5Best All Around Value!
PostedSteeler1979To begin this review I want to state that ever laptop manufacturer rather HP, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Asus, and even Apple will always have a few lemons and at times it can be frustrating when things do not work out. I have tried several laptops over the years tablets and they all have their pros and cons. Around the holiday season I decided to get a new laptop but I wanted a hybrid. So I decided to try the Surface 3 (Atom based CPU, 4 gig ram, 128 gig hardrive) and it was nice, premium, great build, solid battery life, great 1080p screen, ports, etc, and better than the Macbook. I do a lot of video editing, and between the the under powered processor, and smaller screen, it did not meet my needs. I paid around 640 for the Surface 3 with keyboard and overall it was a good experience. It just that it wasn't meant for heavy usage programs, and it stuttered at times editing 1080p video. I took the Surface 3 back and got a Dell Inspirion 15 5000 series with the newest Skylake core I5 6200U, 6 gig ram, 1 terabyte hardrive, touchscreen, and back lit keyboard. The Dell was made out of plastic, had an un-smooth feeling touchscreen, buggy and slow. I thought it be fast with the new Skylake I5 but my older HP core I3 5010U was much faster. Unfortunately when a new chipset comes out it takes a while to work out the bugs and their are currently issues with Skylake chips being worked out. The screen on the Dell was 768P and not that great as well. So I went back to Surface 3 because of the size and at least the screen was 1080p. Then I came swapped it out again because of the same reasons why I went to the Dell. The Lenovo is great! I read some comments below about the issues with the bubble on the screen, and wifi. Mine did the same thing but I allowed the laptop to install nearly 2 hours of updates and all of the issues were gone including touch screen, wifi, and the bubble on the screen issues were gone. You wont be able to find a 1080p screen, core I3, 8 gig ram, Back lit keyboard, 300 degree rotating screen, all Aluminum, touchsreen laptop anywhere for 399! Speakers sound very nice although a little more base would be nice. The battery life is a little above average at around 6 hours of light use, 4:30 moderate use, and 3:21 with heavy use. Keyboard and mouse pad are very solid. Touch screen is nice, smooth, and the screen has a nice smooth feel to it. So if you want a a low quality 760p screen, 4 gig ram, Celeron processor to save money and have less complaints go ahead. But I am having no issues with this laptop at all. Speed wise the 500 gig hardrive performs as fast as the EMC drive on the Atom Surface 3. EMC is technically faster than a spinning hard drive. The 8 gig of ram is great for multitasking and the core I3 5020U performs great. You wont be able to tell the difference between a core I3 or I5 in performance so don't let the Best Buy guys fool you. Stay away from Atoms, Celerons, or Pentiums if you can. Go Core I3 or Up...Shop around, and read reviews before you buy anything and above all remember you get the quality you pay for, and every laptop no matter the brand might have a lemon here and there....even Apple has some from time to time. This Laptop is the best deal on Bestbuy!!!

4Great Bang For The Buck

I won't list any of the features because many reviewers have done it already. I purchased this laptop during the Best Buy deal of the day. You can't beat the price for what you get. It looks and feels like a laptop twice the price. So Lenovo did a good job here packing in a ton of features for a low out the door price. In the past many have accused Lenovo of bloatware and I can tell you it's not too bad and whatever you don't need you can uninstall. They even provided a users manual for both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 in case you want to do some reading and familiarize yourself with the product. Some of the software bundled is actually useless while McAfee's AV is a 1 month trial. Performance wise, this thing flies with Windows 10 even with 80+ processes running in the background as you would expect with 8GB of Ram. The keyboard feels good as the keys have a nice springy feel to them and they are quiet while typing. The FHD screen looks good and the touchscreen is responsive. One thing to pass along. There have been many comments about WiFi dropping, or not coming back on after sleep mode or the laptop shutting down for no apparent reason. So i'll pass on the following tip because this is all software and device driver related: Go into device manager and look at each device and in the profile look for the "Power Management Tab" and UNCHECK any box that says this device can turn off the computer to save power. There were several and i'm happy to report that sleep mode works great, WiFi no longer drops and is running when I wake up the laptop and the laptop no longer shuts down on it's own.

5Excellent laptop for the money
PostedrealreviewsElite Member
Really solid laptop, the whole casing is aluminum and not cheap plastic so it's very durable. The thing I really like about this one is the bottom panel comes off and you have easy access to everything including hard drive, memory, wireless card, cmos battery and others, very easy to upgrade stuff. I through a solid state drive in it right off the bat and it starts up in around 10 seconds, I can't go without a solid state anymore. Backlit keyboard is really nice, can't go without that anymore. Can't beat the price, it's a really solid laptop for the price. Has a touchscreen, it folds into stand mode which would be nice for like watching movies, videos, or playing games. Has no DVD drive but you can get a cheap usb dvd drive for like $20. Full HD screen which really surprised me at this price. Only thing that bugs me because i'm an IT guy is lack of indicators, no hard drive light, no light letting you know it's fully charged, only lights up when it's on and when it's plugged in, not very intuitive there, but that's nitpicking. Runs extremely cool thanks to the 5th generation Intel processor, as well as me switching out for a solid state. Average battery life for me is between 4-5 hours depending on the load. Touchpad is okay, functional, but it's one solid button instead of having separate buttons for the left and right clicking. Another thing that amazes me at this price point is the fact that it has dual band AC wireless in it. Speakers get very loud and are better than others that I've seen. Overall really great laptop for the price, $449 still a good deal, if you can get it on sale for less than it's a steal.

