Decent , basic use laptop for a reasonable price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently enrolled into school and only had a few hundred to spare for a laptop so that I could do my online courses. This laptop saved my life. It’s not fancy with all the bells and whistles but it gets the job done. Good purchase if you just need to browse the web or complete homework. It’s not the fastest but it’ll do until I can afford something better.

Wipe this and install KDE Neon (Linux).
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop on Black Friday for approximately $120. I would not pay anymore for this machine. This A6-9220e chip is extremely limited. I have successfully wiped this machine and installed Linux. Linux Mint XFCE and Linux Mint Mate don't have proper graphics drivers for this machine. KDE Neon worked extremely well and made this into a totally new machine. I enjoyed using it in the Linux environment. Remember to go into the Bios and change the boot order to USB first. Don't install Linux until you first bootup a live boot using the thumb drive to make sure the graphic drivers work. This is a horrible Windows 10 machine. If that is what you want it for, spend some extra money and get a chromebook or just something with a better processor and RAM, both of which I own from the same manufacturer and are good for what they are. The Windows RAM usage was using 2.72GB of 3.83GB without a single program open. You are not doing much of anything with this chip and about a 1GB of ram. You are going to have to get a thumbdrive and install Linux. I tried a bunch and KDE Neon, which I had never used before was the clear match for this machine. I was able to run some windows programs in WINE. I put the folder with the windows program in the C drive folder in the WINE folder once WINE was installed (search wine in your file directory). KDE Neon in the same starting position had 1.95 of 3.67 GB without a program open. This allowed a full gigabyte of RAM, which makes all the difference, especially when using Chrome or Firefox. It is an entry level machine. However, using KDE Neon you can run KODI with no problem. It actually runs Retro Game emulation under retroarch and I have used a dualshock 4 paired with bluetooth. It ran most stuff, though your PSP level emulation will stutter and require frameskip but will work (Set to 2 for me on the ROM I tested). As a Windows machine, I would give this a 1. As a Linux Machine, this gets a 4. It works, it is no speed demon but will do most cloud based tasks one task at a time. This is not a multitasking machine. Internal SD storage is also helpful as is the HDMI port. The Display is ok when you are at the viewing angle that works and pretty crappy otherwise. Running KDE Neon it isn't bad at all. Battery life is not horrible for an entry level machine. Once Linux KDE Neon was installed and I got all my stuff going, I hate to admit that I rather enjoyed playing with this machine. That is easy to say cause I have more powerful MACs Windows machines and chromebooks. At $120 if you are willing to wipe it, this is a great travel laptop/chromebook alternative with a nice sized screen.

Love the ease of this computer.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is easy to set up and use. I bought this particular computer because it came with a year of free Microsoft S service. It does block certain pop-ups to make sure you aren't getting malware on your laptop. It is simple and easy to figure out.

Is it You're Laptop or You're Wi-Fi?
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just learned this model was a 2020 Black Friday deal for $119 at B.B.(really hoping that was fake news). In order to figure out if the delay was from the laptop and not my wifi in my apartment, I ran a speed test and found out my wifi speed is well over 1.2 megabits per second. The lag on this model is unbearable. Unfortunately, I have to return it. The next laptop will have at least 8GB; hopefully, that will speed the problem up and keep me from having to return it. If I'm able to, I will edit this review with a follow-up from the next purchase and compare the two.

Never Buy this PC
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC is a piece if crap, extremely slow, i guess it running browers search via Microsoft, you can't even go directly to a web page, Also PC is hackable, zero security whatsoever, why on earth will any company spend their time and energy they did in manufacturing this piece of crap with only 4GB un-upgradable RAM?. Unfortunately i cant return this PC because its out of returnable days so i'm literarily stuck with it, but i'm trowing it in my garbage can right now. Again Never buy this PC!!!!, not even for your 5 years old. I would suggest BestBuy remove this rubbish PC from its Inventory, its definitely a Lemon sale.

You do not need to use McAfee. You can uninstall McAfee and then install any 3rd party virus protection software you choose. You may need to switch out of S-Mode depending on the virus protection you choose. There are better alternatives for your money
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do not like this laptop at all. The biggest issue is that it is SLOW. Right out of the box and for the first few months it would take 5 to 10 minutes to start up. It would load up webpages or open applications in a reasonable amount of time… Usually in about 30 seconds to one minute. After a few months, everything I do on this is frustratingly slow. Opening webpages, opening applications, editing a simple word document, resending an email can take the laptop anywhere from a couple minutes to 10 or 15 minutes. I use it mostly for email, some light Microsoft office, and email. So nothing that should be CPU or graphics intensive. What prompted me to write this review, however, is that the laptops display is malfunctioning. At first it would start to randomly dim but now it’s permanently dimmed and it is getting dimmer and dimmer. I had to borrow a friends monitor so I could see what I am working on. So not sure if that suggests it’s the graphic card or built in display. I still have about three months on my warranty so I will see how good Lenovo is supporting their products. I will try to remember to update this review if I can with the results of requesting warranty work. In the meantime I would advise looking at a HP laptops. In the months since I made my purchase, I advised a number of friends to go with the Hewlett-Packard’s instead and for the same specifications, the HP laptops are ridiculously faster.

Q: QuestionWhat is the chance that the ideapad 1 will support running linux? I did not find driver downloads on the manufacturer site for linux installs
Asked by DF.
- A:Answer I purchased two Dells with the same processor (9220e) two months ago and installed openSUSE 15.1 on them. They work great for the computer classes I teach in the mtns of Central America. The Dells only had 32 GB SSDs, but that is plenty of space for Linux and multiple students. You might want to put /var and /tmp in RAM. For what I do, they fly. I didn't have any problem with drivers, but I haven't used the sound or camera.
