5Great Tablet - Beautiful Screen

I bought this on the pre-BF sale, saved $400. Get the pen when you make the purchase and save another $20 on the pen (which comes with 5 different tips, each a different "pencil softness" - see image). I have 1st generation Microsoft Surface pro (i5 G3); I was concerned about m3 processor, but it (with improved GPU) is much better than the original and the battery life is about 4x better (original ~2.5h, this ~10h). The keyboard is just ok, it is backlit, and a little wider key spacing than previous; the "grey felt" look is nice, but key travel still limited. The latest pen has greatly improved touch sensitivity it is "marvolous"... using pen as mouse on screen is sensational. BTW: I can't believe new MacBooks don't have a touch screen - the screen viewing angle on the is tablet are exceptional combined with the new pen - a new computing experience. m3 processor is plenty powerful for most activities; Using Chrome Browser, I could easily open 6-8 tabs without noticing any sluggishness, at the same time run iTunes in the background. All told it's a great combination, and it's 100% quiet - NO FAN - and little noticible heat. behind the open kickstand you can feel warmth, but nothing like computers with older generation i3,i5 & i7 CPUs. If your lucky enought to get one fro this price, try the new Microsoft "inking" app, which combined with MS-Note provive a powerful on-screen writing combination.

5Fantastic Device!

Purchased my first Surface (3) last year (2015) around "Black Friday" at Best Buy. The bundle package was something I just could'nt walk away from - for an item that I'd been considering for quite a while. One of the best purchases I've ever made i.e. cost wise and otherwise! It's actually a laptop - tablet - personal/portable/compact "entertainment center" all in one! At the time of the purchase, none of the other (tablet) options out there had a USB and an SD slot (which I store my Videos/Movies on). I thought it was great just to have the USB function but BOTH a USB and SD... Wow! Perhaps on a laptop - but on a tablet? Virtually unheard of at the time - still perhaps? In fact, earlier that same day, I'd already purchased an iPad from a nearby Apple Store - which was still in the trunk of my car. After the Best Buy associate explained all of the features of the Surface - it was a "no brainer" for me. I purchased the Surface bundle on the spot and immediately returned the iPad for a refund. And doing so only highlighted the fact that the iPad cost significantly exceeded what I'd paid for my Surface and a keyboard combined. The following June another Best Buy sale presented an opportunity for me to purchase yet another Surface 3 for my son as a college graduation gift. This year's Best Buy Pre "Black Friday" sale has brought the "Surface Experience" full circle for my family. That is, the new & improved Surface 4 bundle package was so phenomenial, I purchased two. One for my wife and the other for my daughter as Christmas presents.

5Great value on a premium tablet computer!

The Microsoft Surface Pro has always been a premium-level computer since it was introduced. I have avoided buying one until now because of that fact - I am FAR more of a budget-minded user/shopper. I wanted to replace my somewhat-aging Asus T-100 that had started out with Windows 8 and I had upgraded to Windows 10 quite successfully. The T-100 was my everyday carry computer for the office, and I would use Windows 10 Mail and Calendar and the bundled Office 2013 everywhere - I would then Remote Desktop to my main computer to run everything else. I bought this Surface/Keyboard bundle on sale at my local Best Buy store when I saw the ad. I am NOT disappointed with my switch to the Surface Pro 4 - it is fast, it is compact, it has an awesome screen. I added a 128G micro-SD card to store my movies and downloads, and I bought the discounted-price-with-the-bundle stylus (though I am not sure I will use it that much). I really like the facial recognition feature instead of typing in a password. I have not found anyone else's face that will unlock the computer. The kickstand is a fantastic design element - I use it on desks, my lap, pretty much anywhere. The charger is small and I love the magnetic connection. Recharge times are very acceptable (a LOT faster than my T-100). I think that the keyboards for these are VERY overpriced, but EXTREMELY functional. The touchpad is probably the best I have ever used, and I really am comfortable with touchpads. Multi-touch and Windows 10 go together very well. Even though I got the entry-level M3 processor, the performance is very adequate for all of my office and general-use needs. The fact that there is no fan at all is a major plus for me.

