      Great Refrigerator!

      • My Best Buy® Elite MemberElite Member

I read tons of reviews of various refrigerators before purchasing this one. It came down to this LG model and a similar Samsung model. We went with LG in the end because we were advised by that the LG had less ice maker issues than Samsung. I am so happy with this LG refrigerator. We have had this refrigerator for about a year and a half now. We have had no issues with the ice maker. I love how it is in the door and doesn't take up any fridge space (it takes up valuable fridge space in the Samsung models). It makes plenty of ice. Granted, it is just me and my husband, but we have had no ice shortages when we've had company over either. If you need more ice for a party, it has an ice plus feature that is great for making more ice faster, and you can store it in the bin in the freezer as a reserve. The stainless steel is beautiful, but it does smudge/show fingerprints very easily. This goes with any stainless steel though, and is not specific to just LG. If you are worried about smudges/fingerprints, check out the black stainless steel product line that just came out. It's beautiful and smudges a lot less! I was admiring it at the store the other day, and I think we will choose black stainless steel when we replace our oven/stove, microwave, and dishwasher. My complaints: The counter-depth does cause the drawers to be very small. This is my one disappointment. But again, this is with all counter-depth models, not just LG. Any brand I looked at had the same problem. The drawers are still useful though. For the most part, this refrigerator is very quiet. It stayed that way for about a year. Then, it started making a clicking sound. This ended up being a fan issue, which apparently is common to this LG model. Luckily, we had purchased the Geek Squad 5 yr protection plan and had it fixed. The protection plan was very easy to use and hassle free. My husband and I both agree it was well worth the extra $175! Overall, this fridge is great. I am so happy with it. Would definitely recommend, even with our fan issue. With all of my research on fridges prior to purchasing, it seems that any fridge breaks easily these days (sadly). The only thing I would do differently: buy it in the black stainless steel ... so pretty and no fingerprints!

I will be short and brief. Bought this unit brand new while doing a complete kitchen remodel in February 2017. Down to the studs, new sheet rock, cabinets, granite countertops, under cabinet lighting. My wife and I figured if we've gone this far, $2,300 for a refrigerator seems like a lot of money but in the grand scheme of the project, it is what it is. The refrigerator is just over two years old at the time of this post. Two phone calls later to LG, a $125.00 prepaid non-refundable service call fee, and over $200.00 in food thrown out and we are waiting to have the entire cooling system REPLACED !!! Unit failed or was failing around the Memorial Day weekend 2018. We placed the call on Tuesday, May 29th, service repair person came on the 30th and was SUPER, INCREDIBLY nice and professional and listened to me gripe. He had the condenser, evaporator, compressor and miscellaneous other parts sent Fed-X to our home within 24 hours for a repair on June 2nd. What I am totally disgusted about is the second call to LG to fight the "agreed" upon warranty fees that will be around $250.00 dollars for labor not covered under the LG maintenance owners manual line item. In addition to the $200.00 in food and the $125.00 non-refundable service call fee, my wife and I are obligated to pay $575.00 over and above the $2,300 we already paid for a 2 year old refrigerator. The second call to LG is what really set me off. The person was rude, didn't want to here or could care less about my complaint. All they could repeat was that I agreed to paying the labor fees prior to work being done. This is completely UNACCEPTABLE !!! I understand the service repair person has to get paid, beyond that, forget it !!! Will NEVER buy another LG product again. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED !!!!

      Perfect fridge for our family

This LG counter depth refrigerator is perfect. There is plenty of room for everything with room to spare. The little bottles of condiments fit neatly on the icemaker door. A gallon of milk and other frequently used items fit on the other door, making them so easy to grab. I like the clear compartments on the doors. I am short so being able to see through those compartments to view the items stored there is important to me. Butter and other dairy cartons fit neatly in the top dairy compartment on the door. The drawers open smoothly and are a convenient size. The freezer drawer is easy to pull open. There are two upper drawers in the freezer. The top one is for our ice cream, treats, and frequently used ingredients. The second one holds all those small packages of things that usually get lost in a freezer. The lower part is deep and has a divider to help keep larger things sorted. Both the freezer and fridge have lights. Bright lights! I love the ice and water dispensers on the door. There is no icemaker in the freezer, however, it does come with a container to store extra ice cubes if you want to make them in advance but we haven’t needed it. The on-the-door icemaker makes more than enough ice for our family. I purchased the stainless steel exterior finish. Wasn’t sure I would like it because the front is not magnetic. The sides, however, are magnetic. It has a slightly curved front which enables it to reflect light from any angle. So my kitchen is even brighter than before. I don’t miss my refrigerator magnets at all, I like the clean bright finish of this new fridge. This fridge is very quiet. It has a faint whirring sound. Occasionally we hear ice cubes dropping into the storage container on the door but that is expected. There is also a small shelf on the right door under the bottom shelf. It’s great for storing little items like extra fast food condiment packets, string cheese, and little snack cups. After comparing many models and brands this refrigerator had all the features I wanted. It is thoughtfully designed.

The Best Refrigerator you can get for any price

The quality of the stainless is amazing. The space is laid out so that you can manipulate your groceries can fit easily into various configurations. Cool is the word here... this is a cool ... constantly cool utility. The Knowledge i received from the Sales Person was helpful in helping me decide which Brand and this refrigerator lives and stands up to the HIP and Delivers. Having a Wifi Blue tooth access to monitor the maintanance of this Fridge is also a reason that I am thrilled with its operation. from maintainence to filter changing, to how long a door maybe open on either the fridge itself or the freezer(which has a deep freeze to gentle freeze) and how many times its been open and how to keep things cool and frozen by changing your opening ... leaving the door open habbits... you can get good data to see how well you are conserving energy. I won't ever by another brand. And if you love Ice.. .this model makes more ice that you can go through. I love it. Best Ice Machine in a door of a refrigerator i have ever seen ... EVER! If you pass on this.. you simply are either over paying or missed the best deal of the century when it comes to a refrigerator at this price point.

