    Best Tablet Money can buy!

I'm an Apple fanboy and still am however, I changed jobs and now I'm a Mortgage Loan Officer with a small broker and they use a processing system called LQB and it's a cloud based app. Unfortunately it doesn't work with MacOS or else you wouldn't find me here. I absolutely love my Late 2012 MacBook Pro 13" Retina display. For a while, I was thinking about switching to the new MacBook Pro's but I didn't want to go with the "none touchbar" model. The model I wanted would cost me over $2k and I wasn't ready for that. That being said, I decided to buy a Surface Pro bc I needed something that's portable and uses IE11 bc that's the program we need to use to operate our processing program called LQB. My boss lets me work from home sometimes and I couldn't do much but answer emails bc I didn't have a Windows computer. When I was searching for a Laptop, I didn't like what was out there so I decided to give the Surface Pro a try bc I love the fact that it is a tablet and with the keyboard, turns into a laptop. I've only had the SP4 for a few days and I have no complaints about the computer, or do you call it a laptop. or do you call it a tablet? Well, whatever you call it, it is the perfect solution for me. It's big enough to do the job I want it to do and it's compact enough for me to bring to work everyday. I love the keyboard, but I don't like the fact you have to buy it separately. I think it should be included when you buy the tablet bc it's relatively useless without the keyboard bc using the onscreen keyboard is just plan stupid unless you are just drawing on it all the time and all the notes that you take are handwritten notes. If that's the case, I would suggest that you go with an Apple iPad Pro 12.9". It's bigger and better than the SP4 if you're just going to do drawing or taking notes and don't need the MS Office applications. Overall, I would take the SP4 over the iPad Pro bc of my needs. I also like the keyboard better than the keyboard they offer you with Apple's iPad Pro 12.9". I know bc I have one of those too. Before this laptop, I was only an Apple user and it's served me well over the years until now. My job forced me to upgrade to an Windows laptop which is fine. I love it and I can't ask for a better device. If you're on the fence, buy it and try it out. You'll love the keyboard and everything else about the laptop. Esp since it's so compact and easy to carry around with you. I'm not so sure I like the battery on this laptop but it's probably bc the keyboard is connected to the tablet and it uses lights which in turn uses up battery. THat's where it separate it from a laptop but the battery is still not that bad. If I use it solely as a tablet it is about the same as the iPad Pro but if you use it with the keyboard, then I would say it's about a 75% difference which isn't bad. Just get the darn thing!

I think you can over-research a product, but eventually you need to narrow down the true purpose of a product like a tablet. Originally, I wanted an ipad to use for internet browsing and playing stupid poker games. Then I saw this could be a secondary computer/laptop offering dual functions. The reviews for the PC computing part of the surface and the gaming features are pretty critical, not to mention that relying upon a small screen to do many excel or word documents is not ideal. If you're looking for a solid laptop or gaming machine, your really need to buy for those purposes. For my purpose, really it was either this or an ipad. And since this does have pc capabilities in a pinch, I choose this one because of the dual functions and better value. I saw complaints about the screen occasionally blacking out, and experienced this, but it was a brief moment that was not a big deal. The picture is great, the internet speed is terrific, and I now have a really handy tablet that I can use while sitting on the couch (table style, in my lap), or on my kitchen counter and prop up with it's stand and keyboard and easily answer emails without punching little buttons on my iphone. It's a great little product as long as you are honest with your needs. While there are so many products out there that do multiple tasks, the reality is that unless you lower your expectations, you really should buy products that meet your specific needs-which means buying separate components. In the end, that's the right answer and probably less costly in the long run than replacing the same component over and over.

Overall, this device performs exactly how I'd like it. It isn't a desktop but it is definitely powerful enough and has a great battery which is all I could hope for for a tablet. This is by far the best tablet I have ever had. Apart from the inability to upgrade and a couple things with the touch screen, this device is flawless. Make sure to go through the device and get rid of any unnecessary software and turn off start-up programs that you do not need. This device couples very well with the Microsoft keyboards. I wish the keyboard itself could have deeper clicks on the keyboard but I've been spoiled by gaming keyboards. Otherwise, the screen is very bright and many documents and PDFs work perfectly. I would highly suggest to purchase the surface pen or whichever device you'd like to use because this tablet was BUILT to be used in that way. Microsoft OneNote and Excel are great to work on with this device. I should note that I waited until a couple generations passed until I decided to purchase this device; there are far too many bugs and problems with the initial versions that I believe needed to be ironed out before making the decision. I believe that time is now with this generation. I highly suggest also to get more than the 4GB of RAM and programs are becoming more and more intensive as time goes by. This device is made to get work done and I have had no problems since purchasing (1 month). I anticipate problems to occur but for the time being I am giving this device a 5/5 rating. Will update accordingly as time goes by.

