Just a disclaimer: I love Apple product and have had them for a long time, but am now slowly making the switch BACK to Windows. Read further if you're an Apple owner on the fence about switching over. I agree with the first reviewer as well. Overall, a great laptop, and can handle mostly everything you throw at it (except heavy video editing or something graphic intensive), however, you must remember this laptop isn't made for that type of work. I did a lot of research on this laptop before purchasing and am definitely glad I did. I have been waiting a while for a good laptop to come out because all the other brands seem to do much of the same, and unfortunately, Apple has left their "prosumers" behind by putting in sub par components or lacking innovation. So, for the Surface Laptop: Very well designed, clean, and what we call nowadays as "Apple" like quality. The screen is amazing, clear, bright, and color accurate. And the touch gestures as well as interacting with Windows 10 works very well. Keyboard took a few hours to get used to because I was used to the Macbook Pro, but it definitely feels great and superior to the new Macbook Pro keys that feel very unnatural. The only bummer I'd have to say about this laptop is the lack of ports. Like who uses a Display port anymore? They should have just put a USB-C port there instead or another USB port. Performance wise, I haven't put it through the loops yet, but working with Adobe Creative products (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc) have been pretty smooth so far. I treat this laptop as my day to day laptop instead of my powerhouse (currently my old macbook pro). I am waiting for the new Surface Book 2 or a higher powered Microsoft device before I make the move. But I can say with confidence that I am definitely a Surface customer now. The build quality for Windows is refreshing.

You can probably tell by my review summary, that I'm a big fan of this laptop. Now, it's true that if all you're concerned with is price-to-performance, this is not the best value for your money. There are other laptops (like the HP Spectre x360) that are a much better value proposition. Don't get me wrong, this machine is very capable and aside from running some extremely heavyweight applications (AutoCAD or rendering a lot of video), you'll be just fine with most everything you can throw at it. Just for context, do a lot of Web browsing, Word and Excel work, and also Web/Software development mostly in Visual Studio and PhpStorm and this thing handles all those tasks with ease. The real value of the Surface line is in it's premium feel and extra attention to detail. The keyboard is really good and typing while resting your hands on the Alcantara fabric just feels premium. The screen is also very good. Even though the resolution is less than the Surface Pro's resolution (I have the Pro 4), you really can't tell the difference. It does seem to be a bit brighter than the Pro 4's screen too. Battery life is also great. I've been using this laptop at work where the WiFi signal is not great, but this thing never drops the connection and the battery lasts my entire day with juice to spare. I can go on and on about how much I really love this laptop. If you're in the market for a premium laptop, give this machine a serious look. You'll be glad you did. P.S. the Cobalt Blue looks absolutely awesome!!!! It looks a little metallic grey depending on the angle you're looking at it, but awesome nonetheless.

When I walked into the store, I certainly didn't expect to pull the trigger and buy a laptop. I spoke with multiple associates, played with all of the options, and I ultimately settled on this. I could not be happier with my decision. As far as the basics are concerned, on paper it looks "good" but nothing amazing. The processor is "only" the 7th generation Intel series, and you pay a little bit for the Microsoft brand, but don't get caught up on that. I'll also tell you now that the fit and finish of these laptops just might be superior to the Macbook lineup. The laptop is super responsive and it weighs next to nothing. The screen is bright and has a high-resolution, and although it might be a bit small for some, I think it's a great balance of size and portability. The battery life is amazing: I could probably get over 12 hours on a single charge if I tried. In addition to having solid general specs, there are a few standout features of the Surface lineup. This laptop supports Surface Pen and Dial (although it doesn't come with either) and has 10-finger multi-touch, which I find surprisingly useful. It stays connected to Wi-Fi even when asleep, which is also nice. The fabric keyboard looks stunning and is warm to touch. Windows Hello signs on with an infrared scan of your face if you choose, which is incredibly fast and painless. Lastly, the charging cable is held magnetically, so it won't damage the charger or laptop if it were to get yanked out at a bad angle. Think MagSafe, but a slightly improved design. That's not to say there isn't room for improvement. It would be nice if there were more ports. USB-C would also be nice. An option for cellular connectivity would be great as well. Those are my only complaints, and none of them really impact the way I use my laptop and I assume the majority of consumers probably wouldn't be bothered either. Overall, this is an amazing laptop. Absolutely no regrets.

      The Perfect Macbook Alternative

I needed a new laptop for light work and school since I quit gaming and sold my desktop. I was headed to Best Buy to possibly purchase the New 2017 Macbook with the 256GB SSD for $1499. I decided to look at few windows machines before I headed to the little Apple section at my store. I saw this surface laptop and it had the specs I wanted, which was a 7th gen i5 and a 256gb SSD. I saw the price and was impressed by the build, screen, and keyboard. I did a quick google search on my phone to look at the reviews and they were all positive. It had everything I needed compared to the Macbook at $200 less. After comparing the two, I couldnt justify paying an extra $200 for the Macbook, which has a faster SSD and a higher end i5/integrated graphics as well as a brighter screen. These were small things you would not notice compared to the Surface laptop other then the SSD transfer speeds. You get a touch screen with the Surface laptop and I think the keyboard feels more natural then the Macbook's. The speakers on both machines get surprisingly loud and clear from such small laptops. Anyways, I left the store with the Surface laptop and am very happy with my purchase. Microsoft made a great machine that's on par to compete with the macbooks!