4Slim Slate that's Not the Best Lappy

I'll start with the good - the touch display is super responsive; the tablet is thin, stiff, and mostly lightweight; the m5 processor is more than sufficient for my work (office apps, documents, internet, and light gaming) and I love how silent it is with no fan. The writing experience with the Surface Pen (which I had to purchase separately) is divine. Almost enough give up pen and paper. The keyboard cover works and has a decent layout. Traveling with it though is great because of the power to size ratio. It's a full-on computer that's just a little bigger than an iPad. So if you need to consider size and weight while still retaining a full powered computer, this is an awesome option. Now the marginal to bad - fingerprints (or really any smudges) on the screen; there is no way to keep this thing clean. It always looks disgusting. And for all the discussion about using is as a laptop - you can, but not for really long sessions (the kickstand digs it your legs) and not flexibly - you can sit in one or two positions and make it work, but outside that, it's not a laptop. It is definitely a tablet first, laptop (far distant) second. The Surface Pen feels wonderful, but the application support is mostly lacking. It works great in OneNote except that OneNote sucks for what I need to do. I have found a few that work for me, but they work grudgingly. In my applications, I'm not using it a ton as a laptop, but a set-on-table-top for most things, but I do miss the ease of use of a simple laptop clamshell design at times.

5Really Happy So Far!
PostedTimFI purchased this bundle about two weeks ago. So far I am extremely pleased. Pros: The core M3 is plenty fast enough for everything I am doing and the battery life is pretty good. The type cover is much better than I expected given its small and very thin form. I love the Alcantera. It gives the Surface pro 4 a high end look and feel. Microsoft has done a nice job designing a keyboard with great tactile feedback. It really is great to type on. The track pad is really smooth with excellent response as well. The display on this is beautiful! Accurate colors with fantastic detail. Cons: No major complaints but, users should be careful if they store the magnetic pen on the side of their surface 4. This bundle includes the type cover but not the pen so I purchased it separately. I've been using the magnet to keep it on the Surface and it has fallen off several times. It's easy to forget that it's supposed to be there and it can be knocked off rather easily. I've found it in my car seat, on the floor in my office and on the ground next to my car! I just bought a carry bag so now I store the pen in that....I would hate to lose a $60 pen!

4Excellent hardware but falls short on software

The Surface could be such an excellent device. I love every feature it has. It is a tablet and a laptop and most importantly it can run a full version of Windows. The touch screen is responsive and the pen writes more naturally that any stylus I have used. The size is great and it is so easy to carry around with you. The keyboard is good too. I love the mag charger and keyboard connection that make it so easy to plug in either item. But, considering this device has been around for a couple of years now, I would expect the bugs to have been worked out of the software. The pen randomly loses its button controls, forcing you to disconnect and reconnect it or reboot the machine. The touch screen occasionally freezes up which, if you don't have the keyboard handy, means a hard reboot to bring it back. The onscreen keyboard is quite awful. Really, no predictive typing, no swype - is this not a mobile device, Microsoft? In all, I would say that this is a device that could be outstanding but definitely needs some work still. No lies, I am a mac user and I have said many times that if it ran Mac OS, it might just be perfect!!! But it would also be close to perfect if the software that controls it was just improved a little and the bugs worked out of it.

This bundle was purchased during the Black Friday Pre-sale for $599. Aside from the killer price, the Surface Pro 4 is an amazing tablet that really replaces your laptop. Even at the base spec, the Core-M model is more than capable of handling anything you throw at it. I think 4GB RAM is a tad low but then again would there ever be a time when you are graphic designing, watching a movie, live streaming on Facebook and surfing the web all at the same time? If you answer no like 99.99% of the population then the answer is no. What I'm trying to say is that this model SP4 is more than capable enough for anybody out there. The fit and finish is top notch and the Windows 10 experience is pleasant even without using it in tablet mode, which cannot be said about other Windows running tablets in the market. The bundled alcantara type cover feels luxurious. I was concerned about corners and contact points turning dark but has not done so even after daily use. I pair the SP4 with a mouse but the touchpad works very well ergonomically and is great to use when no mouse is handy.

3Mediocre performance; great features

I bought this tablet as a laptop replacement. For what I use it for, it suffices. If you are a gamer or other heavy user, I wouldn't recommend this device. Also, there still aren't as many useful apps and the apple and android devices. Otherwise, the features I wanted are all here, but the device doesn't always perform well. It's very slow to start up using facial recognition, assuming it recognizes you at all. If you're a woman who changes her hairstyles around, forget about it.... The track pad on this tablet is worthless. I've tried adjusting the speed and everything, but I basically have to use the touchscreen or a mouse because using the track pad results in the screen jumping around. Lately it has taken to not working at all and the only way to get it to work is to restart the surface. On the good side, it's very portable and the surface pen works really well. The ability to take handwritten notes was the selling point for me. Unfortunately, with the overall performance being so bad, I wouldn't buy another one of these.
