Customers regard the picture quality, 3D capabilities, and black levels of this 55" OLED TV as exceptional, with many praising the lifelike images and immersive 3D experience. The curved screen and ease of use are also frequently cited as positive aspects, while some users note concerns about potential glare, motion issues, and the relatively high price. A few users mentioned experiences with screen burn-in. Overall, the positive feedback on picture quality and features outweighs the negative comments.
My wife and I were looking for a 4K TV. We compared reviews on several different brands and models before making a purchase. We strongly considered Samsung, because we had two Samsung TV's in our home that we have been very pleased and happy with for many years. However, they are not 4K and it was time to upgrade. We also wanted to keep 3D capability, and this LG OLED is the ONLY one we found that still offers 3D with this kind of quality. So, we took the plunge and purchased the 55" LG OLED Curved. We got it home and set it up. First, I have to say I was impressed with their packaging! It made the TV easier to remove with ZERO risk of damage. Set up was very quick and extremely simple. The TV was gorgeous! Thin bezel, gently curved panel, nice stand that just makes the TV look as though it's just floating. We hooked all our connections up and turned the TV on. Commence with "OOOHS, AAAHHS, and WOW's"! The picture is incredible! Extremely lifelike with deep gorgeous blacks and stunning color. The OS is simple to understand and use. Set up was super simple and nice. We also tried the 3D which just blew us away. Comparison The wife was still unsure about the reviews and couldn't believe the LG could possibly be better than a Samsung. So, we bought a Samsung top of the line 9500 model, just to be sure and compare the two in our home. We compared the Samsung to the LG OLED side by side in every category. Here's our honest thoughts: Samsung's packaging was badly lacking here. Unboxing was a pain. The box was not designed to lift off like the LG's. Instead you must lie the box down flat and proceed from there. It was a little challenging and was worried about accidentally causing damage to the fragile curved panel. LG wins for simplest unboxing and set up and best curve. LG also wins for best picture, deepest blacks, and dimming. Aesthetically, the LG also wins because the "floating" stand appearance is gorgeous and is great for owners who do not want to wall mount their TV. Samsung stand left much to be desired. It's pretty if you like the "bling" factor, but I felt they could have done much better as it is a bit awkward to move around. The built in Wi-Fi is also excellent, solid and steady; where the Samsung dropped connection frequently. The LG has 3D which is mind blowing; whereas the Samsung does not have 3D. For the price tag on the Samsung, 3D should have been included. The Samsung's curve is more in depth than the LG, and I honestly didn't like it. The curve on the LG is gentle - not as deep and I felt it offered much better and very clear viewing from the sides. The only thing I can hand a win to Samsung on is their remote. It is small, nice, and offers excellent voice control. If you own a new generation Apple TV, the remote is very similar to it. In comparison, the LG remote is larger and longer, but has many more options for control on it. I liked the Samsung's OS as it is simple, clean and easy to use. It automatically recognizes devices connected to it and offers input icons to match your device. That being said, the LG's OS is also very nice and simple to use, but with many more features to tweak your settings. Samsung and LG OLED both have excellent sound. Gaming - LG handles gaming with the PS4 amazingly well. I had some Lag and motion issues with Samsung. With the LG, I didn't even need to switch it to Game Mode and was able to play without noticing any issues. Final Thoughts There was simply no denying that the LG OLED was, hands down the best, and we have chosen to keep it. We returned the Samsung and haven't regretted our decision one little bit! LG really has a truly superior product with this 4K OLED, and even I am surprised by it (having been primarily a Samsung fan for many years). It has now been since November and the TV picture quality just keeps improving. Can't say enough good things about it!
