I got this Lenovo Idea Centre 510A-15ABR AMD A12 Series Desktop at Best Buy when it was on sale. I knew Lenovo used to be IBM, so I thought and hoped this computer would be in a long line of fine computers. I do research work for a living, so when I bought this computer, I really analyzed it. This is what I found. 1.The Lenovo Idea Centre 510A-15ABR AMD A12 Series Desktop actually looks great on the desk or table. Its look is top notch, and it lightness in weight is a plus. 2. The power supply for this computer is 185 watts, which will cause an initial reaction or worry, but there is no need to fear. The entire computer is set up to use less electricity. So far, it has chugged along with no strain on the power supply. 3. The AMD CPU runs well; few if any waits because of an overload. 4. The computer has 12 gigabytes of RAM, which is nice. Many of the top computers of Lenovo’s competitors only have 8. 5. The video/graphics card is an AMD Radeon that is integrated into the mother board. This looks bad, and I got ready to criticize it until I started running the computer through its paces. When I ran a game, a Windows Ten software use monitor showed the integrated graphics was using up to 4 gigabytes of the 12 gigabytes of RAM. That is nice. The game I play ran with beautiful crisp graphics. No problems here. 6. The keyboard that comes with this computer is top notch. It has large characters on the keys to help those who don’t see too well. The mouse is functional too. 7. The computer comes with Windows 10 installed. I consider that a plus. 8. The computer has four 3.0 USB ports and two 2.0 USB ports. I would that it had two more 2.0 USB ports on it in the back. Two of these would be for the keyboard and mouse, and one for hooking up a set of speakers that plug into a 2.0 bus port for power. 9. The mother board on this computer has nothing available for expansion internally other than a PCI slot or two. Any additional drives will most likely have to be external and able to hook up through one of the 3.0 USB ports. 10. The hard drive in this computer is a Western Digital. That is always a plus. I gave this computer a FIVE STARS because for most, it will be more than enough for them. I consider its many features outweigh any shortcomings it may have.

My HP went belly up, but not a surprise since it is 6 years old. I have had Lenovo products and always satisfied. I have only had this a few weeks, but it is fast and reliable. However, be ready to spend hours on setup. Because of Lenovo and Windows, I spend a lot of time just letting it download and run updates, but at least I did not have to babysit it the whole time. Be aware there is a HDMI output but not a DVI output. I mention this because I am using a TV / Monitor with a HDMI input, and then I could not hear my external speakers. I went into settings, and was able to reroute the sound through my Bose speakers instead. USB outputs is minimal, so plan accordingly, or buy a switch. I am using 2 USB ports on the back for keyboard and mouse, so not many left to plug in a backup drive. I use a headset for Dragon and Skype, and the inputs were not convenient here either. But the AMD processor is great, lots of RAM, and TB drive gives lots of room for storage. You can't beat the price for all this.

I use this desktop for research, writing, and light gaming (think basic Steam games), and so far I am very happy with it. The desktop powers up quickly thanks to the SSD (we're talking 5-10 seconds)--something I was already used to thanks to my Lenovo laptop. The unit stays pretty cool, even when streaming movies or watching Netflix (it did warm up considerably when playing a couple of Steam games--psychonauts and the like, but even so it was able to handle the graphics and all pretty well). The sleek design and the numerous USB ports are in good places particularly for the wireless keyboard/mouse. It also functions well running multiple programs at once: internet with multiple tabs, word processor, and whatever else I happen to need. Very satisfied with my purchase!

Hard Drive has failed numerous times

      Posted
      Disappointed

This computer was bought in December, and by mid December the hard drive was no longer turning on. We took it back to Best Buy, Geek Squad replaced it, we brought it back in February and it wouldn't turn on. Eventually Best Buy sent it back to Geek Squad for another hard drive and motherboard. We brought it back this week, would not turn on. Brought it back to Best Buy, they would not replace the lemon, so the sent it back to Geek Squad for what will be the 4th hard drive on a computer that has been used for a total of 20 minutes. I have never had so many issues with a computer, or such difficulties with trying to return a product that does not work. TL;DR: Geek Squad has had computer longer than I have it is not fixed after 3 months.

I shopped for the perfect desktop for months, I could not make up my mind. Finally, after much debate I bought this Lenovo desktop. I've never purchased this brand and was hesitant but I am so glad I went with it. This is a super speedy little devil. It was incredibly easy to set-up and I love it. My only complaint is that there are only 2-USB's on the back of the computer. I always hook up a 2nd monitor, then the keyboard . .didn't leave much room for other devices. I had to start hooking up peripherals on the front, which means I have to hang the door open. Not a problem, it just doesn't look as sleek with it hanging open. BUT, it is gorgeous and I LOVE how fast it operates. I purchased a Mac 2 years ago, and this thing blows it out of the water. I'm sold.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaCentre 510A desktop. If you need more USB ports on the back of the device, you may want to consider using a USB hub in the back to expand USB connectivity. lenovo

      Not happy

After setting up this desktop, I noticed that with each reboot the clock reset 12 hours and 2 minutes fast. Had to go into the BIOS to set the clock. Not sure what will happen when DST occurs - will I need to go back into the BIOS? Initially had trouble pinning apps to the Start menu - finally got this to work (at least most of the time - occasionally it still reverts back to a previous configuration when rebooting). Then, I noticed that the system hangs frequently at random times - some days worse than others. Finally got tired of this and researched what might be the cause. Swapped out my mouse & disabled all my Chrome extensions, just in case either if these were the cause - NOPE. Found & cleaned up some event errors, so now we will see if that eliminates the freezes. If not, this thing is going back to Best Buy. Works great when it is not hanging/freezing, but absolutely no one should have this much trouble with a brand new PC. Very unhappy - worst experience ever.

This sounds like conflicting software loaded or an error with the initial setup of Windows 10. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. lenovo

I bought this tower to replace a 5/6 year old Asus tower that was starting to have issues. I am not a gamer so I don't need high end specs. This unit upgraded all the basic aspects I had in my Asus from AMD A10 to AMD A12, 8gigs ram to 12 gigs ram, 500gig hd to 1tb had. This system has Win 10 where I had upgraded the Asus to Win10 from Win7(believe that may have been where some of the problems were happening on the Asus). Now that all the Win10 updates have finished everything runs normally and smoothly. I had an issue where I had to restart the system multiple times to get everything up to date which was aggravating but that's operating systems issues not hardware issues. Got the tower on sale for $399 and am very happy with the purchase, would definitely recommend for any non gamer.

This desktop was purchased to replace a 7 year old HP computer which was getting flaky even after installation of Windows 10. It was easy to set up but you should be aware that in installing your old software, you should check for current drivers. Didn't like the vertical door on the front for aesthetic reasons - the USB ports should all have been on the back of the computer. Also had to buy a new monitor because this computer would not create a proper full screen display on my 7 year old LED monitor even with scaling and resolution adjustments. There was an overlap variously to the sides, top and bottom of the screen. Overall, I like it.
