Not a genius, but a pretty smart lock
||Posted .I like that the bolt doesn't scream "smart lock, fancy stuff inside". I like that it was easy to install, easy to set up and easiest of all to use. I wish I had the ability to open the door at will remotely, incase I need to let someone in with a flip phone. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the kevo lock, and for what I need it to do.

I love this
Posted .Whole family loves this. Kids use fobs in backpack to gain entry. Wife & I use iPhones. Send electronic keys to houseguests, and we get a notification when they arrive. I send them an instant text to welcome them to our home, seems a little creepy, then they realize I got info from Kevo lock, and they think it's even cooler. Experienced Nothing but great stuff from this. installed in the freezing cold. simple: 10 minutes. 4 screws. couldn't imagine the install would be hard for anyone unless they had an improperly installed deadbolt prior. Nothing but praises. Will update if anything goes wrong. company sent 5 additional free ekeys when I set-up lock. very cool Kwikset.

Great lock!
||Posted .Love the ease of use with this lock. Simple installation. The only thing I would change is to have WIFI compatibility and Bluetooth. It would be nice to unlock or lock from anywhere.

Easy to install
||Posted .My kids kept forgetting their keys, but they ever seem to forget their phones. The Kevo lock was the perfect solution!

Fit my needs the best
||Posted .I did a lot of online reviewing, just as always...and like you are doing now. I have a home automation hub and looked at what the hubs offer...then found Kevo. I looked at Schlage, August and other options. It's all came down to: 1. Ease of allowing access to others (key code, e-key, etc) 2. Aesthetics of the device (August is HUGE!) 3. Locking/ unlocking ability remotely (Kevo Plus is a big plus) 4. Ease of locking/ unlocking (this one is a simple touch on the outside cover with the key fob or Bluetooth device close enough) The search was on and I learned a lot that I liked and disliked about this and the others. I liked the size of Kevo after the install. The August was a HUGE add-on on the existing deadbolt assembly. The Schlage all had keypads on the outside and some fancy design to choose from. The Kevo...looked just like my existing Kwikset deadbolt on the outside and no keypad to add additional users or have to delete them later. With the Kevo I can send unlimited e-keys to my wife, my tablet, any future maintenance workers, etc... I can also rescind the keys just as quickly as I send them, or even limit access times. I can also get alerts when family members lock or unlock the door, so I know when the kids make it safely (I have security cameras too). I added the Kevo Plus device which was about half the price I paid for the lock, but easily connects to your router and sets up in minutes. Once installed, you can lock/ unlock the door anywhere you have Internet access. Never worry halfway to work again, "Did I lock the door?" Now, what I dislike: Installation was not as clear and easy as it seems. There was a programming portion after the lock is installed to learn left/ right swing doors. The lock grinds and sounds defective, but it's just learning. Just disliked this portion slightly. The biggest issue I have is...you never realize how many times you actually touch the door lock when the door is open. What I mean is that the "easy to lock by a simple touch" becomes annoying when you are walking outside, grabbing the door handle to close it behind you and you accidentally bumped against the lock housing, causing it to lock before you close the door. Minor issue, but I lock it when it is open almost as much as I do when it is closed. Ha! Overall a huge recommend. I like the looks, the upgrade ability, the ease of use and secure feeling of being able to lock the door from literally anywhere.

Pretty good, but could use some improvements
||Posted .I purchased two of these and, overall, like them. The design is good as is the fit and finish. I like that Kwikset decided to include their "smartkey" technology in these so that you can easily re-key the lock to match other locks or simply change the physical key. As far as the bluetooth, I like that these work with iOS or Android as well as the proprietary bluetooth fob. Functionally, the lock works as expected and I have no qualms recommending it to someone. However, there are a few complaints... 1) The lock takes a few seconds to open and doesn't always recognize my phone (iPhone). This is a minor annoyance, however, and doesn't always happen. 2) Installation was pretty straightforward, but the lock is extremely sensitive to a door that's not properly aligned. Even if your present deadbolt operates with ease and even if you can manually lock/unlock this lock without issue, the motor won't tolerate even minor friction. Installation in one door went fine, but in the other one, I simply couldn't get it to work properly and ended up replacing the entire door (frame and all) as I simply couldn't get it to align properly. 3) Kwikset claims this will "automatically" calibrate so that it won't lock if the fob or other bluetooth device is on the inside of the door (I.E., hanging on a keyhook or sitting on a counter). However, I've noticed that the lock will occasionally unlock when my iPhone is within range inside the house. It has to be fairly close, but from a security perspective, it's a concern nonetheless. 4) Electronic keys cost $1.99 each. That's a bit annoying as the lock includes only 1 fob and 2 electronic keys. Once purchased, they're permanent, but given the cost of the lock, they should include additional electronic keys. Finally, a nice feature would be adding wifi to the lock in addition to bluetooth so it can be operated and/or checked remotely. Personally, I'd be willing to sacrifice battery life for that feature. Overall, this is a good lock for someone looking at home automation or just the ease or "coolness" factor.

Good, convenient lock
||Posted .I originally started my keyless entry journey with a 10 button lock. I'm glad I upgraded to a Kevo. The Kevo works great with iPhone 5S/5 and there are virtually no problems. It unlocks within 2-3 seconds and saves me from pulling out my keys. Sometimes it can take a little longer, but generally gets it right 90% of the time. On the other hand, I have multiple problems locking/unlocking the door with the iPhone 5C. If I get it to lock/unlock on the first try, I feel lucky. Usually it takes 2-4 tries at 5-7 seconds between each try. Now that Kevo lets you have 7 eKeys, this works great for sending to family and friends, and then revoking once they no longer need access. The SmartKey option is great. I had problems getting it to change to my previous key. At one point, neither key worked. If you do a search on how to re-key a smart key, you can get back in business without having to go to a locksmith. There are a few things that would be nice to add to the feature set, such as restricting access to certain hours of the day, or allowing for remote unlock, but it's got a pretty solid set of features as is, and is firmware update-able. I'll definitely be buying another one in the future, but maybe when there is a price drop or a sale happens.

Works great almost perfect
||Posted .Installation was smooth a little disappointed that it's not supported with my moto x phone for direct pairing but really only a small amount of android are supported like samsung only but was able to get it on mine by sending an ekey from my wife's samsung phone. It's 1 one of the few smartlocks on the market that are near impossible to hack. it would be nice if they allowed more than 3 e keys but also comes with a fob and more are available I do plan to get the kevo plus as well that will allow remote access but so far that's only available online if it were a bundle option or can purchase at same time I'd certainly give 5 stars. battery life seems pretty good so far and I've been using it a lot When trying to install the kevo app from Google play store it states my device is not compatible and won't install so I downloaded from the internet and side loaded the app and works fine

Q: QuestionDo you have to have the app running on your smart phone in order to unlock the door?Do you have to have the app running on your phone every time you open the door, or can you have it in your pocket?
Asked by Jay.
- A:Answer The app has to be open but can be running in the background. I just leave my phone in my pocket. If you do double tap the home key and close the app a notification from the Kevo appears telling you to reopen the app in order to unlock the door. Let it run in the background Super easy to use!
