Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Pass Disc - Xbox One

I bought this game for my son (7) who is a fan of Minecraft. He loves playing this game and can't wait for each episode to come out. This game puts a story into the Minecraft game which is like a choose your adventure book from years past. While I haven't played the game myself it was entertaining to watch my son make the choices in the game and solve the basic puzzles when they came up. The only drawback for kids I think is that they will have to wait for all the episodes to be released.

We installed the game right after Christmas and my son played through Episode One. He said it was really fun. Even though he had some issues reading all the options for dialog in the short amount of time it gives you. I don't think he was really too concerned about the choices he was making or didn't realize the effect on the story. Which is good for replay-ability. However, when it came time to start Episode 2, it showed as Coming Soon, as did Episodes 3-4. I know these episodes are already out, but I was unable to download them. I rebooted the console, as well as logged into the main account on the XBox One. No change. At one point I was able to go to the download page, but it stated I needed to pay the $4.99 for each episode. I ended up having to delete the entire game (game save data stayed intact) and then I was able to download Episodes 2-4 (5 isn't out yet) without issue. Seems like a lot of wasted time. I'd advise making sure you install all the episodes before you start playing.

My kids really enjoy this game, and it was fun to watch them play. It's an adventure story set in the Minecraft world, split into 5 episodes that are being released about a month apart. You must make decision, dialogue choices, and random quick time events as you follow a group of friends trying to stop a creature that will consume their world. The game is very cute, fun characters, and a clever story, but it does have some minor language (A weapon they are trying to build is called the F-Bomb) so sensitive parents may want to avoid this. Also, this is not geared to the action/adventure or open world gamers. But overall my kids love it and it makes them happy and have fun.
