Customers are enthusiastic about the WĀKE Series case's lightweight design and protective qualities, with many praising its ability to safeguard their iPads from drops and falls. However, some users found the case challenging to install and remove due to its snug fit and rigid construction. The case's material, sourced from recycled ocean plastic, also received positive feedback.
As an environmentalist, I love the concept of ocean plastic recycled items coming on the market these days. This Lifeproof WAKE series, 85% ocean plastic recycled iPad case is one such device. Made of hard moulded plastic, this case is designed to protect your iPad from trips, slips and falls. The case is attractive matte black, made of plastic that is really inflexible. The wave design on the back provides ample grip, though I’d have liked more grip. The case is thin and light. I am sure the case is more than adequate in protecting the iPad when accidentally dropped, but there are still things I am not a fan of. What I do not like about this case is primarily due to what I deem is its design flaw. The hard plastic case is impossible to get an iPad 8th generation into it without forcing it. I struggled to get the iPad into the case and then struggled to get it out. When you do get the iPad in, it’s hard to use the buttons on the top (power) and side (volume) as there is no give. This area for one should have been a softer more malleable plastic or TPU or left open. The lack of a screen protector cover is another (something I prefer to have and have on my other iPad cases). I am also not a huge fan of the basic black case. I like colours… That said, it’s a fine case, and it does help protect the environment in its recycled and reuse of ocean plastic, however, its flaws need to be taken into consideration, particularly the difficulty in getting the iPad in and out of the case and the button accessibility.

The LifeProof WAKE case (not sure why they named it that as it doesn’t have a front cover that “wakes” the case when it’s opened) offers good protection without adding much bulk. The case is made from recycled materials so I definitely applaud Lifeproof for trying to solve the plastic problem in the ocean. The case is very rigid which can be both a plus and a minus. The minus being it can be tough to get the iPad in and out of the case. I found it to be easiest when I put one side in then worked to get the other side in working from the top where the power button is, to bottom. It will appear that one corner is not fully seated, but I believe it’s like that to make it easier to remove. If you have limited hand strength this may not be the case for you as it could be tough to get it in and out, for this reason alone it really is a 4.5 star product to me.
