This dryer has a lot of great features. I will start with all the things I like. First, it has a light! I returned one a couple weeks before getting this dryer because of several reasons, one being no light. Second, I like the steam feature that does not require you to tap into a water line. You simply fill the built-in resivoir. I like the stainless steel drum and actual buttons that are not hyper sensitive. I also appreciate the "flow sense" indicator that tells you if lent is blocking the exhaust process. My main complaint is the rubber seal on the door is not adequate. They knew it had issues when it was made because it is even addressed in the instruction manual. The manual recommends wiping down the seal regularly. I have never had to do this for any other dryer. The seal collects a ton of lent. The seal does not really seal much at all I guess. There are pictures to show what I mean by at ton of lent. It also collects along the metal rim of the door frame (see pic). I have at feeling that even with proper maintenance, it will require future rubber seal replacement. I hope I'm wrong though. I am guessing there is a seal is on this model because of the steam option. I really don't recall a seal on my non steam dryers from the past. Bottom line, you must wipe it after every load, and who has time for that? The next complaint is that at least 3/4 the time I have to run the load a second time on "speed dry" bc it does not thoroughly dry. On "Speed Dry" it runs for the specified amount of time and not on autosense. I have tried increasing the dryness level to "very dry" and adding time with "reduce static" and "easy iron" add on features. It still has damp spots. It's as if the dryer isn't being honest with its self about how long it's really going to take to do it right the first time. I don't mind seeing 60 plus minutes for the Delicate cycle time because I'd rather not come to the dryer and expect to put in the next load, only to find that it will be 20 more minutes and press the 5-7 more buttons to set it all over again to achieve a dry load. My load sizes are the same as before and my older front loader whirlpool dryer had no trouble thoroughly drying the loads. The other complaint is that I typically select the same settings for clothes. On my last whirlpool dryer, it would remember my previous settings on that cycle. So now, every time I must select "very dry", "reduce static", "easy iron", "wrinkle care" when I choose the Permanent Press, Delicate or Cotton/Normal cycle (common clothes cycles). Another issue is the door height from the floor (10 inches). This is scam on all current models/brands. They put it so low to the ground to try to force you to buy the overpriced pedestal. My laundry basket does not slide under the door with any of the new models. That is annoying to have to angle it when I open and close it in a tight laundry room. Ultimately, I would recommend it to a friend. The brand new whirlpool that I had for 2 weeks before exchanging it with this one also has difficulty thoroughly drying the clothes in one pass. They all seem to under estimate the cycle time. My hope is that quality control and product development will take these honest critiques and improve future models.

just need hot air to dry your clothes

Look, a drier is a machine that blows air to dry your clothes in a short period of time. This machine does that. I'm not into all that 50 buttons and settings to just blow hot air. I wanted a machine with three or four settings- that's all anyone really needs- cold air, warm air and hot air. three settings. done. my wife really picked this one overall as it matches our LG washer and I too kind of like the metal look versus the plain white machines that are much cheaper and do the same thing -blow air to dry your clothes. Plus this drier was on sale and I had some gift cards to use . I knew I was only going to use one or two setting and the option to decide how long I want it to dry. all that other settings is just plain stupid and unnecessary in my opinion and drives up the price of the machine- but thats the makers doing so they can make more profit. You want to steam- use the washer's steam option. A feature I noticed after I bought the machine is that you can add the water in the upper left front compartment which is very convenient if you are looking for the steam function. unlike other brands that you have to connect a water hose from the back of the machine which now that i think about it, you wouldn't have to keep adding water but you will need to connect a Y-connecter from your water supply hose to the machine- again, a drier just needs to dry my clothes. Also since we are on that subject, I tried the steam feature and when it finished the clothes felt damp and not fully dried, so back to the one setting I will always use- which is the Manual Dry, Speed dry- that setting will let me choose how much time and the heat that I want. And my clothes come out nice and dry and not wrinkled. I do like that the machine will turn every couple of minutes once it's done to prevent wrinkling but thats not a deal breaker. As far as quiet, sure it's quiet, if you don't have any clothes in it with buttons and zippers. That's what makes the noise and it can get pretty loud if you have a couple of jeans and some shirts with buttons and zippers drying. have had it a couple weeks and its doing its job- drying my clothes. All those settings? like- Anti-bacterial? Really? So I asked my friend, does this machine spray Lysol on my clothes to kill bacteria? he said no, it just blows "real hot" air to kill the bacteria. uhhh, so LG just make a setting for "real hot". The machine dries your clothes. Get it if you like "the look". don't get caught up in all that other nonsense with the settings and features and downloading cycles?? what is that? Remember- the machine just blows air to dry your clothes. That goes for any drier you're looking to purchase. When these machines start being able to take the clothes out and put in a new load to dry on their own, then i'll get excited.