Outer build: Compared to its rivals, Microsoft Surface Laptop screen resolution shows content in a closer manner. As other laptops usually have 1920x1080, this 3:2 ratio really makes reading books or surfing on websites comfortable. If you don't like to read small letters and like your screen with more content then I'd recommend this laptop. As I love to see high quality photos in my screen/background, this laptop's resolution makes the letters refined without getting to the degree that strains my eyes. The black border of the screen is evenly distributed and thin to the point that it is not a bother and does not feel like it takes up a lot of screen space. In terms of Mousepad and keyboard, I think Mac win over Microsoft. The feel of Mac's keyboard is different and more consistent, whereas the surface has a little wobbly keys. The keyboard lit in this laptop is badly made. It is not balanced over all the keys and you can locate the light-bulbs from the strong lights emitted under certain keys. It is very light and good looking. I carry it around my backpack throughout the day without any shoulder or back stress. Inner build: I bought this to use it for college work and engineering. I would not suggest you buying this if you plan to run 3 or more heavy programs on this. It will run, but you might have to wait 2sec. often if you were heavy loading it. For its price and specs, this laptop is more for everyday uses (email, write essays, web searches) with all the comfort and beauty you need. I chose this because I'll spend more time reading and writing than doing heavy computing. If I had to do heavy computing, I'll just recur to the pcs that the college provides.

After been a mac user for so long I decided to give windows a try, it wasn't easy due to the fact that there are lots of great choices in windows world to choose from, so I had to do some research to find my MacBook pro replacement and I nailed it with the Surface laptop, It is on par or just above apple built quality, it takes some time getting used to windows but it's actually very simple, windows 10 worked great from the start but after getting some updates it's even better fast and fluid all the time nothing I usually use has slowed it down at all , just out of curiosity I opened edge browser with 9 open tabs in four of them I ran youtube "4k" streams simultaneously while I ran excel, Spotify, mail, windows store and some other programs and the thing never slowed down one bit, touchpad works great, love windows hello.screen is great the touch screen is growing on me, battery life is awesome, so far I have no regrets and no complains about it. I will stick with Microsoft programs, mail, edge etc. on my Surface just like I did with my MacBook by only using apple programs to ensure smooth performance, I also switched to edge browser on my iPhone to synchronize my passwords and internet stuff. Also one more pro to consider is that the charging plug is magnetic which to me it's awesome I loved that on my MacBook pro and I hated it that apple did away with it in the newer macbooks.

      Surface Laptop Cobalt Blue

I am absolutely in love with my Microsoft Surface Laptop. I purchased the Cobalt Blue i5 Model and have had no issues. I am perfectly happy with Windows 10 S and have no need for programs. The Windows App store has improved with adding major Apps like Spotify and I know the store will continue to grow. If you do need to install full programs, you can get Windows 10 Pro for free until the end of the year. After that it will cost $49.00 which is still cheaper than the original License price of $199.99. Plus it comes with a free year of Office 365 personal!! The Surface Laptop is a beauty to behold and has everyone's head turning like it's an expensive car driving on the road. I have previously owned a Surface RT, Surface 2, Surface Pro 2, Surface 3 and currently own a Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book with Performance Base. I have to say though that the Surface Laptop has blown me away. Microsoft hit the ball out of the park with this one!! I totally recommended this device no matter where you purchase it from. Just a heads up, Plan on spending a bit more on an extended warranty as this device is not easily fixable. It will be worth it, trust me!

This laptop certainly has its own position among the best laptops out there. It does not really stand out in any special category, but the total package is nevertheless an awesome machine. Pros: 1. Best in class build quality. This machine is constructed out of a single piece of aluminum. There is no screw, no seam whatsoever. The whole machine has no gap or removable parts except the hinge. Top-notch build quality, even better than the macbook pro I would say. 2. Good performance with no noticeable heat. I got the core I5 with 8GB RAM. The machine just runs flawlessly with no hiccup. I use it for programming and school projects. It did serve me well. 3. Good typing experience This machine provides good keyboard travel and experience. No complains here. 4. Good display and long battery life Display is really good. This machine's aspect ratio allows better web surfing experience than 16-9 ratio from other laptops. Battery lasts me all day. However, it takes up to 3 hours to fully charge from 0 to 100. Cons: 1. Pricing This laptop is typical Microsoft machine. It does not come cheap. 512Gb option costs an arm and a leg compared to similar hardware machines from HP and Dell (HP Spectre x360 2017 and even Dell XPS 13 2017) 2. OS Windows 10S is a no-no here. I have to update to Windows 10 pro for better productivity.
