Few PC to TV issues but did make a improvement

      Posted

I bought two of these one five foot and one 12 foot and one regular 5 foot Platinum. I have a Sony x850c 4k LED TV, a Denon AVR -X2300w, Roku 4 that I am using the regular 5 foot Platinum on, PS4 pro and a pc with I7 6700k and 980ti hooked from my pc to the TV with a HDMI. I updated my TV ,AVR , and made sure my pc graphics card was updated and the HDMI settings where correct on the PC. The problem I had I got a 12 foot black Platinum for my pc to TV because it was on sale for the same price as the 9 foot. When I hooked up the 12 foot cable from PC to TV I could play games on 1080p but when I switched my pc to 4k I would get a message on my TV saying no signal. I noticed the 12 foot black Platinum is directional and the the 5 foot was not. I ended up taking the 12 foot back and getting the 9 foot black Platinum. I could not find anything online to state which ones are directional. The 5 foot and 9 foot black Platinum are not labeled as directional the 12 foot is labeled as directional. I am not sure if the directional had an effect on the PC or if I got a faulty cable, but I do know the 9 foot one worked fine. I read online and the tech at BB said some people experienced issues with directional cables and devices communication or some people refer to it as a hand shake something to do with HDCP. With that said I will say once I get everything working they did make a difference in the picture. I was using another brand 18gbs cables they worked fine but I will say the monster black Platinum does have a better picture and color not dramatically but it was enuff for me to notice a difference. I took one star away for two reasons I called monster customer service multiple times and could never get a hold of anyone to try and trouble shoot the issues, the other reason is the price did they make a difference yes it did is it worth $60 more per cable that's hard to say I do think they are a little over priced and some of what you are paying for is the monster name and marketing.

NO INSTRUCTIONS that it is a "one-way" cable

We were forced to spend 150 dollars on a cable because they did not have a cable longer than 9 feet in the Gold series, which we first purchased. We had to feed it behind the wall and after connecting and rehanging TV there was no picture (for TV, Cable, Blue Ray, etc.). After spending much time to diagnose the problem (and looking over the product info carefully on the packaging and paperwork) my son just happened to notice a small label on one end of the cable that just said "TV". On the off-chance that that end had to be plugged into the TV, we pulled the cable out of the wall and plugged that end into the TV. It worked. We have never heard of a 'one-way" HDMI cable and when we went back to Best Buy, none of the employees in the home theater department had ever heard of it either. When we contacted MONSTER via e-mail to tell them that their product does not have sufficient information or instructions on the packaging or paperwork, it took them a week to respond by e-mail, and only to say we should call them to return the cable. Customer service at MONSTER is rated extremely bad in our view. Also, Best Buy should know more about the products they sell. We had to get someone to help us take the 65" TV off the wall again, rethread the cable inside the wall and rehang the TV. We also spent much time in diagnosing the problem. This review is only to share information with possible buyers that should have been included with the product.

***Monster HDMI Cable ONE DIRECTION CABLE***

If I did not come across a review of how this cable has one end specifically for the TV, I would have been back at Best Buy for a 3rd HDMI cable. I had no idea that this Monster Black Platinum HDMI cable was made with one end for the TV and the other end for the source (Receiver, DVD Player, Cable STB). I had purchased an LG OLED TV to replace my 8 year old Panasonic Plasma TV. The Panasonic was wall mounted and video was fed through 3 HDMI cables (1st HDMI cable from TV to HDMI wall plate, 2nd HDMI cable from back of HDMI wall plate through inside of the wall to bottom HDMI wall plate, 3rd HDMI cable from bottom wall plate to AVR). I wanted to reduce any possible degradation of signal by reducing 3 cables to 1 cable. I could not figure out for the life of me why my 6 year old Monster HDMI cable worked fine, but when the new Monster cable was connected, no video, only sound. I researched every possible cause from both Denon and LG to figure out why this new cable would not work. I even called Denon support who was a confused as me. Who would have thought that the cable has a designated end specifically for the TV!!!!!! 1 week and countless hours lost, but problem finally solved. Monster, shame on you for not putting a label on the product box informing customers that one end is specifically for the TV or something more than a small yellow band on the cable that reads "TV". Same goes for the Best Buy staff. I have built 4 surround environments in my home and have never come across an HDMI cable that has one end specifically for the TV.

