LG - SecurDisc 20x Internal Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Super Multi Drive

This drive is way awesome. It writes Cd-Rs at 42x! It is nice for burning CDs to play in the car b/c some writers dont write at fast speeds (and you know how poicky some car stereos are). The only downside is the lightscribe. Although lightscribe is really awesome and cool, it can take a while. when wanting to make a lightscribe label i suggest using the included software. It works like a charm! The cool thing about lightscribe is that i bought the beatles abbey road album off the internet, i made a jewel case cover and put the beatles faces on the CD with the included software. This is a really nice drive to have. I wanna see how good blu-ray is...

We purchased the LG SecurDisc 20x Internal Double-Layer DVD RW/CD-RW Super Multi Drive w/LightScribe burner to replace a failing tape drive. The LG burner worked great with the existing backup software. We are using this as a backup device on a mission critical control computer. The installation instructions were complete and easy to follow. DVD creation speed for this burner has been great and have been a signifigant improvement over our old backup system.

This burner is fast, versatile and works with all software. It burns sound or pictures and movies well with good quality. I have used it with different media and I am very satisfied that it is a very good value.

I like these drives overall, but was unable to get Real Rhapsody to recognize the drives. Their helpdesk said that they are not supported. No big deal I thought, but now I tried to install them in a new Pentium dual core system with a Intel system board. Both drives I bought from Bestbuy and they are IDE drives. The drives are not seen in BIOS wheather you setup them as CS or master/slave. I wound up buying two Lite-on drives that are SATA both work great and work with Real Rhapsody. So I will recommend these drives but I will probably just buy SATA DVDROM drives from here on out.

The software as packaged with the drive was all but worthless. All I got was an overview of operations. None of the label burning programs (Roxio, Nero, Sonic, Surething) came up under 'all programs' as described in 'Creating a Lightscribe Label'. Finally I was able to download the labeling template from the Lightscribe website. At least I'm pleased with the feature that allows me to make a label using 'My Pictures'. I eagerly anticipate a color version.

For the price, you would be hard pressed to find a drive with all these features. It is very reliable and I have not had any read or write errors from it, very fast as well. My only complaint would be the very limited Lightscribe software included with the drive. Overall, a great deal.

A bit on the expensive side, but having the guarantee of Best Buy and LG is worth it. It even comes with a second face if your tower isn't black! We plugged it in and it worked fine. It's quiet and fast, what more can you ask for from a DVD drive?

Great product. Burns everything we throw at it and no errors or coffee mug coaster results. Easy to use, but wish the lightscribe software was easier to use. This probably would be the only reason why it would not get a 5 from me. Other than that, I'm a happy camper!
