I needed a 4K bluray player and this Xbox one S is the least expensive one on the market. The only bad thing about Xbox as a bluray player is that it will not currently do Dolby atmos or DTS:X via bitstream. You can still get Dolby digital, DTS, Dolby True HD and DTS:HD but to do atmos or DTS:X you will need a stand alone player or wait till Microsoft eventually updates it via firmware. This also streams apps like Netflix and Amazon and many others in 4K native resolution as well as HDR where applicable. Games can also be upscaled by the Xbox in 4K and sent to your tv in case if you didn't want your TV to do the upscaling. I've found that having the Xbox do the upscaling to 4K decreases perceived input and display lag while gaming. The new Bluetooth controller feels great in the hands and connects to my PC flawlessly when playing games on steam big picture mode. I can't speak for HDR gaming yet as Forza will be the first game that I will be able to try out and it has not released yet. Make sure to pair this with a 4K tv that has HDR 10 and at least 1000 nits to get the best out of the HDR 10 capabilities. This console is a home run, runs silent, keeps very cool, no more external power brick and should have been the initial Xbox one.

I was in the market for a 4k bluray player and after looking at Samsung that is still going for around $400, the new Xbox caught my eye. Its definitely a good value that combines a game system with a large 2TB hard drive (that Microsoft announced is a limited run production) and 4k video capabilities for bluray playback and streaming. The setup was fairly painless. I have it connected to my 4k capable Denon AVR and Sony X940D 4k HDR TV. After downloading the update, Xbox recognized my TV capabilities and set itself mostly right (I had to manually change bit depth to 10bit from default 8bit). Added the Xbox to my Logitech Harmony remote and it was smooth sailing from there. Halo played great and Mad Max 4k bluray looked great! Negatives: - Only available in white color. Can stick out in your AV center if everything else is black. See the picture... - Lack of Dolby Atmos and DTS X sound modes for 4k bluray playback. Hopefully Microsoft will patch them in soon. Meanwhile it still sounds good with 7.1 uncompressed audio out. - Hard drive is slow, 5400 rpm speed, so there is some slowdown in dashboard and game loading/installing (same speed as with original Xbox One). I wish Microsoft would have made it user up-gradable like in PS4. Overall an easy recommendation if you have a 4k TV and are looking for a 4k bluray player/streamer. You get a solid game machine with a solid game library with it. Enjoy!

I *love* my new Xbox One S console. As a bit of an Xbox superfan, I already owned two Xbox Ones with Kinect, and have around 120 games, all digital. There's plenty to love: -Smaller footprint makes fitting it in an entertainment center much easier -No power brick to hide or work around -Ability to stand it vertically means you can put it next to (or even behind) your TV -4K UHD player with HDR looks FANTASTIC -Having the console combined with your Blu-Ray player frees up a ton of space and saves you an HDMI port -HDMI pass-through (same as the last Xbox One version) continues to save you an HDMI port -Functionality with your cable box (running it through the HDMI-in port) is fantastic, intuitive and responsive -Up to 2 terabytes of internal storage for your media hoarding, plus you can expand it via USB 3.0 drives -Newly updated controller looks and feels great, with better connectivity In short, this console is an insane value. I actually returned the Samsung 4K UHD player I'd bought earlier and was able to swap outright. I have two 4K TVs, and recommend pairing this with a Samsung 6 Series 6300 set. The smart remote works really well, and I can control EVERYTHING with it without having to mash a bunch of different buttons: TV, Xfinity X-1 DVR, Vizio soundbar and the Xbox. It's a dream setup.
