Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien), along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, he decides against all logic to venture out to Aimee, despite all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way. What originally drew my attention to this fun flick was that it was about a journey from Fairfield, CA to Jenner, Ca on a quest for love. I live in between these locations in Sonoma County. Sure, it was filmed in Australia, but they tried to put in local objects, like Six Flags in Vallejo and the windmills not to far from Fairfield. Original story and great monsters. The CG is great. There's a great dog, and interesting people along the way. But, most of all, it has a BIG HEART!
This movie is good, I was going to say cute, but that’s not exactly what I wanted to be the description. I liked the special effects, on this movie. They weren’t over the top, but definitely not below the standards I have gotten used to. The story isn’t original, but it is entertaining and watchable. I am not a harsh critic of anyone’s work, since it takes a lot to get it made. I definitely recommend it, but on a stream not purchase, it’s good for a watch every now and then
