First off you must know that I am a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fanatic. That said, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The music is mostly live versions of the hits but there are a lot of covers and extended versions that you probably haven't heard before. As Tom says in the included book these are tracks that he and the band have decided were the best live versions that they have recorded. I can't help but agree. There is a live version of Spike that is absolutly amazing. The sound quality satisfy's all of my needs. The extras can't be beat. In addition to the 4 CD's of live music there is a documentary DVD that will probably only appeal to the diehard fan, like me. The included concert DVD is a nice look back at there early performance style. There is also a Blueray disc that has all 61 tracks on one disc. Neil Young take note, your Blueray box set was $299 and Tom included it as an extra for free. There is a nice collection of reprinted back stage passes and a nice lithograph. The included book has a lot of nice photos and pieces written by people that have reviewed his shows through the years. As happy as I am with this purchase I know it probably isn't for everyone. The casual fan should probably just stick with the 48 track version that sells for less than $20. Who else puts out a box set for less. Nobody. Tom Petty once again shows that he cares about his fans and there wallets. Turn it up and enjoy.

This limited edition Best Buy Exclusive release is absolutely amazing. The standard release has 4 compact discs and is incredible on its own. This limited edition has an extra disc of songs, a blue ray disc with all the songs in glorious uncompressed 5.1 sound, vinyl (which is why the box is so big) and the artwork by Emek included. It is a collection for the ages. You get a musical history of Tom Petty in a collection for anyone. I didn't find one track in the package I didn't love to listen to. Mr. Petty has been long underrated and this compact disc set will showcase his incredible talents. Kudos to Tom Petty and everyone involved in this release. Even without the extras this is one of the best (and best priced disc sets available today). The exclusive set is a little pricey at 125.00 but Best Buy has had it on sale for 99.99. It will only increase in value. If you can find it, get it. It is worth the search and the cost!

I actually bought this for a gift for my wife even though we both like Tom Petty. This is a great box set with tons of live stuff. If you love live music albums, then you will love this. It came with lots of extra goodies along with DVDs and even an LP. We are music collectors and this is a definite must have for our collection. I highly recommend this to people who not only love rock n roll, but those who love live music as well. If you don't want all of the fancy packaging and extra content (DVD, LP), then you might want to save some money and just get the CD set.
