Velvet Revolver unloads it's supergroup Hard Rock!

"Libertad" is the second album from the Hard Rock supergroup, Velvet Revolver. Man, can these guys put down some Hard Rock grooves! Every song, all 13 of them, are not just cool and catchy, they are true Hard Rock songs that sound great. Scott Weiland will always have his recognizable vocals, yet he does not sound like he is fronting Stone Temple Pilots here at all. The same goes for Slash on guitar, Duff McKagan on bass and Matt Sorum on drums, all three have their unique styles, yet you know this is not Guns N' Roses! Velvet Revolver has done a fantastic job at creating their own sound, it is downright heavy groove inflicted and hard on the heavy beats. "Let It Roll", "She Mine", and "She Builds Quick Machines" are three tunes that establish the quick flowing rhythm and Hard Rock sound, while keeping an up tempo throughout. Overall, "Libertad" does not sound as polished as you would expect from a supergroup like this. These guys play tight, yet there is an air of raw energy that filters through each song, this only enhances the total Hard Rock and heavy vibe that borders on Metal with "Libertad". Frankly, it is a satisfying relief to not have a crystal clean production and sound from Velvet Revolver, this album would not be as awesome if it did. Velvet Revolver does an unreal cover of the Electric Light Orchestra classic, "Can't Get It Out Of My Head". Scott Weiland is simply super on vocals throughout "Libertad", yet on this ELO cover, wow. I do not want to overlook Dave Kushner on guitar, he too is a talent and key member of this group. Liberate yourself and pick up "Libertad", you will become a Velvet Revolver fan, guaranteed. The liner notes are a hit, with 12 pages of expanded artwork, lyrics, individual photos of each band member, and credits.

At the request of my best friend and husband I picked this cd up for him I have added it to my ipod and just love to play it all day long my #1 song is "Get out the Door" I wanted to take my husband to see them play at the Irvine Medows this past summer but due to the fire's that hit my town this last year the show moved to LA which gave me a chance to gain my utmost and fullest flavor for this band I cant wait to burn a cd for my 17 year old rocker nice so she will be ready for the show I plan to go to. This band Rocks and I cant wait to see them live man what energy.

    great 2nd effort

The second VR release and a strong follow-up to their first effort Contraband. Let it Roll, She Mine, & She Builds Quick Macines all rock solidly. Slash's guitar work has never been finer and his rythym section of former Gun n Roses bandmates Duff and Matt is tight. Last Fight is a slower song released as a single and is OK. Former Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott Weiland does a great job on vocals. While leaving their GnR roots in the dust, Slash and comapny have forged a new rock band that holds great promise for the future.

    Awesome band, awesome CD but...

I'm really mad that Best Buy calls 'Libertad' Pop. This most certainly is NOT Pop Best Buy!
