were getting overpowered by a lot by the Klipsch front speakers. I could barely hear them at all. So I bought four of the 5-1/4 shelf speakers. They pair perfectly with the rest of the Klipsch speakers. I have them mounted on 30" Sanus speaker stands which really allows the sound to travel through the room. I've had friends and family over and their reaction is usually just WOW! Klipsch just so perfectly brings the treble, bass, and the mids to life. Music is just so powerful. Movies are surreal. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone wanting to round out their 5.1 or 7.1 system. Just on their own they would be very excellent speakers.
