Amazing picture, incredible sound. Great price.
|Posted .After looking at countless 4K TVs and researching all the features, specs, reviews and especially picture quality and the important "Full Array dim" vs. "Edge / Local Dimming" (For more info, Google "full array local dimming vs local dimming" to see the difference) and the 120hz refresh rate, I decided to go with this LG model. This 55SK9000 model has the Full Array and 120hz refresh. But still coming from a older 2011 Plasma 1080HD TV which had deeper blacks, this was quite a step up in a good way and yes, also a slight learning curve to get the picture just right with the LED picture setting. And thanks to the internet, tips and tutorials I was able to get the settings just right for an incredible picture - especially in a dark room - For me, tweaking the "ISF - Expert Dark Room" picture setting nailed the picture perfectly for me. The Dolby Vision HDR / HDR10 does look great, some very vivid colors and detail. Personally I did find it a little too intense for some TV programming. However, it looks incredible in gaming, PS4, XBox users will see a big difference! It does have an amazing picture, even watching cable with 1080 HD resolution, the upscale is impressive. It took a few days to get used to the very smooth "TruMotion" (aka, Soap Opera effect, it's a setting again I did not have on my older TVs so this was new to me.). No worries, if it does become a bother to you, this setting can be turned off. The one major thing many might notice right off the bat, the sound quality of this TV! The "Dolby Atmos" sound is incredible, clear voice, mixed with a good bass. You could actually get away without purchasing a sound bar with this TV. My previous flat-screens always had, well point blank terrible sound, any slight bass would produce horrible distortion, but not this model. Of course if you want amazing mind-blowing sound while watching an action movie - for example, sure a sound bar, or hook this up to a full surround system will improve your viewing and sound experience. But the external speakers in this TV is very impressive! One feature that I personally loved, since I am on Fios cable, my DVR is hooked into the HDMI port, I feared the awesome LG Magic Remote would just be put aside, only used to switch between HDMI ports, pull up the WebOS and other smart features & apps - just like my previous older TVs, I was wrong thankfully. During the initial setup, the TV will ask you about your cable service, zip code, your cable guide will import into the TV itself and all the features your cable provided remote will now work with the LG Magic Remote, to me a big plus! And since the Magic Remote is voice assisted, you can simply say "Turn to channel 506", your cable provided DVR will change to that channel. For those new to this remote, it will take some time - not much - to learn the buttons, navigation, but it's a fun experience. If you have a "smart remote" like a Harmony, or any smart remote - this works with this model as well. It does have Google and Alexa assist, also Amazon Prime Video and Netflix is build into the TV and can be accessed with one click on the remote. The LG App store has plenty of features to download, even apps on your smartphone/tablet that can work with this LG. One tiny disappointment is HBO Go is not on LG TV, yet. It's not a huge deal breaker since I have this app on my Amazon Fire TV 4K stick and Apple TV. Final thought, I know there are far less expensive 4K TVs out there, a ton of models, brand names to the point it can make you dizzy - which is why I did research - my biggest question is "why is one 4K $399 for a 55", why is this other one $1000 for the same size??" You have to see what these less expensive models have and what they are lacking, some of these models can be 2-3 years old. Sadly, just like many older phones, the TV firmware will not be updated (think of it as an old phone, computer that will not support new firmware), the processor on the older TVs may not be fast enough. This particular model - which was once well over $1000 is about 1 year old, still "fast" when it comes to processors and not considered outdated. The price drop on this TV came just in time. I'm fully aware the price on this will most likely drop even more by the end of Summer or by the Holidays, especially as 8K TVs are now here. For me, as of right now, I do not regret my purchase.

Not a terrible TV but not worth the money
|Posted .The physical TV itself had a nice design and had no issues viewing the picture in either dark nor bright rooms. The picture on bright scenes and images was beautiful. The dark scenes/images could have been a little better in my opinion. Set up wasn't too difficult in my opinion. The biggest complaint I had was that after 3 days of use the picture became bad and had a bunch of purple lines all over the screen. Returned and picked up the Samsung Q6FN and have been much happier in nearly all aspects.

Beautiful Picture and Sound
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWhat can i tell you about this amazing LG 4K UHD TV I can tell you the specs of the TV. What it has and what the TV ratio is or the Smart Features the voice command. I can tell you that it has 4 HDMI and 3 USB ports. But you can read this on the Best Buy web-site. But what i can tell you is that the picture is the best that i have seen in TV's. I have an older 4K TV from another big name in electronics and i have to say i LOVE THE PICTURE of this. It is so clear older movies look even better on this then when they 1st came out and the newer movies are awesome. I put this up in the living room and now it's a fight to see who gets control of it. ATMOS DOLBY Sound of this TV no Joke is amazing i even disconnected my sound bar and it is an expensive sound bar. I don't know of another brand that has a slim line TV with this much sound. If you hear it in the store you might think it's not that good but when you get it home it's a big fills the room and i only have it on 10. I know you read these reviews and they have all the info on them in these description about what it has and how it run's the type of glass screen. But for the money i really do recommend this LG. I kid you not it is making me think of replacing all of my others with LG. This TV has made me think about looking more into LG for my next purchase. If you do read this before buying the LG i will tell you that you wont be disappointed with it. You will not be returning it you will even do what i did and disconnect your soundbar you wont need it.

