Great TV
Posted .This is a great TV. This is my second LG TV, first being a 37" 720p 60mhz - which also looks great with cable HD. The only issue that I have with this this TV is that I did think that the sound was out of sync with cable while watching TV. I read somewhere that a good HDMI cable (1.3) can fix the issue. I swapped my Blue Ray HDMI cable (1.3) with the cable company HDMI cable (seemingly cheaper) and it fixed the problem. I wish the TV had PIP but not a big deal. Menus are very easy to use. The refresh rate (120mhz - which you can adjust) does make some movies and shows look like they are "live shot". Some people say that they dont like it, but the picture is very crisp with moving action so I like it. I almost bought a Sony, this has worked out better especially for the price!

Decent TV for the price
Posted .First off, if you are not expecting to use Blu-Ray, PS3 or Xbox, you are wasting you money on 1080P. We have a 50" Plasma Panasonic 720P (2,000,000:1 contrast ratio) HDTV in which the richness of the color kills this LG. The downfall with Plasma: uses much more energy than LCD. We purchase this 47" LG about a week ago along with an LG HTS. Originally I had the HTS connected to the TV with an old (2 yrs.) HDMI cable. There was audio lag and the movement was very unnatural. So I first had to turn off TruMotion 120Hz, which fixed the movement issue. To fix the audio issue, I went out and bought 2 Rocketfish HDMI cables and optical audio cable. This fixed this problem. But I still had audio lag on my HD channels from my cable box. Easy fix here; the cable box had optical audio output which I connected directly to my HTS. No more audio lag for anything, since I'm using no audio from the TV itself. So with that problem out of the way, I've now tried to tackle the Simplink problem. The isssus is that every time I turn off the TV, the link between the TV and HTS is lost, therefore I can't control audio options through the TV remote, or my cable box remote (which is also a universal remote.) I called LG customer service and had a difficult time understanding the man, and it seemed as if he had a hard time understanding my problem. Once he did, he said "the TV shouldn't do that", to which I replied "I know, that's why I'm calling". Long story short, I still have no fix, as I have gotten no call back on the solution to this fix. All being said, I am starting to like the TV, as the picture is very crisp. Watching direction from the front, the picture is nice and bright (when you set it the way you want), but from an angle more than probably 30 degrees, it darkens. I feel like I comprimised by a 47" 1080P LCD, vs. buying a 50" 720P Plasma for $200 less.

Great tv for the price no doubt
Posted .IVE HAD THIS TV FOR 3 MONTHS NOW. I LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO USE THE PRODUCT FOR A WHILE BEFORE HEADING TO THE REVIEWS. I'LL START BY SAYING THIS IS A GREAT TV FOR THE PRICE. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A 1080P TV FOR A REASONABLE PRICE LOOK NO FURTHER. THE TRU MOTION FEATURE IS A BIT OVERRATED. PLAYING X BOX 360 AND PS3 IS AMAZING. MOVIES ARE ALSO GREAT, REAL CINEMA FEATURE IS AWESOME. IVE PURCHASED 26 MOVIES SINCE IVE OWNED THIS TV WHICH HAS ONLY BEEN FOR 3 MONTHS. HOWEVER WATCHING BLURAY AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE HERTZ UP HIGH IS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. THERE'S ACTUALLY MORE BLUR WHEN THE HERTZ ARE HIGHER WHICH I THINK IS BACKWARDS SO I LEAVE IT ON LOW WHEN WATCHING BLURAY AND OFF OTHERWISE. BEFORE I PURCHASED THIS TV I READ ALOT OF REVIEWS ABOUT THE LIP SYNC ISSUES. I WAS SKEPTICAL BUT I PURCHASED IT ANYWAY. I DIDN'T NOTICE AT FIRST BUT EVENTUALLY IT BECAME A HUGE DISTRACTION. I CONTACTED LG AND THEY CHOSE TO BLAME EVERYONE BUT THEMSELVES. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE HDMI CABLES I WAS. I SAID NO WAY, I HAVE ROCKETFISH HDMI CABLES ON ALL DEVICES. AFTER A FEW WEEKS I RECIEVED A CALL FROM LG STATING THAT THEY'VE DEVELOPED A SOFTWARE TO ELIMINATE THE ISSUE. 2 DAYS LATER A TECHNICIAN CAME OUT TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE UPDATE VIA USB. 5 MINUTES LATER THE PROBLEM IS GONE. I REPEAT GONE!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE LIP SYNC ISSUES!!!!!! NEVER MIND THOSE SONY'S OR SAMSUNG'S IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT LG HAS YOU COVERED. IN FACT SAVE THE EXTRA MONEY AND INVEST IN A BLURAY PLAYER OR THETER SYSTEM.

