The best part about madden 18 is the story mode and franchise mode. What I enjoy about story mode, you get to play as Devin Wade as you try to help him to catch his NFL dream. You start off by playing at his high school then he goes to the university of Texas to play for the Longhorns. Devin Wade doesn’t have a great collage career. So he goes to the NFL Combine and preforms decently and then the scouts notice him. They tell him, “We’re going to put you on a show called Longshot.” He goes to Longshot and has to compete with four of the greatest quarterbacks to come out of collage. Devin Wade beats all four of them. Then Devin Wade gets drafted to the LA Rams in round seven of the NFL Draft. Franchise mode is always fun as you get to play as a player, coach, or owner. What makes franchise mode fun is how you get to create your player and let him be the best player in NFL history. I like to be a coach because you get to control your team and keep or release players. What I really like about franchise mode is you get to be an owner. As a owner, you control everything. Being an owner is fun because you get to relocate to a different city; I like that a lot. Those are my favorite parts about madden 18. I do have bad parts about madden 18 as well. I didn't like how they took out draft champions. Draft champions was fun because you get to draft your own team. Then after that you get to compete with people online. When you compete with people online, if you win you get some of there coins and if you lose then you owe them some of your coins. I like it because you get to compete with other people online that to me makes it fun. To me, what they could've done better with madden 18, is make defense more fun to play. I just felt like madden 18 is all offense and less defense. It’s really hard to pick off passes in madden 18 and recover fumbles. I don't even play defense, I just Super-Sim past defense to get to offense. I do like high scoring games but I do like to play defense as well. So I hope that when madden 19 comes out, they fix it so you can play more defense. And I wish they will bring back draft champions. I would like them to keep story mode, maybe Devin Wade part two with his good old buddy Colt Cruise. Thats my take on madden 18 .

I’m playing the normal Xbox one version, not the GOAT version. I am playing on a Sony 65inch 4K HDR tv, but I do not have a one S as i have a XB1X on pre order. The graphics are amazing aside from some weird issues where on screen presentations go through solid objects. Frankly i’m not sure how the game can look any better in 4K, it already looks amazing. The computer AI cheats as usual. While playing the Super Bowl game while it was installing the Patriots called 5 time outs in the final 2 minutes of the game. It didn’t help them win though,i was able to run out the clock, but still it’s annoying to watch the AI cheat plain as day. And yes, i am 100% sure they called 5. I have only played franchise mode and found it to be the same old same old mode, no real changes so far. I’ve only used the old passing scheme and found it to be spot on as usual, Matt Ryan to Julio Jones is money the majority of the time. The running game is easy, but there is no need to run as passing is so easy. If your a falcons fan you’ll be Happy to know the announcers bring up the Super Bowl loss all the time. Time and time again they say how ATL blew it with poor clock management, which we know to be true. It’s rather funny. The play by play is actually pretty good. But when i won the Super Bowl there was a good 2 to 3 minutes of no dialogue and players just celebrating. There was no Super Bowl MVP which was disappointing. When i skipped the halftime show the game announcer actually said seriously, who skips the halftime show in the Super Bowl. All in all if you love football and want to play a beautiful game you can’t go wrong. This is the best looking game in the series by far, i can only image how awesome it will look on the One X.

The move to the Frostbite Engine for Madden 18 is immediately noticeable. Jerseys, stadiums, the weather, and player facial and action animations are far crisper and dynamic than they have ever been in the Madden series. There's a new single player mode that is fine. MUT has evolved in the right direction with possible 3 on 3 matchups online. Franchise is pretty much the same as last year except for the options to commit yourself to one of 3 new Gameplay Styles: Arcade, Simulation, or Competitive. I spend most of my time with the Simulation mode and the AI has been pretty competitive and frustrating (in a good way) because the games really do have a great push and pull feel of momentum. You really have to play and scheme smart to win against the CPU in Simulation. I really enjoy this game. The only negative to me is that the Defense has been nerfed a lot. Especially in Simulation Gameplay. Great defensive players don't make as many great defensive plays as great Offensive players in this game. And the CPU running the ball will wreck you if you're not playing smart defense. As in, SPIN, SPIN, JUKE avoiding the first 1-3 tackles and disappearing for a touchdown. If it's a one on one tackling scenario, I start to cross my fingers in my head. I've tried to make up for it early by not pressing tackle until after they have performed the move. Anyway, it's annoying but not a gamebreaker. Updates will probably balance things out more. I really do miss the success of rushing the passer and field goal kickers. That responsiveness is gone from this year.

It was good but not great

If you notice most of the reviews were made before the game even came out. Kids making reviews based on hype. After I played the game for several days i came to my opinion of this game. The graphics were definitely an improvement and is almost worth the upgrade to 4k. The AI is still ultra human with some defensive plays. All in all the gameplay was definitely better and smooth. The game is completely updated with the new rules and the officials are quicker when challenged. The Longshot portion of the game could have been left out. That is the main reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5. It had to be the biggest waste of time you will ever have. Nothing in the Longshot will contribute to you later on. My biggest challenge was staying awake during the hundreds of cut scenes and useless mini games. Even Fifa2k17 version "The Journey" was better. Other than that the game was worth the money if you don't mind a minimal upgrade from last year.

Madden 18 is another installment in the series which provides a nice change up for my normal competitive gaming. Despite the changes that have been advertised regarding graphics and gameplay, the differences are somewhat undetectable from 17 to 18. Having said that, the game is still a fun experience to share with friends and a rare option for same screen multiplayer. I would predict the same trend previous entries of Madden have shown; the more seriously you take the game, the less likely you will enjoy it. Still pretty buggy, questionable AI, and filled with exploits. One bug ridden play can turn the tide of a game, ruining the contest. Plenty of these glitches can be found on youtube. The series seems to be at a crossroads of simulation and an arcade style experience.

The shift to the Frostbite Engine definitely lets Madden NFL 18 look fantastic, and Longshot makes great use of that to tell a short but powerful against-all-odds story. MUT Squads also opens up a new way to play with more than two players. But beyond that, the underwhelming feel of gameplay improvements and lack of much of anything new within Franchise, Madden NFL 18 sails wide-right in the final seconds. That said, being a much better-looking version of a solid football game with a great new story mode makes it at least a significant improvement, even if it’s more incremental than we’d hoped from a new game engine.

Big thing that sets this year's Madden apart are the move to a new engine (FrostBite, the same one that Battlefield uses) and a new story mode. Both are fantastic additions. Frostbite makes everything look just a touch more realistic, and Longshot is actually very well written and acted. Also something I thought I'd mention is that online Co-op is back: it's stupid that this great feature was ever taken out in the first place, so it deserves to be mentioned that it's back in now. I also think it's very fitting that the best QB of this generation is the cover boy for the best Madden this generation.

As a purchaser of madden every year I have to tip my hat to ea with their fine work in madden 18. The run game has been revitalized and efficient unlike past versions that were prone to exclusively passing games. The graphics are phenomenal the constant roster updates and tweaks are great. The game plays very lifelike and doesn't feel as much as an arcade game. lots of fun features with ultimate team and draft champions coming back. Best new feature is Mut squads allowing you and 2 friends to play online on same team against 3 other people. Loads of fun and content included.
