Customers regard the Surface Headphones 2 as a comfortable and stylish product with excellent noise cancellation and long battery life. They appreciate the intuitive controls and the ability to connect to multiple devices. However, some users have expressed concerns about the microphone quality and the lack of bass in the audio.
I have been wondering for a time as to which headphones to purchase. I own a pair of wireless earbuds, but countless reviews stated that headphones are completely different so I finally decided to buy a pair. I was never looking for heavy bass, complete nosie isolation with all the bells and whistles. The Surface Headphones 2 surprised my expectations as opposed to the popular brands of Sony, and Bose. These headphones are underrated, and will go unnoticed cuz of negative biased reviews and not enough time spent with them. Comfort, sound, design and portability are all present with this device. If more cusumers purchased and reviewed them, word will get back to Microsoft for tweaks or an all around improved version at a steady, affordable price. For another go around, provide more colors options, along with more battery life. Keep the 3.5mm jack option, physical mute button, touch controls, multi device connect, volume, and noise cancellation dials. Overall, glad I know I made the right purchase. Thanks Microsoft, and Best Buy.

These headphones are well built and the sound quality is decent. I am not an audiophile so take it with a grain of salt. I am satisfied with the battery life, does give about 16-18 hours and even the bluetooth connection felt strong. And the dial to adjust sound is really very good. I wish other headphones had that too. I, however, felt that the audio output (mic) could have been a bit better.

I received the new Surface Headphones 2 as part of the Microsoft Device Trial Program and have been using them for almost a week now. After charging them with the included USB-C cable, the setup was super easy. Pairing them with my Android smartphone and my Windows 10 laptop went very smoothly. The bluetooth range is great, walking around the house, even on a different floor away from the phone or laptop the connection remained stable. They are comfortable and soft around the ears, not too tight. The headband could use a little more padding or a softer cushion, but it's still OK to wear for hours. From the moment you turn them on, a voice tells you how many hours of battery life is left which is a very useful feature. I've used them on and off for several hours and had them on stand-by for a few days and still have 15-hours left out of the 20-hours when fully charged. The carrying case is larger than other competing brands, but flatter, because they don't fold, the ear cups just turn flat both facing up side by side. See attached picture comparing the cases with competing headphones from Sony and Samsung/AKG which I also own. In my opinion the Sony's are slightly more plush/comfortable and the AKGs offer slightly more dynanic bass and highs for hip-hop/pop music, but I still prefer the Surface Headphones 2 for daily mixed use between my work laptop and phone with their excellent multi-device bluetooth paring. Sound quality is great for conversations, and very good for music, not as much deep bass as other more expensive competitors. The Surface Audio app is surprisingly well developed with lots of useful features. It has an Equalizer with presets for Flat, Classical, Jazz, Pop and Rock. Fully customizable sliders for Low, Mid Low, Mid, Mid High and High sound frequencies. You can create and save your own custom profile. Under Device Info, you can also see the numeric volume level, the Battery life in hours and the Noise Cancellation mode. There are basically 4 levels which also get spoken to you when there is no music playing: None - Ambient sound amplified; Low - Pass-thru Sound; Medium - Pass-thru Sound; High - Maximum Noise Cancellation. If you take them off and put them down on the desk while you're listening to music, they automagically pause the track and resume playing once you put them back on, so you won't miss a beat. I left the best for last - my favorite feature is the terrific controls on the ear cups - the best of all worlds. Microsoft incorporated the most intuitive controls among their competion. Both ear cups have the popular touch areas for tap once, twice, three times to play/pause music, next track/answer/end call, previous track and touch and hold to activate digital assistant or decline a call. Additionally they have smooth manual turning dials that control volume on the right side and noise cancellation on the left side. Last but not least, aside from the power button, there is a mute button on the right side that comes in handy during conference calls. All in all, these have become my go-to headphones for daily mixed-use for work and play.
