After years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping a criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Mafia III has promise in terms of voice acting & the short amount of story I encountered, but the game is so loose feeling and glitchy that I lost interest after two hours of playing. It's hard not to compare to GTA V, a game that came out three years ago, which has more depth and attention to detail than Mafia III. Not to mention better controls overall. I knocked over a chair in Lincoln's (your character) room and it flopped around for two minutes, even when I was standing on the other side of the room. The enemy AI is hardly intelligent. You can stand up from cover and they just stand there looking at you. Not to mention they repeat the same lines over and over - "I'm gonna find you!" - "I'm throwing a Molotov" - Gee, thanks for the heads-up buddy. The weather goes crazy (sunny, clouds, sunny, rain, sunny) all within a few seconds. Enemies sometimes turn into boards when you kill them, if they don't fall through a wall or floor that is. You can read more into these bugs elsewhere, but from someone that purchased on day one, I'm sorry I didn't research enough. Hold off on Mafia III for a few months if you're really interested in the setting (cool place btw) and premise. There's too much else coming out this Fall/Winter to play an unfinished game like this.

So i picked up this game knowing it was hit by critics as being repetitive. I got this for a great deal while on sale and figured to give it a shot. Pros: Story - The best part of this game is the story. Great voice acting and the story makes sense! I am very invested in the story. The protagonist is very believable and you feel empowered playing as him. Gameplay - The gun play is great here. Reminds me of Max Payne 3. It is very pleasing! A variety of weapons and upgrades (albeit simple) add some variety. Graphics - The graphics fake you out nicely. While i find the game actually has a fair amount of rough edges, tearing and other issues, the game does a good job of showing a visually appealing town. Cons - To be honest, just one.....repetition. The game puts you in many situations (flipping racket bosses / informants, interrogating guys, saving others, destroying properties and gangs). However the way this is implemented is all the same. That said, the reptitive time you have is fun. Despite being a gamer who usually only plays a title at a time, i recommend playing this game along another title. You may find that you get a little bored at times and need to break the monotony up with something else. Summary - The Mafia series always struggled with gameplay. The story was always rock solid and the immersion is excellent. But the lack of creativity really shows, and it is disheartening.

Mafia 3 is sort of a Grand Theft Auto clone. Plenty of side missions as well as the main story line. Game graphics are very good. Vehicle driving is a bit Arcady and the vehicles take damage, but not much for the collisions you encounter. You can select different driving views from cockpit to behind distances. This is NOT a game for kids. Its full of Racism, Bad Language ( and the developers do warn you of this prior to playing it ) But this only adds to the games storyline. There are all kinds of collectibles, including Music Album Covers, Hot Rod Magazines ect., BUT... you will find yourself searching for the 50 Playboy magazines ( each having a actual real Nude picture to view !!!! ) as well as numerous exotic nude "Vargas" drawings laying around throughout the city. This game has brutal murders with graphic knife kills, cutscenes and gun kills. You can upgrade and customize your vehicles and choose from many different weapons that a weapons dealers will deliver to your location in a van. While driving vehicles, you have radio stations playing which you can choose from and the soundtracks are AMAZING!!! One of the best of any game I've ever played. I enjoyed just pulling the car over to the side of the road to listen to the whole song at times....its that good!!! Overall I highly recommended this game. I bought it at Best Buy for $24.99 and its worth every penny.

I'm a little late on the Mafia trilogy, and late tapping into this monster hype. However, I must say, I'm not to thrilled about it or upset I waited. Previous Mafia games have received similar if not much of the same reviews. But...this game just doesn't have. It's lack luster physics, weapons aiming, and mediocre graphics, which resemble something closer to PS3 doesn't quite do it. The story line is on point, with a solid dialogue, but at times is a bit drawn out. Almost as if they added longer dialogue just to give the appearance of a game that requires days on gameplay. However, the story is good, but the missions are one dimensional...in other words very direct, with very little degree of open world exploring, and little complexity. It's simple missions, that don't require much thought or high level experience. The controls aren't the greatest setup either, but it's certainly not the worse. The game has something to offer for the "story mood" savvy enthusiasts with a great story line. But, it deflates as you play further along with the terrible physics, simplistic missions, and mediocre graphics. Can't say exciting, is the word I would use but I'd certainly associated with time waster or sub-par adventure. Maybe I'm just not the Mafia-esque type players. I'd have to say pass on this sub-par experience, and dabble in risking your money on the next game on your list. Hope this helps..GAME ON!

