Regardless of your taste in music, your socio-economic status, your gender/race/education, et. al, anyone who is anyone can appreciate the licks that are laid down on this (Metallica's Self Titled) Album. To say this is their best album is a stretch (the bar is set very high for these guys) but it's the hidden gems (that didn't reach the Billboard) that make the "The Black Album", a must-have. Oh yeah, there's 'Enter Sandman', 'The Unforgiven', 'Sad But True', 'Wherever I May Roam'. I think the album is still in the Top 100 of the Billboard Top 200, nearly 30 years after it's release (in 1991). Just sayin'.

25 Million Buyers Can't Be Wrong!

This is the easiest Metallica CD to buy because they changed their approach and made some more radio-friendly music. It was the right album for them at the right time, as it jettisoned them into the mainstream pop culture. It probably was the reason that they survived Grunge, too. Why, then, did it take me over 25 years to buy this CD? I guess I was just waiting for the right time. I didn't want to be a bandwagon fan. Haha! By now, we've all heard almost every song on this disc, so there's not much to say. It's also sold 25 Million copies! (25,000,001 now that I bought mine.) I think that should about do it for this review. Now go bang your head somewhere!!

While this was a strong album, Bob Rock ruined the band with this one. He meddled too much and poisoned the band's own methods which had worked well for the past 4 releases. Anyway, I only like the closet songs on here since radio killed all the popular ones for me that I can't stand to hear much ever. The God that Failed is likely the strongest tune on here to me, and Through the Never is well done too. The 5 that the radio killed need no mention, Of Wolf and Man makes little sense to me and just doesn't fit the rest of em. Sadly after this release, the band just chit the bed and hasn't ever recovered to me.

"Metallica" or more commonly known as "The Black Album" is almost, on its own, a collection of the band's greatest "mainstream" hits. Yes, Metallica's other albums are incredible, and in the eyes of many, including myself, better than the Black Album. But, there is no bad track on this album. From start to finish, it is fantastic. This album represents why people used to buy an entire album, rather than just downloading two or three songs off of itunes, like many people do now. This is actually a copy to replace my original, which I have digitally, but the physical copy was ruined, so I bought it again.

Metallica always had a sense for mixing melody and distorted guitars, and their self-titled album showcases those talents -- only now in slower-tempo songs. The band's previous four albums are heralded by so-called hardcore fans as their best, but the black album fits perfectly into their top works of art. My friends and I used to listen to this album on tape when it came out in '91, and buying this on CD means it will hopefully not suffer the same fate as fragile cassettes can when they are not cared for properly.

While it's argued that 'Master of Puppets' is the best album Metallica recorded, no one can argue that their self-titled album, commonly referred to as 'The Black Album', will be the release that they are remembered for. With mega hits like "Enter Sandman", "Wherever I May Roam", "Nothing Else Matters" and "The Unforgiven", this is an outstanding album in a long career of one of the most influential and popular metal bands. Such a great album with all songs very memorable and always fantastic.

This is Metallica's best album! The physical CD that I bought at Best Buy has a digital glitch. When I try to download it to my iTunes, it won't transfer the last 5 songs. Tried several times. I went and bought the same CD at a store closer to home, and it all transferred just fine. Had to throw away my CD I bought at Best Buy. I live too far away to waste the gas to return a $5 CD.

This album exemplifies metal. I first listened to it when I was a teenager, and my appreciation for it has only grown. I have no doubt that my children, their future children, their future children, etc will continue to listen to the songs on this album, and will keep on rocking!
