I am upgrading from the klipsch R-15M. That's right the smaller cheaper bookshelf speakers found inside of bestbuy. These are so much more expensive, so are they worth it? Probably not. Am I happy? Yes!! The smaller R-15M are such a good deal when they are on sale. They sound great and would start with those again. RP-160M speakers are fantastic. The cherry color reminds me of old style speakers. The grills are magnetic which make it so easy to take on and off. These produce so much bass that when I ran my audio set up, my onkyo recived actually turned off my sub from the settings! I turned the sub back on and manually adjusted the low cross over frequency. These things are big! And they sound big. I was nervous my wife would make me return them. But she loved them too. She didn't care for my smaller speakers. But these look so much better so I got the go ahead. Lastly, Best Buy does not have these anywhere in store. It took almost 2 weeks to be delivered. That's ridiculous. There are other online options that will get it to my home much faster. I only bought from Best Buy because I had some store credit.

I have to admit that I have been a Klipsch fan for quite a while. However, that does not mean that I love everything they put out and defend the brand vigorously. They have had some flops in my opinion and I have been weary of some of their products for a while. I needed to upgrade my front three speakers (LCR) and always look at the latest Klipsch products due to their efficiency. I do not have a lot of real estate to add amps to push power hungry towers, but I do want my system to sound full and powerful. Reading through reviews the Reference Premiere caught my attention for all of the positive remarks and in particular the focus on the updated horn, that was more laid back instead of "bright". I was not able to demo the speakers, but with the sale price and the 14 day return policy, it was too enticing to pass up. I played the RP-160's while switching back and forth from the Klipsch KSB 3.1 bookshelves that I had. It was immediately obvious that the RP's were in a different class. The sound stage was much more open and the highs were more articulate but not piercing and the horn work that Klipsch has put in was pleasant and welcomed. My entire focus before I received the 160's was on the new horn, but the bottom end frequency that these little guys put out was actually more impressive. To listen to music you do not need a sub except for music below the 40hz area. Even at that these produce great bass for the size. I have them on 24" Dayton speaker stands and have them about a foot from the back wall and the sound is wonderful. I have this matched with the RP-440C and an HSU VTF3-MK2 crossed over at 80hz. Exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommended!