I have my surface hooked up to the Microsoft dock (latest Gen) along with 2 samsung monitors via HDMI cables, keyboard, mouse and an iphone cable to charge my phone when im at my desk. Primary use is stock trading, multiple charts at once, youtube in the background, forums posting/streaming and netflix every other night. I had this through my last years of school in my backpack with the type cover. When my friends had their laptops out on the desk with no room for a book I was able to fit my book with this on my desk. Very user friendly, light on weight and small on size but packs alot of power. Performance is what you would expect from SSD drives and an i5 CPU, instant on and ready to roll, multitasking is nice with no lag in speed or performance you will only be limited to the battery if your not near a wall outlet. I have not had a problem with this computer coming from a macbook pro I knew what i wanted in terms of performance and quality, with the surface I get everything I need and more

I am shocked how terrible this tablet is. I was prepared for glitches. There always are. But the number of bugs I have to fix and research online is truly incredible. I use MS on a day to day basis in work and on my laptop. I also use an iPad and MacBook I am more efficient on MS though. That said, I will never buy another MS product for home use based on the frustration and waste of time I've had dealing with this product. Some of the glitches I've researched have been discussed in forums in 2015. So some of the solutions do not apply or function in updated models. But the same issues persist. The keyboard frequently freezes or will appear blank or just not at all. Multiple restarts correct it. Website pull down menus will not pull down on certain sites. Unresponsiveness is commonplace. The list of daily irritations are too numerous to list. This was supposed to be a replacement device for some old dinosaurs. But I still reach for a 10 year old T-Rex before this device. I've learnt my pricey lesson.

I am a longtime Apple user who decided to purchase a windows pc for the first time in a decade as I needed it for compatibility issues for work related programs. Let me start by saying to product itself quality wise was excellent. Slick and stylish, beautiful display, and surprisingly great features. The issue I ran into was that every time I used excel it seemed to have operational issues. Seemed to me that a Microsoft product should work well with Microsoft software. In my experience it was not the case and proved to be detrimental to my experience. I spent a lot of time researching which pc I planned on buying, so I was completely disheartened when finally it crashed to the point a complete reset was required. Let me reiterate, I was using excel to make a spreadsheet. I returned it and purschased a MacBook Air with a slower processor and have not had one issue. Keep in mind I am now using a Mac to use a Microsoft program and it works better. In my personal opinion and experience, spend the extra money and buy a Mac.

      Hey Mike,

We regret to hear that you have been having these experiences with your Surface Laptop; we expect much more out of our devices and know you do, too. The performance issues you ran into with Office are not what we know of our products. It sounds like you've already returned the device, but for anyone else experiencing issues like this, please use the Surface Diagnostic ToolKit to ensure the device is set up correctly here:

I bought the Surface Pro for a new job I was starting that I heard would require a lot of travel or running around the building. The portability is fantastic for what I do, the surface pen is great for note taking (took a little getting used to but now I love it), and the keyboard I was worried would be flimsy and useless but is actually fantastic. I will say the Surface mouse is a waste for me. I bought it thinking it would be very useful but I just prefer the touch pad of the keyboard cover. Overall fantastic tablet that I am really enjoying. Screen is beautiful, face detection for unlocking can be iffy at times but I feel that's more my fault for not being prepared for the camera to start looking. Speakers were surprisingly loud, I was not expecting that. I'm not audiophile by any means but if I wanted to play videos or music it could put out more sound then you'd expect.

I have had the Surface Pro 2 months and loved most of its features and its functionality. I had the usual issues with the Surface not recognize the keyboard when reconnecting it, but that was expected. However, a couple of weeks ago it wouldn't recognize the typecover or the separate keyboard/mouse. I tried everything and then ended up doing a reset. The reset reconnected the peripherals but there were no internet programs, could not get into settings, couldn't set up printers, etc. My IT people looked at it and did another reset and the same issue was there. I made an appoiintment with the Microsoft store and they ended up having to do a complete wipe/clean and restore. The good part of this was that they were very friendly and initially told me the repair would take two days (not terrible) but then called me a few hours later that my Surface was ready to pick up. We'll see if the problem happens again.
