Original Hall of Fame release is better

I give this 3 stars because I am not sure what the purpose of this release was. This is a re-issue of 2000's CD "Hall of Fame" with Ray Thomas' great song "Legend of a Mind" cut out. The picture inside the booklet is of an empty hall with a slide showing just Justin Hayward, John Lodge, and Graeme Edge. Ray retired in 2003 but was very much active in the original concert, which also aired on PBS and is available on DVD. The Moodies most recent release at the time was 1999's "Strange Times," and 3 selections from that are included: "English Sunset," "Haunted," and "Words You Say". "English Sunset" really benefits from the concert treatment, acquiring a punch lacking on the original track. John's "Words You Say" is disappointing in that it just stops rather than ends. Ray's flute is great on this track, though. The rest of the songs have all been released in live versions before, most notably 1992's terrific "Live at Red Rocks," where there are better versions. You would think that for this edition they would have released songs from the concert that were not on the "Hall of Fame" CD. If you have "Hall of Fame," there is no reason to buy this unless you are an inveterate collector like me. Actually, there is no real reason to buy this at all. Just get "Hall of Fame."

Good Moody Blues music. We bought the CD for use while traveling in the car, but it was hard to hear parts of the live concert unless the volume was turned up to an almost uncomfortable level.

The CD was just okay. I guess I just wasn't as impressed with the music. But that's my opinion. I'm sure others would love it.
