Synopsis

Million Dollar Arm
Craig Gillespie's drama Million Dollar Arm stars Jon Hamm as JB Bernstein, a one-time successful sports agent who left the massive company he worked for to start in his own agency, Seven Figures Management, with his business partner Aash (Aasif Mandvi). The company is in serious financial straits, and they lose the big client they've been grooming. In a fit of inspiration, JB believes they can go to India, find a cricket bowler, and teach him to be a baseball pitcher. In order to pay for the scheme, he convinces wealthy businessman Chang (Tzi Ma) to create a reality show titled "Million Dollar Arm" to help with his quest for fresh talent. Upon arriving in India, he is quickly befriended by Amit (Pitobash), an overly eager man who loves baseball and wants to do anything he can to help. JB also brings in retired scout Ray (Alan Arkin) to help him weed through the thousands of candidates who try to whip a baseball over 90 mph. Although at first the going is rough, they eventually find a pair of eager and promising prospects -- Dinesh (Madhur Mittal) and Rinku (Suraj Sharma). The duo travel back to the States with JB where they are then tutored by Tom House (Bill Paxton), a USC baseball coach whose approach to the game is as much mental as physical. The two young men are finally given a highly publicized tryout in front of scouts from numerous pro teams, as well as media from around the world. Meanwhile, the fiercely single JB, whose personal life involves dating a string of models, begins to strike up something of a serious romance with his tenant, Brenda (Lake Bell), a doctor who rents the guest house on JB's beautiful L.A. estate. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

I felt that the makers of this film did a pretty good job with this one. I felt that it was inspirational, humorous, and extremely entertaining. It was a feel good story about two boys from India who, after winning a reality show contest, try to make it in the “big leagues.” It’s hard to imagine going from never playing the game of baseball before to trying out in front of droves of scouts in a matter of 10 months. What the two young men accomplished was remarkable, and I feel that the movie did a great job of capturing that aspect. I also liked how the movie showcased cultural differences through light humor (i.e., the part about Indians loving to honk horns was pretty funny). Overall, I would recommend this movie to any fans of sports movies, inspirational stories, or entertaining movies in general.

This agent os struggling big time and get lost. He comes up witg a idea. taking a country that doesnt have baseball at all and trying to find players who can pitch in this land. They find 2 guys can pitch fairly well but they gotta train them so they take them back to America. Some struggles a long the way but in the end it works out. After you watch this movie do some research on the 2 pitchers on where they stand today. You may be amazed at what you find but only after you watch this movie.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) from a screenplay by Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor), Million Dollar Arm is an enjoyable baseball film based on the real life story of how an American sports agent went to India on an extreme long-shot talent search for an Indian athlete with a "million dollar arm", finally recruiting two young Indians who showed promise but who'd never played baseball in their lives.

A true story that reveals many truths regarding what is most important in life - family, commitment, integrity, and having a little fun. The movie is entertaining, comical, and will hold your attention throughout concluding with a strong desire for character success. Great for a family movie night - you will not be disappointed.

My grandson is a youth baseball player and really liked the movie. I liked that is was a true story and they showed the real characters after the movie. I wish it would have included all forms of media -blue ray, DVD and digital so the kids could watch on the DVD player in the car too.

This movie was a true description of how life is in India and shows how basic everything is there. It was told thru baseball as a real life story and found it to be excellent. Not only for content regarding sports, but the way things can still happen. It is a true story, and a good one.

Enjoyable and humorous baseball talent quest with stars John Hamm, Alan Arkin, Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mithal. Hamm & Arkin portray sports agents searching in India for baseball talent to replace that which they lost to a rival agency. The acting is terrific as is the comical adventure.
