A Much Needed Breath of Fresh Air!
Posted .I have been in the tech field for over 2 decades. I always wait to upgrade to a new version of ANY software or OS until it's been field tested by actual people who have purchased and used it. I must say that Windows 10 has been a much needed upgrade for all of the Windows versions. I have used Windows 7 Professional for several years and was reluctant to take a risk and upgrade to Windows 10. However, after buying a laptop (Dell) with the OEM version of Windows 10 installed, I was sold. To begin, Windows Edge is amazing. It's so much more streamlined and faster than the old "tried and true" Internet Explorer. Pages load up very quickly and the interface is intuitive - it's very easy to customize your preferences for online experiences. It took a little getting used to the new desktop. I'm glad to see that Microsoft listened to those who complained about Windows 8 not having the option to use a start button that all of us are so accustomed to using over the years. It's nice to have those blocks for quick access to frequent programs, but I still prefer the startup list. Windows 10 (both home and pro versions) is extremely stable. I have not had any experience with BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) or hangups. For those who have complained that their systems crashed or lost performance after upgrades, I strongly advise that before deciding to upgrade to Windows 10, look up the minimum requirements. It is also imperative that you get any updated drivers for 3rd party equipment BEFORE starting the upgrade. Though I had no problem with the desktop PC that I built (all components were popular, standard devices), I was sure to get all updated drivers and burned them to a CD just in case. I would also suggest that unless you really need remote desktop (I use it all the time), don't bother to spend the extra $$$ for the Pro version. There are subtle differences between the two versions, but the remote desktop feature is the biggest one. I also encourage people to ALWAYS (no matter what OS is used) upgrade computers to the maximum RAM that the motherboard will support and have redundant backup devices (such as WD Mybooks) because, as reliable as hard and digital drives are today, they can and do fail from time to time. I have worked on so many computers where people have not backed up their photos, documents, and music only to lose countless hours and dollars invested. Windows 10 includes Cortana, a digital assistant that helps find things on the internet by either typing or voice activation. Honestly, I can't comment on how accurate Cortana is because I've rarely used it. The operating system itself is very stable, quick and reliable. Though Windows 7 will be supported until January 4, 2020, I would recommend the upgrade to Win10 especially if you intend to keep your current PC beyond that date. CAVEAT: If you have a PC running WinXP, it will most likely NOT be robust enough to upgrade to Windows 10. Upgrades from Windows 8.1 should go very smoothly as it is essentially the same operating system with a few improvements. Upgrading from Win7...I strongly advise upgrading RAM and getting latest drivers. My upgrade went so smoothly, I thought, "Something HAS to go wrong". I've been using Win10 for the past 6 months and have put it through a lot of real-world challenges and it's come through like a champ. Last but not least, if you can spring for a new touch-screen laptop, you will take advantage of many new features in Win10, not to mention you can lose the track pad or mouse. In conclusion, Win10 (IMHO) is the most stable and user-friendly operating systems that Microsoft has developed over the years. If you are careful with upgrading (most RAM and newest drivers) you will find an OS that is a joy to work with.

