    Horrible mouse, doesn't work consistently

This is the most unreliable mouse I have ever used. It works about 75% of the time, I am returning it. I bought it specifically because it was designed for the Microsoft Surface notebook that I recently bought, but apparently Microsoft doesn't understand how to pair the mouse with the computer so that it works consistently. The first time it quit working I spent an hour or so online with a Microsoft rep who couldn't speak English well and had to repeat each instruction several times so that I could understand. Eventually it was fixed through this phone call after installing updates. This is another Microsoft flaw, because Microsoft set the computer up to automatically install updates, but this feature doesn't work either. I have owned it for less than 30 days, and during that time I have had to delete and unpair the mouse, pair it again, and usually restart the computer. I have had to go through this process 4 or 5 times already. Just this morning, I had to delete and unpair, then pair the mouse up again three times before it would work. A complete waste of time. NOTE: I am not using any other bluetooth devices with the Microsoft Surface, so this problem is not created by multiple devices that might interfer with each other.

Bought this specifically because of its Bluetooth capability...I have a Surface (the regular version, not a pro) that I use a USB keyboard with, so I had to go Bluetooth for the mouse. No setup required for this - it seemed to work automatically with the Surface. Worked like a charm for the one intense week that I used my Surface like it was a laptop. Particularly liked that it is the size of a real mouse, not a half-sized mouse like most other travel-friendly brands of cordless mice (mouses?) that I saw on the shelves. It is sleek and very comfortable in the hand, just the right weight, too. Docked a star from the review because there doesn't seem to be a way to turn the mouse off to conserve battery when I'm done using it either at the end of the day or when moving around. I.e., I literally had to remove the lid and take out a battery every time I needed to move to a different table, otherwise it would wake up my Surface. (This, versus my beloved Logitech track ball which has an on/off switch, but is, alas, wireless USB and not Bluetooth.) Long story short, if you've got a Surface and are in the market for a Bluetooth mouse, this is a very good choice.

Not As Good As My $25 Mouse

I got this so I could use it with my Surface Pro 4 when it is docked. I had seen it online and thought that I could use this with the SP4 along with the Mac mini I have on my desk. I have had wireless keyboards and mice before on various computers over the last decade. Unfortunately, this mouse was disappointing out of the box. The challenge is that the scroll wheel is extremely hard to move. It takes a lot of effort to get it to scroll. I have multiple $20 and $25 mice which work better in this regard. I did not take this mouse back mainly when I bought it, I didn't get around to setting up the system so I could use it with the Surface Pro 4 docked until six months after I bought it. I don't know if this is a fluke or if all the Surface mice are like this. All I know is if I knew the scrolling wheel was so hard to use, I would never bought this. Now I use a $25 Logitech mouse which works just fine. This Surface mouse is in the box in the closet. Before you buy this, be sure to test it out at the store. If this scroll wheel wasn't so hard to use, I would give this a better rating and probably be using it today.

The more I use this mouse, the more l like it. I was resigned to using one of my two USB ports for a mouse, so was pleasantly surprised to find that it is a Bluetooth mouse. It installed as soon as the computer recognized it. I thought at one time that I needed to replace the single AAAA battery (actually, I didn't need to) and was resigned to figuring out how to open the compartment. It couldn't have been easier - it required no tools, only one hand, and no searching for a notch. Just a little pressure on the plate and it was open. It was just as easy to replace with one hand. Again, no visible notches. It felt magnetic (I don't know this for sure) but totally secure when it was closed up again. It looks a bit too big, but fits my hand just fine, and my wife's considerably smaller hand.

This is honestly just a mouse that is purchased to match your preexisting Surface setup. The lack of dedicated back and forward buttons, something I have grown accustomed to is a little jarring. It has the same premium feel as the keyboard and Surface Book. The mouse has the same reliability as I have come to expect from Microsoft technology. I really enjoy the minimalist aesthetic, but the lack of functionality leaves me wanting more. I would recommend to a friend only if they were a completionist and just had to have it to finish their setup, like I did. But, if you want a mouse with a lot of bells and whistles, this is not the mouse. For my purposes however, it is excellent!

Ordered online when first available as to trying to find a silver mouse is tough these days, it's my favorite color instead of boring black. Fast shipping from Best Buy, so did not see actual product until I received it yesterday. Have to admit I was really disappointed in the drab shade of grey/silver color of the mouse, Come on Microsoft, dress it up a little for the price (pretty pricey). Not Best Buy's fault, they didn't manufacture it. Yes, it is bluetooth, otherwise nothing to brag about when it comes to the "silver" color. Depends what you are looking for but beware this thing will not win any beauty contests! Yet some people may like as it is functional, no real issues there.

I bought this mouse to use with my new Dell Inspiron laptop. It goes great together with any laptop not just a Surface tablet. So far it works perfectly. I tried an HP bluetooth mouse at first and it would freeze up and lose responsiveness a lot, but the Surface Mouse is very smooth and responsive all the time. The scroll wheel feels nice with just the right amount of resistance. The mouse looks nice and is compact so you can easily pack it inside a laptop case but big enough for somebody with large hands like me to still get a grip on.

Microsoft Surface only has one USB port, so I didn't want to use that port for a USB wireless mouse. I purchased an off-brand Bluetooth mouse, an it didn't work on a number of surfaces (e.g. couch arm, glass table, gloss coffee table top). So far, I have not found a surface this mouse has not worked well on. The only negative that I have experienced (and not a big negative) is that for my liking the mouse buttons require a little more pressure to push than I would like. After using it for a while, my mouse fingers get a bit tired. But as I mentioned not a big negative.
