Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:Design, Price, SizeLet me preface this review by stating that you are buying a sub $300 computer. I purchased this for the night class that I am taking and I wanted something lightweight and portable that could handle word documents and some web browsing. The initial setup took me about 30 minutes to start using the machine. The first thing I did once setup was complete was to uninstall McAfee and some of the other preinstalled software from the machine. Note: windows antivirus is already installed and takes up less resources than McAfee. Next was the painful part, I ran windows updates which took over an hour. Now to the actual machine, I have been very surprised by the responsiveness and speed of this machine. I am not sure what people expect when you purchase a laptop that is a third of the price of their phone but for the money I feel this laptop offers good value. The size is great, the weight is low, and the overall design is good. There is limited memory 64gb so you might want to get a flash drive or an sd card to save your files. If you plan on doing more than web browsing and word documents I would recommend you spend more money and get a higher end machine.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use2 out of 5Day one started with Windows S version and no internet . It ran ok , until I started the Lenovo Vantage software to prep for the internet .Then it hit the cpu to 100% after restart Nothing opened, ouch that hurt . Tried to uninstall the it 3 times before I realized you have to go thru the start menu vantage ,more arrow , then terminate , then scroll down to uninstall. There are 3 Lenovo apps . It ran great the CPU loved being in the 45% - 65% with nothing running .. Launched windows update. Got NET frameworks plugs 4 and 5 after 2hours she rebooted to a cool 68%-77% cpu crunch ,but ran ok ..I loaded Mcfee Windows S version .. the Cpu was grabbelling at 85%-95% nothing launched idle mode ...started YouTube and it hurt at 480p view ,cpu hit 100% ....so I deleted mcfee wSVr . Went ahead and used the free windows 10 Home version upgrade .. loaded mcfee windows 10 Home version ..loaded my current. Office 365 personnel .. it crashed ....then after 9 hours of task manager tweaks it ran at 90%with Word open in blank page ...Task manager said it was Mcfee ripping apart the cpu and memory ... so I removed Mcfee win 10 h... it took 3 hours to remove Mcfee .....installed WEBROOT ANTI VIRUS INTERNET SECURITY COMPLETE after a 3 hour inSTALL ....THEN USED THE OPTIMIZE TOOL IN WEBROOT...the cpu runs at58%—70%ish With MW WORD AND windows Edge tab running ...Added WEBROOT web threat shield and GHOSTRLY EXTENTIONS and the browser went smooth ...strong build ,light weight ..use an online storage room or 3.0 thumb drive for docs, pics ..

Quality3 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use2 out of 5Firstly I'll say this isn't the laptop for majority of people. Taking it off S mode in Windows 10, this thing pegged at 100% cpu usage the entire time, which is usually an issue with drivers. I updated it to the latest version of W10, the November edition, installed the Radeon software to update it, the updates took well over two hours, and still had the CPU issues. HOWEVER, I've personally wiped Windows from it entirely, installed Lubuntu, and this laptop for $129 is fantastic. Speakers aren't good, it'll struggle to even play some 720p youtube videos, but if you know what you're doing, this is a fairly capable machine. As it stands though, this machine should ONLY be used in S mode, and just for office applications, and some web browsing. It will struggle to stream video unless you're at 480p, and it doesn't have the horsepower to do much, and a full windows installation will be using around 50-75% of your resources just at idle, running windows. If you're willing to toy around with other operating systems, this is a great value, and the keyboard is surprisingly amazing for a 14".

Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5Could have been great, if not the slow performance, which I can't figure out why ,if it's the processor that can boost the clock to over 2Ghz which is enough to run everything or the video card that only has 80MB of memory which is nothing. 4Gb RAM is sufficient. I tweaked it the best I can, but still Google chrome take 5-10 seconds to load, videos run ok at 480p, but once loaded at 720p slows down. Other than that great build quality, nice screen, nice keyboard, nice sturdy body, AC Wi-Fi that runs the full speed of my connection. If you just run Word and Excel, it will work, and if you don't mind waiting for the apps to load then the $130 is great deal. And keep in mind that you need to exit Windows S mode to be able to install apps not from the store, Chrome, Firefox etc.

Posted .The Lenovo IdeaPad 1-14 will boot from off to the Windows 10 desktop in less than 20-seconds. If you are getting slower than expected performance, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.

Quality3 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Let me start off by I had low expectations on this laptop. I was only planning to use it for paying bills online and keeping track of my finances via Excel. PROS: -Gets the job done as expected -Keyboard is perfect (typing on Lenovo's are always amazing) -Windows S is perfect for doing what I was planning to do while staying protected. Keep this in Windows S mode for sure. -Kind of heavy CONS: -There are some delays sometimes when I try to type something on the search bar, the run bar on the bottom left, etc. This led me to be frustrated because for example I had to check to make sure the address I typed in the web browser was correct before I hit enter. -There is some back light bleed on the bottom Overall, it's not a bad laptop. It will get the work done but just make sure to not have too many windows open. I think it has something to do with the AMD Processor though; I've heard that the Intel Celeron 11.6 model doesn't have much of the delay issue. If you just want to browse the web and input numbers on excel, then it should be fine; just be warned that there is an occasional lag delay on input and it drives me nuts that I have to return it. Really wanted to keep it but yuck. I even uninstalled McAfee (don't really need it with Windows S) but the occasional delay input lag is still there.

Q: QuestionWhat is the chance that the ideapad 1 will support running linux? I did not find driver downloads on the manufacturer site for linux installs
Asked by DF
- A:Answer I purchased two Dells with the same processor (9220e) two months ago and installed openSUSE 15.1 on them. They work great for the computer classes I teach in the mtns of Central America. The Dells only had 32 GB SSDs, but that is plenty of space for Linux and multiple students. You might want to put /var and /tmp in RAM. For what I do, they fly. I didn't have any problem with drivers, but I haven't used the sound or camera.

Q: QuestionIs the laptop considered a chromebook?
Asked by cryspittn
- A:Answer NotAnExpert. If it's a Windows 10 operating system computer (it is) then you would have to replace the operating system with Google Chrome to get it to be like a Chromebook. Chromebooks are Chromebooks because they have Google Chrome as their operating system, which makes it faster loading but not as versatile (can't run Microsoft Office).

Q: QuestionIs this Windows in S mode, or Windows Home? If Windows in S mode, can it be upgraded? Can regular Window Office be installed (not cloud based)?
Asked by neilk
- A:Answer This model of the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14-inch laptop ships with Windows 10 Home 64-bit Operating System. There is a 30-day trial of Microsoft Office 365 included as part of the Windows 10 operating system. In order to keep the program active after the trial period, you will need to purchase a product key. You will not need to download any additional software. You can purchase either the subscription Microsoft Office 365 25-digit Product Key or choose the one-time charge version of the Microsoft Office Program 25-digit Product Key. It is your choice.