Well, Hello Beautiful!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased this TV on a busy Black Friday evening. For the longest time, I had my heart set on one of the Samsung QLED’s, I am Samsung fan for most of their technologies. I knew this was going to be more of an investment for me. This would be a TV I would have for a long time considering my finances and the last time I bought a TV was maybe 2010; time for an upgrade. After doing more research than my Master’s degree thesis, I decided to take a deep dive into the LG world; I never gave them a chance before. I came across the LG SK9000 and I was really happy with what I saw and I took many trips to Best Buy talking with sales associates to dissect it as much as we could. I want everyone to read this next sentence very carefully: There is no such thing as a PERFECT TV. Hear me out. Just how there are no perfect people, there is no perfect TV. There is the good and the bad with everything and I highly, highly, recommend everyone to do your homework and take trips to the store and see things for yourself. It doesn’t matter if you are in the market for a TV, kitchen appliance, whatever. I was at a point where I just said, enough is enough with the research, time to commit! I went in Black Friday evening, and talked to one of the sales associates named, Mitch. It is time to put this gentleman in the spot light simply because he earned it. Even though Black Friday was in full force by now, Mitch was grounded, extremely knowledgeable, collective and seemed ready for anything. I told him I would like the LG SK9000 which he had to call the warehouse to get because they ran out on the floor. No problem. In the meantime we talked about the TV, and I could tell he was not BS’ing me. Everything we discussed in that short amount of time, Full Array Local Dimming, the 4K picture, the Remote, the User Interface, etc. Alright, time to bring up other TV companies other than LG. What Mitch did that I thought was really great was he gave straight FACTS and he let me decide on what was best for me. He didn’t necessarily push me one way or the other and did not talk negative about other products or companies, again he gave straight FACTS and he compared the TV’s I said on the spot; that’ pretty impressive. He also never let me out of his sight until I got the TV. All of this puts him in the distinguished category. I walked away with a new 4K Blu-Ray player as well. I brought the TV home and Hello Beautiful! The setup was very easy, the picture is SPECTACULAR. I popped in Avengers Infinity War (4K UHD) and was beyond impressed! Very, very bright and sleek design! When that UHD kicked in, I couldn’t tell if Robert Downey Jr was on the TV or standing right in front of me. The Full Array Local Dimming is awesome and I understand what others are saying about the black levels in regards to some black’s look like gray. Yes and no to that comment. The black levels look fine to me. You have to remember it is still an LCD panel and not an OLED. With OLED the black levels are amazing. You can play around with settings and I feel after doing this, you can achieve whatever look you have in mind. It is not always going to be perfect out of the box. I remember seeing comments about the stand for the TV. I don’t have a problem with it at all. I think it’s sleek and I don’t have anything negative to say about the stand. Listen, if you have something negative to say about a stand for a TV, I am worried about you. I thought the audio, Dolby Atmos was great! Although I don’t necessarily think a sound bar is %100 necessary, I bought one anyway the following day and that was a Samsung product. My advice: If it is in your budget, go for it. If a sound bar is it not in your budget, do not worry about it. In regards to refresh rate, the motion and transition between scenes and pictures is very, very smooth. The action scenes in Avengers were super fun to watch for this very reason. 120 refresh rate is pretty much the standard anymore and I wouldn’t get too hung up on refresh rate. All companies have their own proprietary technology to enhance refresh rate and I would advise to look at what other features come along with refresh rate. i.e. Full Array Local Dimming. Reliable sources on the internet prefer this TV over other more expensive TV’s from other companies. At the end of the day, this TV is a keeper! I will have this for a very long time and I am looking forward to movie nights, sport watching, 4K content, and much more! If you are looking for a very solid (I mean very solid) TV without spending thousands of dollars for say an OLED TV, I honestly wouldn’t think twice. Get the TV and you know what, take it back if you don’t like it. I highly doubt that will happen though!

Better Than Expected 4K TV
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIt took me 6 months of reviewing every mid range 4K TV, and I finally decided on the LG SK9000. It has far exceeded my expectations, I have a bright room during the day and this TV is recommended for a bright room. The big boy reviews say it doesn't perform well in a dark room because the blacks look grey, I did not find that to be true, the blacks are very black in a dark room, the picture is sharp and clear and it doesn't matter what programming or apps I watch. I sit 9ft from my TV and I bought a 55in, which is more than adequate and it was affordable for me, I really wanted the 65in and it would have worked just fine and been more immersive, but couldn't justify the higher cost. The sound on this TV is amazing, it is crisp and clear and gets very loud, which is a lot better than most of the other brands, it has a decent bass, which works ok but not a deep booming bass that a sound bar would deliver. Some of the reviews say there is no room for a sound bar in front of the TV because of the stand, but I could fit one very nicely in front of mine, if I decided to get one. The Tv has no bezel so you must be careful during set up, and it will take 2 people to either hang it or put it on a TV stand, because the glass could crack if your not careful with it. The stand has a bit of a wobble to it so when you walk by it, if your floor shakes the Tv will wobble a bit, I don't have that problem, and of course if you hang it on the wall that would not be an issue at all. This is the best purchase I have made in a long time. The picture was great right out of the box, but with all the calibrations available on this TV anyone can get it exactly how they want the picture to be, and how they like their sound. I messed around with the calibrations for a few days until I perfected it to my taste.
