Worth the price, no problems so far.
Posted .So, I bought this for school and so far it has lived up to my expectations. This is definitely a basic machine, and there's no reason to hold it to the same standard as larger more powerful laptops. Small laptop, small battery, and that's not a huge issue. I got 2 hours, 30 minutes straight out of the box, even running Internet, installing and uninstalling programs, and editing what settings I needed to. I don't know what the complaint was with updating windows, it took maybe 30 mins-1 hr for me. I also don't feel the same cheap quality that seems to be a bother, but the keyboard does bend slightly in the middle when pressed. I don't feel it is an issue, however, because I've mastered the art of delicate typing.... My biggest issue is the touchpad. I can't figure out how to turn off the preset gestures, its not under the mouse settings, nor the pen and touch settings from what I've seen. It's not the biggest problem for me, as I use my Wacom Intuos Pro (Touch) to navigate, but if I didn't have that I'd be beyond annoyed at this point, especially when I need to navigate a lot. Windows 8 appears to have a mess of issues with my wacom driver, however. I installed it yesterday, and it worked fine. Today it's saying there is a driver error. This happened on my previous Samsung laptop. The biggest plus is at this price, I am able to afford geek squad, which I was unable to do after purchasing my Samsung. The Samsung lasted 3 months when it was accidentally knocked to the carpet, now, it doesn't even run or start up, and the screen is trashed. I have no intention of letting this happen with this laptop, but if it does ill be sure to post an update on how it held up. For those worried about the speed, it is by no means a slow computer if you're using it correctly. I can run Paint Tool Sai and two Internet browsers just fine. Over the course of the next few weeks I will be testing photoshop and sims 3 on it. I haven't tried putting games on this yet. The only issue I've seen with specs for different games is the graphics card. I have no idea what Intel HD is on par with. It's a great price for this computer. I was disappointed when I couldn't purchase the toshiba I wanted, but this little computer hasn't disappointed me so far. I personally can't stand windows computers but this one has been easy for me to adjust to. I'd recommend purchasing a mouse with this. TL;DR Good computer, not super cheap feeling, sucky touchpad and battery, good for drawing, buy an external mouse, treat it nicely and you've got yourself a good deal. I'd give it 4.5 stars.

Excellent buy for a touch screen ultralite laptop
||Posted .Bought this Lenovo touch screen for my wife, replacing her dying HP. This thing is fast booting and shutting down, fast in operation, very stable. Touch screen a huge bonus for this low, low price, I am amazed at its performance.

Entry-Level Touchscreen Laptop
Posted .Got it on Black Friday for $280+tax. The very first thing I did was unscrew the bottom panel and swapped in a Samsung 840 SSD (not the 840 Pro). After a few BIOS tweaks, installing a fresh copy of Windows 8 via USB flash drive was smooth sailing. This also means no bloatware, so the system is snappy and responsive. No worries regarding the Intel Pentium processor. While downloading the 3.6GB Windows 8.1 update, the wi-fi connection never dropped, so a good sign there. I got 3 hours of battery life on the second to lowest brightness setting, but that included a mix of installing Windows updates (after the 8.1 update), installing Microsoft Office and other programs while browsing the internet and listening to music via Spotify. With the factory hard drive and light web surfing, you might be able to squeeze 3.5 hours out of it. But this number is reasonable considering that it's a small laptop with a small battery, and it takes power and resources to operate the touchscreen. Speaking of the touchscreen, since it's a small 11.6" laptop, you have to be precise with your inputs. As long as you find the right corner of your finger to use, it works great and makes Windows 8 more interactive and fun, really. There's even an onscreen keyboard that pops out for that full tablet look and functionality. I mentioned Spotify earlier. The speakers are acceptable for the size of the laptop, but the cliche with any laptop is to get yourself a decent pair of headphones/earbuds or speakers. Solid build quality; hinges feel strong and the plastic gets the job done. Overall, this is everything I expected for the price and if a larger extended life battery is out or will come out, I'd definitely buy that too.

Excellent product for the price
Posted .I'm pretty tech savvy and I've had some Intel Atom netbooks and currently have a couple of Intel Core 2 Duo laptops and a quad core desktop, and this Lenovo has comparable speeds to my Core 2 Duo machines. I kept the original configuration of 4gb of ram and 500gb hard drive. The laptop prompted me to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and 8.1 is much nicer, even includes a start button on the lower left corner now, where you would find it on Windows 7, Vista, and XP. The touchscreen is very responsive and doesn't get messy, and it's nice and bright, though I have a 2007 laptop with a brighter LED screen so I only gave it 4 bars. The speakers are pretty good quality with good sound. When I had everything installed including my instant messenger program, iTunes, and office running, I disconnected the power and it initially read 4:07 hrs remaining. I did not drain the battery so I can't say that that's how long it lasted me. Webcam quality is better than any laptop or desktop webcam I've got, picks up the craters on my face :( I want to point out something about the touch pad. At first, when I clicked on something using the touch pad, sometimes it would respond right away and sometimes it wouldn't. I've looked at other reviews and people say the slightest amount of grease on your finger can affect this. I did change the sensitivity in the control panel and there's also a place in PC Settings that allows you to change the delay in the touch pad. It's default is medium, I changed it to no delay and so far so good. My only other gripe are the two USB ports. Yes at first, it does take a while to stick a flash drive or mouse or anything USB into the ports, but then over time they seem to be easier to stick in. I purchased this machine because I'm on the go a lot and it's much lighter to carry than my 13.3" inch laptop. I think the touchscreen and Windows 8.1 are a great combo. This is not my primary computer, but if I was on a budget, this would be an excellent choice for a primary computer. This laptop is sturdy, very thin, and doesn't heat up at all. I've had it on for hours at a time, and I have yet to hear the fan blow hard. I would definitely recommend this laptop. However, if you are a hardcore gamer liked I used to be and are looking to play games such as Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead 2, Battlefield, Crysis, etc, then this is not the laptop for you. If you are looking to do extensive video editing, you might want to go with an Intel Core i5, or i7, not an Intel Pentium. Happy Holidays