4Great features, quality lacking a bit
PosteddigitalyfeThe features on this laptop are really fantastic. As everyone mentioned, the screen is amazing. It's fast and quiet.I won't go into the pros much because it looks like others reviewers already listed them all here. I want to mention a few negatives about it though. First, I had to return it for an exchange the day after purchase. It seems the display backlight died, so you couldn't see anything on it (you could barely make out the outlines of stuff if you tilted the screen a certain way.) The exchange process at BestBuy was great, I just gave them the old one, picked up the new one, they gave me a new receipt, and the whole thing took only like 5 or 10 min. I've had the second one for a day now, so another thing I've noticed that both, the first one I had and this one, is (I think this happens after sleep) the wifi dies after you first use it for anything (like going to a site.) It comes back after about 30 seconds to a minute, and then it seems to work fine the rest of the time until you put it to sleep and later wake it again. I'll have to do more testing on this, but this seems to be a consistent pattern for now. Maybe the drivers need to be updated. And thirdly, while the sound is fine, it's nothing to write home about. It's loud enough when the room isn't noisy, and it doesn't sound bad or anything. And really, the sound on most laptops isn't that great. So hopefully the screen doesn't die again and the wifi issues are resolved. Other than that I'm very happy with this laptop.

Overall I am very satisfied with this product. Despite all the negative reviews, I bought it to replace my old laptop that drove me nuts with noise and heat coming from the vent. This one is what I need – cool and quiet. The performance is good – I don’t feel any difference compared to my old laptop with an i5 CPU. I like its full HD IPS screen – it’s very sharp and bright; it also provides more workspace, although it requires a shorter distance to the eyes than a regular 1366x768. It’s touch-screen enabled, but this feature is rarely used. It has some software and hardware issues, but they can be addressed. First of all, the HDD can and must be replaced with an SSD to fully enjoy the potential of this (and any) laptop. Its keyboard is not good for serious work – too soft; this results in many typing errors. The arrow keys blend with the rest of the keys – you can’t locate them by touch and every time need to look at the keyboard to find them (all Lenovo keyboards I’ve seen are like this), so I’m replacing it with an external keyboard – a really nice setup when the laptop is used in the stand mode. The Lenovo settings software is glitchy – it stopped working properly at some point (there are many negative feedbacks on that), but I’ve been able to make it work through changing background app settings. The wifi issues can also be addressed by turning off the power saving for the wifi adapter. Anyway, for the price (less than $400), it’s a unique combination of specs that deserves the top rating even with the described issues.

5Better than I expected, Wifi might be fixable
PostedMonkeyPawWhen I bought this, there were no reviews available, and I bought it sight unseen. Taking it out of the box, I was very impressed with the quality of the product. Yes, it's heavy, but it uses mostly metal for the shell. The screen is significantly better than I expected too. The display is great, with above average resolution and good viewing angles and color range. The other specs are good, from CPU to RAM and the like. Battery life is also very good for the price, perhaps 5-6 hours to a charge. The keyboard and trackpad could be a little better, but really, I felt I came away with a big bargain (got it for $349). As for users having the WiFi cut out, this appears to be a problem many Windows 10 users have. I went into device manager and pulled up the settings for the wireless adapter, and then disabled the setting that allows Windows to turn off the device to save power. After that, our wifi problems were gone. Maybe MS will fix this in their eternally updating Windows 10 strategy. This is a great machine, and I hope it lasts for the long haul.

4Nice specs on paper..build quality lacking
PostedidealwebMember
On paper, the specs vs price - it's a great value. The aluminum chassis gives it a nice feel to it and the hinge problems that of prior lenovo models may seem to be resolved as these are metal hinges vs the older plastic ones that were used. My biggest gripe with this laptop is the keyboard. The whole laptop is a nice sturdy aluminum build but the keys seem to be a flimsy plastic that on my first purchase of this laptop ( I took the first one back to get it exchanged for another ) the tab key made a high pitch screeching noise. I found that it was the corner of the plastic key rubbing against the aluminum chassis. It was loud enough for me to not put up with a just purchased laptop. FYI - the aluminum chassis is a finger print magnet The trackpad(mouse) could also use improvement . It wasn't as responsive as one would prefer. For what I paid ( and compared to what else I could get in the price range ) I am happy so far with my purchase. I hear Lenovo's support is horrible so hopefully it will not be needed. The unit is very easy to upgrade as I put a solid state drive in mine. One note for those who may do this.. if you need to create a bootable drive.. make sure it is "FAT32" and MBR for UEFI - otherwise the laptop won't even read it as attached in the boot menu.

4Best 2-1 Laptop for $$$ but have minor issue
PostedTimManJoseMember
Awesome laptop touchscreen & Full HD resolution. The i3 chip & 8GB RAM is fast too. The lighted keyboard is very convenient to use. The screen brightness is a little dimmer than most laptop I had in past. This brightness has to be on full blast as to my other laptop setting was just mid to 3/4 brightness. Problem with mine is that sometimes, the screen brightness would just flash bright then back down out of nowhere on it's own. I returned the 1st laptop because of this but the second one does the same thing too. I hope it's not an ongoing problem or getting worst latter on. I used lots of laptops but this is the 1st that I see this happening. Hope it's a firmware not hardware problem so it can be easily fix. Heck some of this could just be MS Windows problem causing the issues. I read some people complained that this laptop is slow but it's not the case. Heck, whenever MS Windows update on whatever computer, the computer slows down to a halt yet they keep advertising that it's only updating in the background & you can keep working. Heck NO, even this new laptop has no additional software installed but I had to waited at least 30min for the MS Windows to complete installing & reboot before I can use the laptop. MS Windows Crapola
