Style over function
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several Harmony Remotes and have bought and programed them for my sisters, as well. I bought this one after the buttons on my Harmony One started becoming reluctant to work. I tried to fix it by following a YouTube video and ended up killing it. The Harmony One was no longer available, so I bought a Harmony Ultimate One. It is smaller than the Harmony One, because it has eliminated the number pad in favor of touch screen number arrangement. Even using the new "My Harmony" program (as opposed to "Harmony Remote," which proceeded it), it was easy to program. The problems I have with the new Harmony seem to be related to either the design of the keys or the design of my hands. For example, many times when I intend to use the Channel/Page button, it end up hitting the Return key. The design of the keys are much like my original Harmony 880 remote - very stylized and not as practical as the Harmony One. which had more space between the keys. Of course the Harmony One was much larger than the Harmony Ultimate One and had a number pad. However, in the end, it was the number keys that went bad on the Harmony One, so this one should last longer. All and all, I recommend the Harmony Ultimate One because of the ease of programming, but I wish it had simple round buttons.

Best Universal Remote
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a skeptic with this universal remote. It was featured in "Deal of the Day" so I thought I would give it a try. It turned out to be a great decision. I was able to sync it to my LG 4K TV with WebOS, my Bose 300 sound bar and my DirecTV box. It is easy to install/set up with all devices (that are compatible, which is hundreds). I like the capability to add favorite channels and activities base on the capabilities of the hardware, i.e the Harmony remote allows me to set up a short cut to apps on the remote, and shortcut to music since my Bose connect to wifi and you can sync to different music apps. It was a steal for the price. Simply Amazing.

Has its quirks.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The remote itself is pretty good, but the setup took a awhile. my wife was able to start using it right away, but there are some quibbles here and there on having this be the only remote we need. some basic functions, like searching, are more cumbersome with this than the other remotes.

Excellent choice
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to navigate use and programming. Logical menu layout with appropriately sized LCD and sleek appearance. Love the station icons, which makes remote sophisticated, while eliminating need to memorize desired channels. Built in troubleshooting option works flawlessly. This remote easily stacks up to another remote I own costing over $1,400 which requires a tech to show up to my home for programming with vendor’s propriety software.

Better than I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have never used a Harmony remote, but you have several remotes you do use to control your TV and movie-watching activities, I whole-heartedly recommend this or any other Harmony remote to you. It has fairly simple, web-based programming to allow you to integrate the control of up to fifteen devices into an activity-based set of commands. Watch TV? It will turn on the applicable devices and change the settings on each so you can change the station, view the guide, change the volume, etc. using just the buttons on one remote. Watch a DVD? same deal, plus all the menu, chapter skip, FF, RW, etc. commands. Listen to music? Ditto. Whether you listen to CDs, a radio station or some other source, all the control you need is programmed into one remote for ease of use. It simplifies the operation of a home theater for all members of the family. I am not new to Harmony remotes, having used several models over the last 15 years. For my purposes, they started going downhill after the Harmony One, introduced in 2008 and discontinued a few years later. My last One is starting to lose some of its numeric buttons, so, in spite of the less-than-stellar reviews I have read about the latest Harmony models, I decided to take advantage of a BB deal-of-the-day and order this unit. What I most objected to (based on reviews) was the lack of a numeric keypad, because I use it constantly to move around in the DirecTV guide. As I now know, the Ultimate One DOES have a numeric pad, just not using hard buttons. It is included as one of the screens accessible in the center lcd area. While not as convenient as hard buttons, it is pretty easy to get to and does work well. The Ultimate One is shaped quite differently than the old One, making it feel a little awkward in my hand, but I am getting used to it and expect this will be a non-issue shortly. Also, the button layout is very different than all the previous models I've used, so I still have to actually look at the remote to press the buttons I want, but that, too, is starting to get better. I do wish the 'off' button was a little farther away from the 'rewind' button, though. If you have never used a Harmony remote, none of this will bother you. If you have used previous models and are hesitant about switching to the new ones, I think you will be as pleasantly surprised as I am once you get used to the changes. The Ultimate One actually does have all the functionality of the older models, just with a different interface. It is too early for me to comment on its durability, but I suspect the number buttons that used to wear out on the older versions will continue to work on this model for as long as the lcd lights up. Bottom line, I expected this unit to be more difficult to use than what I am used to, and I expected to not like it. I am happy to say I was wrong on both counts. It IS different than the older models, but not worse. I'm actually starting to like it better.

Reasonable universal remote for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this remote to replace an BluLink PS3 remote that I had used for years with my home entertainment system. The major components are a 1080p Samsung HDTV, Yamaha Receiver and speakers, Comcast Xfinity X1 DVR Box and PS3 for streaming Netflix, MLB, and playing Blu Rays. The BluLink was designed specifically for the PS3 and pre-programmed. It could control up to 5 other devices. It had worked fine for about 5 years (but it couldn't control the DVR) and then started to hang up on the device functions whenever you turned it on. I ordered a new BluLink and it quickly developed the same issue (not sure why). I've been using the Ultimate One for about a month now and it works pretty well. It's not extremely easy to program, but the MyHarmony software is pretty straight forward, so it's easy enough to figure out. There are a couple weak points. It takes a while to load new setup configurations when you update to add an activity, add a device or change the favorite channel settings. The first time I had to stop the process and restart it, but then it has worked the couple times I've tried since without a problem. The only other complaint is that it takes a while to run through the macros it uses to execute "Activities" (starting and configuring multiple devices to watch TV or Netflix, etc. and even takes a while to change to favorite pre-programmed channels. . .you can see it run through the sequence of keying the channel number in and then hitting enter). You have to keep it aimed at the devices for the duration of this process or everything won't wind up working (something won't turn on, you'll get the wrong channel, etc). It is "one-button" control, but it's far from instantaneous. Also, If you plan to use it with a PS3 (or I assume PS4, XBOX, etc), it isn't directly compatible. You need to buy an additional adapter switch from Logitech that talks to the console. The PS3 adapter was no longer available buy the time I bought this remote, but I was able to find a refurbished one on Amazon for about $60. Other than that it works as advertised and is a reasonable solution for anyone looking to control 5-15 devices with a good amount of flexibility, as long as you are tech-savvy enough to navigate the setup.

Q: QuestionWill this control Amazon fire box?, or since the tv is now a 4k smart one, do I even need it?
Asked by Smitty.
- A:Answer Go to https://www.myharmony.com/en-us/ and select "Compatibility" then put in the manufacturers name and model number in the appropriate fields. Sony 65 4k tv Model XBR-65X850D is compatible. So is Amazon Alexa (Echo, Echo Dot) so you can use your voice to turn on the TV and many other functions that are normally available through the remote (with Harmony Remote + Hub). Just having 1 remote for the TV, the Sound bar, the stereo, and the Blue-Ray player has made my coffee table available for other things. That alone is worth it to me.

Q: QuestionIs this a rf system remote?
Asked by kk.
- A:Answer This is primarily an IR remote, but with the Hub and Wifi many "connected home" devices are compatible, from light switches to door locks. Go to https://www.myharmony.com/en-us/ and select "Compatibility" to see if your specific appliance can be controlled by the Harmony remote. I am always surprised by how many things it can control.

Q: Questionhow many macros can you program
Asked by satnut.
- A:Answer I honestly don't know... That's a really good question! We have programmed as many as 6 with no problems. (Many are in complex Theater Rooms) They work very well. Issues? You need to keep the Remote aimed at the Devises until all commands have been sent, or things get out of sync.