    LG dryer does the job

I have had this LG dryer for about 1 month. So far I am delighted. It seems to do a great job of drying my family's clothes, faster than my prior dryer. (In fairness, I do believe that is partly due to the fast spin speed on the matching washer, wringing out more of the water, so that the dryer has less to do). The unit sounds like a typical dryer, neither louder nor quieter. The preset cycles seem to cover a wide variety of clothing that you might be drying, but you can also override the defaults and change various settings. I have noticed one negative of the automatic drying cycles if the load is very small: The dryer thinks it is done sooner than it is. Maybe as soon as 10 minutes, when in fact it is not even close to dry. I have found that for "small" loads (2 - 3 items) I have to either set manual dry times, or run a couple successive cycles with the normal dry setting overridden to "more dry" setting. The estimated remaining time duration for your load is shown on the indicator, but this can change during the term of the cycle depending on the internal moisture sensors. With ordinary loads, it seems to properly dry the whole load on the automatic "normal dry" cycle. Only very small loads have given me an issue. So far it works like a charm, and I am happy with my purchase. My wife does not like that it is fairly low to the ground (as all front load washer/dryer pairs are), but I was not willing to spend an extra $500 to buy bases for both the washer and dryer ($250 x 2). That is just too much money for a base. I bought the washer and dryer for $699 each, and I think that was a fair price for the features that this this series model offers. I have not yet tried the "steam" option on the dryer, partly because it involves an extra step. There is no water hookup on the dryer. Instead, you have to manually fill a reservoir (drawer that pulls out in front). One day I will try it out, but I have not needed to yet. Also, I had considered changing out the standard rear-exhaust to a side exhaust, but the LG kit for this model is about $75, which seemed pricey for just a 4" diameter pipe and an elbow, so I didn't bother to change it out. In all, I am happy with my purchase. Hopefully, the dryer works properly for years to come.

I've had this dryer (and the LG steam washer) for a month and love it. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I haven't owned it long enough to know if there are any issues. I researched washers and dryers for months before deciding on this one. It has everything I want. The steam cycle is fantastic to refresh pillows or bedding. The standard cycles offer great options, but I also like that I can manually set a dry cycle myself. I have my washer and dryer stacked, so found out only once they were installed that the 6-foot power cord was too short to reach the dryer power outlet. I suggested doing your best to figure this out in advance and also determine whether you need a 3 or 4-prong power cord. The delivery guys brought a 3-prong one with them, so couldn't install it and had to come back another time. I could not find a 10-foot 4-prong power cord in any store (Best Buy, Lowe's, Home Depot, WalMart, Target, etc.). I had to order it online from Amazon, which further delayed the installation. If you're unsure, have both 3 and 4 prong on hand and return the one you don't use. Best Buy is great about accepting returns and I found Customer Service to be exceptional. Hopefully, my review will help you avoid my fiasco. :-)

Solid alternative for the dryers of the yesteryear

The old dryers used to be products of pure necessity. They, on paper, had multiple functions but you really used only one or two of the settings. This particular LG model is a step in a different direction, albeit one that is just an evolutionary step, rather than revolutionary. Pros: (+) The product is pretty, very quiet and easy to use. There are many many many (too many) options but they are easy to navigate if poorly/wakwardly named. You can download some online programs as well, if you so choose. Like I said, you will mostly use one or two of the programs. (+) Steam dry does a good job but it is one feature that I doubt most users will use more than a handful of times. We have dogs in the house. The feature comes in handy when drying large dog beds. (+) Reasonably priced. (It was on sale when I purchased it) Cons: (-) Some of the presets do not dry items "dry" enough. (-) The signal is annoying but it is very easy to turn off. (-) When you close the door, the machine shudders, probably due to thin constructions. Our washer feels very solid so after that one, it feels flimsy but this is really a perception and not really a shortcoming per se.

    Couldn't imagine a better dryer

As I imagine is the case with most people, the dryer choice is driven by the purchase of the matching washer. This was my case, but the specs and existing dryer views contributed to the decision to purchase this LG model. The dryer comes with the standard selection of presets and anything can easily be modified. The most amazing attribute of this dryer is how absolutely quiet it is. I constantly find myself checking to see if it's still running (even though I know I haven't heard the finish chimes). The wrinkle prevention settings appear to work well. The default drying times for any particular setting seem to be very accurate, although for large bulky items that tend to knot (e.g., sheets) , there may be damp spots. I don't think any dryer can solve that problem. I like the final result to be slightly warm, versus just 'dry,' so I'll often bump the dryness level up one notch. It's just so easy. For the techie in the family, you can download an LG app that ads extra settings. Personally, if I start doing laundry with a phone in my hand I'm afraid it'll end up in the washer, so I don't really use the app. Bottom line - excellent dryer. You can pay more for 'advanced' models, but I'm not sure you'd get anything more usable. Paired with the matching washer makes this purchase a no-brainer.

It's quiet, it does a good job at drying the clothes. However, the main reason why a I selected this dryer was the supposed ability to be able to turn it on with my smartphone, which would allow me to start a load drying and have it finishing the dry cycle shortly after or before I get home from work and another load of clothes finishing up in the washing machine and ready to dry thus cutting down on wait time for multiple loads. Still have not been able to sync my smartphone with the dryer and register it with LG's website. They do not have this model on their list. Customer service is clueless about this feature. I would not buy this model with the hopes of using your smartphone to control it and the Samsung models that have this type of feature require you to have a Samsung phone. LG did not make that requirement. You also get conflicting info about a dryer rack. The instructions clearly state to remove the dryer rack before you start the initial breaking in cycle. At no place in the owner's manual does it say that the dryer rack is only included with certain models. I was able to get LG to send me a free dryer rack using that argument but it took at least 4-5 calls to customer service and speaking with supervisors and even e-mailing them proof of purchase and delivery to get the rack for free. In my opinion, they (LG) needs to lower the price by at least $350.00.

    Extra functions are useless

Let me start like that, the features seems very nice and useful. However, some of the features are good for just few cloths, being just useful for a quick thing here and there. The dry sensor is a joke. It always turn off before the cloths are dry, so it is not actually saving any energy since I always have to use the manual or put to dry and go back to keep drying for extra couple minutes. The accessories are very expensive, so not worth buying them. In resume, you buy a very expensive machine, with nice features that doesn't work very well and at the end you just use the manual option. Also, I have this machine for almost 1 year and the back grille is rusting. For these reasons, giving a low score for the cost vs benefit.