Very good LCD TV.
Posted .Ok, I was in the market for a new LCD TV. I read tons of reviews on TV’s in the 46” to 50” range. The 2.7ms response time that this TV offers was the best I could find in that range, and the 80,000: 1 contrast ratio was right up there too. Now I read the reviews on this site about the lip sync problem. I got it home, hooked it up, and looked at it real close for a few days. I could have been my imagination, but I thought I saw a SLIGHT sync issue on some channels. My wife said she couldn’t see any problems at all. However, I do not think it is a problem with the TV itself. I think it is a problem with the source signal. I have a Comcast HD/DVR box, and an LG home theater system with Blue-ray. Everything is connected with Monster HDMI cables. I thought I would hook everything up and get 1080p on every channel….that’s just not the way it works. First, no cable box broadcasts above 1080i, and standard definition is still in 480i. So, even with your new LCD TV, SD will still look a little grainy. I guess the point is if you’re watching an SD channel, expect SD quality. Now some SD channels look better that others, but again that’s the source signal and not the TV. The only time I could even remotely see an audio sync problem was on some of the SD channels like lifetime. And even then I had to look real hard. High Def channels on the other hand are where this TV starts to shine. I didn’t see any sync problems, and only the occasional pixelation, again due to the source signal. Some HD channels were better than others. I am very impressed with this TV’s performance in HD. The clear voice makes it easy to here the actors voice, even with loud back round noise like in a bar scene. The sound on the TV is very good, but to get the full HD experience you need a Home Theater System. Then I put in a Blue-ray. Oh my God. The picture was just amazing, and the sound coming out of my HTS was awesome. This is how movies were meant to be seen. I saw NO sync problems, NO picture problems, it was perfect. The Truemotion takes a little getting used to, but it’s a very cool effect. The picture was so clear I could see acne on the actor’s faces. I could see if one hair was out of place. It was like someone hung a 47” frame up on the set at universal, and I was looking though it watching the movie being filmed. Just superb picture quality. Overall, a very good buy with easy to use controls. Use good quality cables, feed it a good source signal, and sit back and enjoy. You will be very hard pressed to find a better LCD TV for this price.

Lip sync solution?
Posted .I just ordered this tv (to replace a 42" Sony Bravia which will be going in our master bedroom) and am waiting for delivery. Bought the TV for the price and all the great reviews on picture quality. I have a sound system that I will use for this tv however have read the lip sync issues on a lot of the reviews. In reading other LG reveiws, I found this "How To Fix Lip Sync" in the 42" LG review section from Sprague on 9/07/09. Thought I would post this here for all those who are having issues... Hopefully this will work for the 47" models....See if it works and report back. Voice Sync Delay FIX! (How to) 09/07/2009 By Sprague from PA "1) press and hold the menu button on the side of the TV then press and hold the menu button on the remote until the display says "Enter Password" 2) enter four zeros from the remote control to get past the password screen (you should now see an "IN START" menu with all kinds of information listed) 4) look at the lower left corner where there should be a numbered menu -- menu option 4 should say "System" 5) use the down arrow until the word "System" is highlighted (pressing the number '4' will not take you down the menu) and press the enter key (you should now be on the System menu near the middle of the screen) 6) press the down arrow to option 9 "Lip Sync Adjust" and then press the left arrow to adjust the value to zero (mine was set to 20 from the factory) 7) press the return key to get out of the menu and bingo, you're done!"

It's All Good!!!
Posted .Before purchasing this set I did some major research. I looked at dozens of brands and models. Also, I checked different stores to compare pricing. I was set on getting a minimum 120Hz refresh rate and had to have 1080p HD picture quality. This LG offered those specs and also included one of the fastest response times I could find of 2.7 ms ultrafast Trumotion. All this with a great contrast ratio of 80,000 to 1. I dare you to find these great specs on any other brand for anywhere near the price of the LG. Contrary to some complaints I have seen about sound, it has simulated surround, sound leveling and clearvoice technology from a 20W two way invisible speaker system. I can hear the voice clearly even in scenes with loud background noise, which has been a problem for me with other TV's. I use Directv HD and BD for movies and have not seen any issues with picture sound synch and I am very picky when it comes to technology, I would notice. I have had several friends and family comment on the TV and how they have never seen anything like it before, speaking of picture quality. Combined with my Onkyo 700W THX AV 7.1 surround receiver and top of the line Klipsch speakers and subwoofer the sound can compete with any movie theatre. I will be buying a new 42" 1080p to replace the older one in my bedroom and I am sure it will be another LG. You can't match this quality and these features for anywhere near this price with any other brand. It's just not happening.

Great TV but does have lip synch issue
Posted .I did see some reviews that mentioned a lip synch issue (sound and picture not perfectly synched), but they were so few that I took a chance. THIS TV DOES HAVE A LIP SYNCH ISSUE. The difference between the picture and sound went from barely noticable to maybe .25 second delay of the sound. I hooked my Comcast cable box up to my home receiver via an optical audio cable and didn't have the issue when listening through my home theater system. I called LG customer support and they acknowledged that this TV has a lip synch issue when using an HDMI cable. They put me in touch with a local technical service and they were at my house within 3 days to update the firmware on the TV. Now that the firmware is updated the issue is resolved. Now that the issue is resolved I love this TV. The picture is great. When first powering the TV on, the picture looked kind of wierd. I had read reviews indicating that the "Tru Motion" can make the picture look strange. I turned that off and the picture looked better. I couldn't be happier with the picture on this TV - espescially for the price. The sound of this TV is about what you would expect. Nothing special, but definitely adequate. I also like the Matte finish of the screen. I have windows directly across from the TV and there is absolutely no glare. I would recommend this TV to anyone with the disclaimer that they should expect to either run the audio through a home theater system or expect to work with Customer Service to get the firmware update to fix the lip synch issue.