The laptop is some what great overall.
Posted .I wanted a reliable computer to be able to watch my videos, fb, play runescape, ect. This fit the ticket as I do not lag at all even at max detail. Only thing I hate is windows 8 doesn't let me use chrome unless in desktop mode. The mouse pad itself is too slippery, which does get on my nerves at times. That and idk wtf is up with the battery but it dies way too early. Bought for 299 before thanksgiving was the cheapest pre black Friday touch laptop available at the time and well worth it.

Great out of the box, awesome upgraded.
Posted .I had been looking for an ultraportable to upgrade for awhile now, and when I saw this $280 unit on Best Buy I snatched it up. I have a Carbon X1 Touch for serious work like big data crunching, but I wanted something portable for financial modeling, vacations, e-mail, surfing, etc. Now I've got a seriously screaming machine. Out of the box this thing was great, but the battery life is very low as other reviewers have said. First, I swapped out the HD for a Samsung 840 EVO SSD 250GB, which Best Buy price matched to Amazon for ~$165 while I was in the store (great policy, by the way!#. I also picked up PNY 8GB DDR3 RAM #~$65 at Best Buy) and swapped that in to replace the 4GB stock RAM while I was under the hood. I then booted a clean copy of W8.1 Pro from a thumbdrive, and installed Office 2013. Long story short, this thing really moves now. Boot times beat ARM machines, and wakeup times are at worst competitive, if not better. With touch, full W8.1 and Office @ ~$510 upgraded, it fully replaces my pricey $1,700 X1 for 95% of the work/play that I do, and it's ultraportable and comfortable to use. The build quality is similar to the X1, and great for me, so I don't know what those other reviewers are talking about. I probably lost a couple tenths of a lb swapping out the HD, so it's really light, and it can handle pretty serious workloads with the 8GB of RAM. The only negative, as others have pointed out, is the battery life. I've been searching for a 6 cell or 9 cell battery to swap in. Lenovo, make it happen and keep it cheap and you'll have an A+ product; right now it's a very satisfied A :).

Great little touch screen notebook
||Posted .Purchased s210 Touch ideapad almost 1 month ago to use as a combination notebook and tablet. It's a great ultraportable laptop -- 4Gb/500Gb; 1.9GHz Pentium; touch screen -- especially for the price. The touch screen grows on U; U catch yourself reaching for the screen on normal machines and nothing happens! The s210 includes nifty keyboard shortcuts for closing applications, airplane mode, disabling the trackpad (great for writing reviews!), etc. Copying spreadsheets from a thumb drive to the hard disk is the fastest I've seen anywhere, period! It seemlessly plays DVDs on the $30 external Samsung DVD writer. Only marginal satisfaction, however, as a tablet, mainly because of caveat #1. Haven't played w/downloading Windows apps from the Store yet. Caveat #1 is a 2hr battery life!! There are claims of up to 4, even 6hrs!, but clueless as to how to get there even if U disable everything! U may wish to experiment with other options such as a supplemental battery. Caveat #2 is Windows 8.1 glitches. Little experience w/vs. 8.0 because immediately upgraded to 8.1. Win8.1 is definitely an acquired taste yet downright handy after a while, especially w/a touch screen. Note that the touch screen is inconsistently implemented especially w/older programs. Also using the touch screen seems to trigger more pop-ups. Lenovo factory-defaulted "Nitro Pro" to handle all pdf files but Nitro Pro is only a 30-day trial version. The s210 does include a Reader program that amply handles pdf files but the "en-US" user guide file is hidden in a "c:\UserGuidePDF" directory which I can't locate using the file manager -- regardless of the "View / Hidden Items" setting!?! Eventually I used "Search" and copied the file to "Documents". Also, finding the Win8.1 NotePad program is a cute little puzzle. Caveat #3 is ubiquitous pop-ups. Some ads persist in the already-small (compared to a standard-size laptop) display, actually covering up web content. This experience ranges from maddening to extremely maddening! Slowly I'm learning to uninstall and/or disable troublesome programs and/or features, giving me a little rush w/each success.

Great Value for the price.
||Posted .I normally do not review a product but after reading some of the reviews I felt I need to review this laptop. I was looking for a smaller laptop to replace my 15.6 HP which is over years old. Wanted something that was lighter and easier to handle in my RV and on a plane plus would not cost an arm and a leg, as I am retired. I was a little concerned when I read that there were some issues with the keyboard. I have not found those to be true. I have found any issues going to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7 Pro. This was my first experience with Windows 8.i and I like it. I had no problem Installing some of the programs I was using on my other Laptop. I did Install Office 365 because I use Outlook and needed Access to run with a Visual Basic program that I wrote a while ago. The only thing that stopped me from giving it 5 stars is the battery life. I find it to a little less that 3 hours. This is not a major problem for me as I run under plug in because I prefer the brighter screen. Again an excellent value for $270.00.