Eh... it'll do.
||Posted .Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed.I'm rating it three stars as a Microsoft product, nothing to do with Best Buy since they're just the middle-man in this transaction. Years ago I was rocking the best operating systems on my low performance PC builds maxed out at 2GB RAM and 40 - 500 gig HDDs. Windows 95 had my interest. Windows XP was my first real jump into computers, Vista... was useful, though a RAM hog, Windows 7 was and still is my favorite, then 8.... 8.1... then 10. Ugh. Let me explain something. My previous main rig was rocking Win7 Ultimate. Flawless. There's nothing I couldn't do. Any games could be installed and played, schoolwork was done, updates were installed only if the computer asked. Eventually they were disabled by my choice because it let me. No waiting times. So I was in total control. Inevitably the rig got old and slow, just barely holding on like a 15-year-old dog you loved and didn't want to put down but also didn't want it to suffer. Its eyes were going and the arthritis in its hips were making movement difficult. (sigh)... I had to make the call. It was a new and final year of college. To get through this I'd need to replace it. New parts, bigger and better everything. Two 27" curved screens to max productivity as usual. The tower was ripped out and cleaned. New motherboard, CPU, PSU, RAM, graphics card, SSD+HDD, Wifi adapter, the usual. Great... now... the OS. (wince). Wait a sec, I still have my old Windows XP installation discs! Almost done install-- ooh, BSoD during setup isn't a good sign. Okay, Vista it is. Not a whole lot works. Ah, darn... Windows 7 isn't sold anywhere, even online! That leaves me with Windows 10 then. So I get a hard disc copy of this dopey OS in the mail a few days later and it's a flawless install. Too good too be true? YES. Every stinking thing needs to be verified, Microsoft *forces* any and all updates and some take several minutes to an hour to complete. To pour salt on the wound, my version seems to be corrupt to some degree because majority of games I installed won't launch. Yeah, this OS isn't gamer friendly (you can look it up) because I think it has something to do with the third-party patches. Yes, Microsoft doesn't write all the code (surprised?) so he company packs those into the updates which I think recognize anti-pirate software as a threat and won't execute the program. By anti-pirate I mean older games which included serial codes to enter after the end of installation to make sure it's a legal copy. I've done my homework and am not alone in this issue, which is why many people on forums rely on sources which make old games available as .exe files so they're playable on this OS. There are a handful of my disc collection which are playable but they're not as exciting. In short, Windows 10 just loves treating users like we're the criminals. Forced updates, no gameplay allowed, and the company itself seems to be like Disney, a hollow shell of its former self, kept the name but dropped the quality. Come to think of it, the whole Windows OS lineup was still fun to use (amateur or pro) when they still had the 3D-ish flying logo. Remember that? Now it's ironed out flat it became kind of 'meh'.

NOT retail version
||Posted .They still have not changed the item description to state this is the OEM version. Retail costs much more. You can't move your operating system to another computer with OEM. Not worth the lower price - get the retail version or you'll probably regret it later. Otherwise I like Windows 10 more than I thought I would. Hardware installation seems to just work (like Linux) for once without constantly hunting drivers and updates. Only irritating thing is forced updates. This has caused a few headaches when things like the Start menu mysteriously stop working. A fix is usually easy though.

Great OS
||Posted .I purchased a copy of windows 10 home not knowing what to expect. This product comes with a dvd to load the os and a certificate of authenticity to stick on your custom built pc. It was relatively easy and straight forward to install. I enjoy this os.

This is the OEM version of Windows 10 64-bit OS.
Posted .I bought this thinking this was the retail version of the operating system. The product details page does not mention that this is an OEM version. The difference between OEM and retail versions is the OEM version will bind to the motherboard of the computer that it is activated on. This means if you upgrade your computer and buy a new motherboard, the OEM product key will not work. You'll have to make the purchase once again. The retail version can be transferred between computers, although it can only be active on one computer. That said, the Windows 10 OS itself is very good and highly recommended.

Windows 10
||Posted .My experience with Windows 10 after buying a full version has been a positive one. Initially I upgraded from Windows 8.1 Windows 10 and it did not work so well. After receiving my full version of Windows 10 in a very speedy and reasonable amount of time I found the installation process smooth and fast. I've had no troubles with the new installation and I actually like the Windows 10 interface better than 8.1

Q: QuestionCan windows 10 be installed on a machine that has no current operating system on it?
Asked by dork1001.
- A:Answer Dear Dork1001; Yes, Windows 10 will format and prepare the hard drive, whether used or new, and you'll be up and running. Follow your instructions for installation. It normally takes about 15-30 minutes to install Windows 10. Hopefully, you'll have all your drivers working (sound, video, WiFi) after the installation finishes. Good question. Q: QuestionLet’s say that I put the Disk into my Windows XP pc, and restart my computer. Would it upgrade to Windows 10?
Asked by Someguy.
- A:Answer Dear Someguy; Probably not. Windows XP is too far back, but if it were a Windows 7 machine, that would work. Sorry. Too many generations behind. Best of luck, Consultant Brian