Beware - early models have defrost issue

      • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase
      • My Best Buy® MemberMember

We got this fridge as an open box item at a significant discount about 4 months ago. Had it been completely new it would have went back to BestBuy. We have to have a counter depth model as that is all that will fit in our kitchen. These are a whole lot more expensive than full size fridges, so when we saw this one we jumped on it. After about 3 months ice that had slowly been building up on the condenser coils started coming out the vents behind the Glide and Serve drawer. This is not an area that is easily visible, so fortunately we noticed it before the fridge completely stopped working. This issue is probably why the original purchaser returned it. This is a known issue with this model where the defrost cycle does not run long enough, and the fix is a new main computer control board. LG had a local service company replace it at no cost, but we still had to empty out the fridge and all the shelves and drawers so the repairman could remove the ice from the coils. Then we had to wait two weeks for the part to arrive, and the technician to return and replace it in the back of the fridge. It's too bad because otherwise we really love this fridge. It provides so much more space than our old side-by-side. The filtered water tastes great, and the ice-maker, though small, provides sufficient ice for our every day needs. If you are looking to buy this model (choices for french-door counter depth models are very limited), I would suggest first calling LG and giving them the serial number of the unit to see if it has an older computer board that has the defrost issue.

High on appearance low on performance!

Purchased our refrigerator on March 20 2015. While waiting for the 3rd repairman in the last 10 days, thought now would be a good time to rate the refrigerator. I love the counter depth, stainless steel and overall looks of the refrigerator. If only it worked as good as it looks. Food inside the refrigerator was freezing and there was a build up of ice. After the first repair, we experienced the same problem a few days later. That same day, after the second repair, we were getting errors on the refrigerator and freezer. Customer service was anything but helpful--told us to unplug to clear the errors. Next morning same errors but the refrigerator was NOT cooling. Repairman just left (for the third time) and the fan was not working and again there was a small build up of ice. My experience with LG customer service has not been good. We are convinced we have a LEMON! No complaints on service from Best Buy or repairmen. We should have done more research on LG before buying as further research shows many others have experienced the same from LG, Anxious to see if Best Buy posts this as ratings they have on this are good.

      Very nice when it works

      • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

We bought the refrigerator from Best Buy in March of 2016 for a discounted price. It was the right size for the counter depth that we were looking for. Even though the ice capacity is pretty small and the space is small, we were quite happy with it because the fridge looked nice and everything was working fine. About 1 1/2 months ago, we noticed that the temperature was not as cold anymore and soon enough the fridge stopped making ice. Unfortunately, a year has passed so we couldn't get a warranty work on it. The part was still covered up to 3 years. When we called the representative, they gave us a few options to "extend" the warranty, but it was only for the ice maker and for each we had to pay at least $400. One policy would cover the labor cost but only if the technician is approved by LG, which is understandable. Except she couldn't find one in our area - not in the city of Houston. (REALLY?). So we had to find a technician on our own and if the technician charged more than they think the cost would be, we had to pay the difference ourselves. So, to make a long story short, we decided to hire a technician ourselves and let LG covered the part. So, a year ago, we paid this item during sale for about $2700 with tax and when the technician finished fixing it a week ago, we had to shell out another $950 for the labor. So, within a year and half, we spent close to $3700 on this fridge. We still have our ugly looking 20 year old fridge in the garage that we never spent a dime since we bought it. Would I recommend this to a friend. NO way. Would I buy another LG? Are you kidding? They definitely lost a customer with us. We also decided, if this thing break again, we are going to go ahead and replace it. No more LG for us.

An Excellent Refrigerator with One Caveat

      • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase
      • My Best Buy® Elite Plus MemberElite Plus Member

This refrigerator is essentially the counter-depth equivalent to a full-size LG refrigerator we had at our previous house, and which we liked very much, so when our current 14 year old unit developed problems, we focused on LG products again. We like this unit for the excellent interior lighting, quiet operation (quieter than the previous LG), ice maker placement, flexibility in shelf arrangement, easy-open freezer door, and general good looks. We don't use much ice, so I can't comment on the issues other reviewers have had with ice production. We have had the unit for only a month, and we haven't had any operational issues so far. We'll keep our fingers crossed, since some other reviewers haven't been as fortunate. I would rate the unit five stars except for one thing. This unit replaced a built-in refrigerator, so there was cabinetry on both sides of the refrigerator space. We didn't want to go to the expense of another built-in, so we bought the counter depth unit, thinking that it would amount to just about the same thing. But when the unit was in place and the front feet extended to lift it off the front rollers, the bottom edge of the unit protruded 1-1/2 inches from the face of the cabinet while the top edge was flush with the face of the cabinet. I was able to rectify this situation by placing a strip of 1/2 inch plywood on the floor at the rear of the unit and using some carpenters' shims to make little ramps for the rear rollers to ascend when the unit was pushed toward the wall, raising the rear of the unit enough to compensate for its natural backward lean. But I shouldn't have had to do this with a $3000+ refrigerator. It would be very simple for LG to include adjustable rear legs to facilitate making the unit exactly vertical to match the edge of the cabinetry, just like is done with built-in refrigerators. It looks fine now, but it can require a little work to get there.