I enjoyed this game. The writing is good. The characters are great (from the impressive voice acting to the precise mouth movement). The atmosphere is superb. It's almost like you become a black man living in 1960s New Orleans. People are racist and kick you out of shops while almost everyone has something to say about the main protagonist's race. No sugar-coating here. Also, I personally loved the driving and combat mechanics of this game. On the other hand, game play does get too repetitive. After a while, you are left grinding just to get to that next cutscene that furthers the plot and makes the game shine. This repetitiveness hinders your enjoyment of the game. To make things worse, the ai is somewhat robotic in their predictability. While it is fun sneaking around, choking out unknowing victims, then suddenly erupting into a huge firefight, there is literally no suspense as you know exactly what they will do next. Truthfully, the game would have been rather short if it weren't for the grind. All in all, however, I was pleased with this purchase. There are multiple endings, and the after-credits just make me more excited for the next installment of Mafia.

An excellent story marred by gameplay issues

Let me start off by saying that the storyline of the game is fantastic. The game manages to explore social issues in a meaningful way that's deeper than anything I can think of at the moment. IF ONLY 2K spent a few more months working out bugs before releasing it. The game crashed twice during missions, and there were numerous cover glitches and weird physics problems. Hopefully a patch will be released soon, although I've already beaten the game so it won't really affect me. Also, don't expect state of the art graphics. GTA 5 is two years older for the PS4 and is superior in graphics and gameplay, so if you are expecting a GTA clone, this isn't the game for you. Don't judge the graphics by the cutscenes as they are pre rendered (which inevitably means that if its night when you get to the cutscene it will be daytime during it). I will say the cars are more realistic than GTA 5 in terms of handling and driving, but as far as detail and damage, they don't look much better than Mafia 2. Another important note is the missions can be a bit repetitive. Overall I would say the game is worth playing, but only if you get it for less than $60. I have gamer's club unlocked so I got it for $48. I'd wait for a black friday deal, and hopefully they will have made glitch fixes by then.

I have been Mafia fan since the release of the first Mafia. The story was always the main attraction of the Mafia games and Mafia 3 is no different. Characters are interesting and the setting is amazing. The main protagonist "Lincon Clay" is a very interesting character, and the period this game takes place is full of history and turmoil. The main problems with this game are two: 1) Glitches: it is 2016 and this game is full of glitches. 2) Missions are repetitive: you either assassin someone, steal something or destroy something. I know it is an open-world game, but come on you can do better. Final note, the graphics of the game sometimes are good and other times are washed out. Also, the combat mechanics are really simple. I turned my setting to hard and still the enemies were easy to kill. Generally, AI in this game was really unintelligent. Only during a few occasions when the enemies attempted to flank me. If you like a good story and interesting characters, this is the game for you. If you are a GTA fan, this is not GTA. The activities in this games are less entertaining than GTA and there is no online.

Mafia III has a few flaws which can be forgiven because the story, music, gameplay, and the overall experience is better than most open world games (besides GTA of course). If you can look past repetitiveness and a couple non game breaking bugs (which don't pop up that often) it's a great game! Pros: Great Story Highly Detailed Map Great Characters Good Combat Good Driving Good Stealth Great Music that will get you hooked Assigning underbosses rackets and districts is satisfying Great collectibles You get to kill racists Cons: Mission Repetitiveness Mission Variety Game Crashes (Only experienced 3) The only animals in the game are crocodiles and they are only in the water Dumb Cops No motorcycles You can't jump (you can climb though) You can't buy clothes (You do change outfits in a few missions though) Not everything is explained as it should be Some side missions are glitched and appear before they should waiting your time Small bugs that didn't change the experience Final score: 80%