I bought the 35' cable to run inside the wall from my HD projector to my components. This was installed prior to the drywall being installed. A month later when I was hooking my equipment up nothing worked! No signal to the projector. So I hooked up the cable to a small TV from the cable box and still NO signal. Then I noticed a yellow piece of tape on the end at the cable box, it said "TV". What the heck. I went back to Best Buy and read the HDMI package that I bought and it said nothing about being one directional. So I told the Best Buy techs about my problem and they had never heard of a one directional HDMI Cable. They even searched the internet to see if there was anything about this cable being one directional and they found nothing. They were very helpful and apologized for what happened. Sorry I can't comment on the performance of this cable as it's ran through my ceiling and across my wall tied to other cables & wires. The only option is to CUT OUT the new drywall along where the HDMI cable was ran, turn it around and patch the drywall & paint again!!! FUN right. Thanks Monster!! How about adding to the outside front of your package "Caution Cable only works in One Direction"

      GREAT HDMI CABLE

I love this cable. Nice upgrade from my hdmi cable that I had for 4 years. Once again Monster did it... seems to produce a bit sharper image on my LG LCD tv over the Monster The ISF cable produces a smoothe and fluid picture on my 120hz tv. Other cheaper cables can't hold the 120hz, I have tried them all. This ISF cable has great construction and as always will last a lifetime. The LED display is a great feture. Lets you know the exact type of signal you are getting. WOW!! My LG never looked so good, deep blacks, vivid colors, and bright whites. My 1080p hd movies look great..... smoothe and fluid with my 120hz set to 10.... Just got the ISF calibration cd and MAN!! What a picture!! I am telling you this cd realy shows you what this cable can do picture wise. I Also got the Monster HTS 1700 HD Stage 2 power conditioner. WOW!!! The combination of all 3 really sets up for the best picture you can get out of a tv set. I have a sick setup... can't wait to upgrade my LCDtv to an LEDtv with this ISF cable and really open this pup up to see what it can do..... thanks Monster. Yeah I paid a bit for it but you get what you paid for and it is for life.... now I am in another world.... lol .. I actually see things I never did before... great detail.... love the V Grip stays firmly in place...

I originally installed the 24' Rocketfish (behind the stud frames) in my basement home theatre, BEFORE the drywall went up. After hooking up my 4k (Sony XBR 940D) to my 4k upscale receiver (Pioneer Elite 301LX), my cable box (Verizon) decided that it would only spit out audio and no video. After SEVERAL attempts at trouble-shooting (calling cable company/reading about firmware updates/changing every setting known to man/20 on-off sequences) the problem, I found out that the Rocketfish cable was the culprit (ARC not working). I bought this Monster cable yesterday, tested it, and it works GREAT! Better quality video than w the Rocketfish cable (which worked directly to my cable box, but not thru my 4k receiver). Only thing i have to show for the RF cable are 3 separate holes in my newly mudded walls (which aided in fishing the new Monster cables). I had several doubts about the "expensive overated hdmi cables", so I went w the latter. In hindsight I wish I would just have gone w the better quality right 'off the bat', which would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. If you have the money to buy these cables (which I agree are pricey), then save yourself the trouble. Prior to popular belief, these hdmi cables ARE NOT created equally!

I have recently upgraded my entertainment components; 4K tv, 4K upscale blu-ray player and hi-res sound bar. I figured I might as well spend a little extra and get "good" cables to connect everything. Previous cables replaced were the high quality Rockfish and Gold quality monster cables. I did not change any settings to test various scenarios of picture quality so I cannot say there was any noticeable or glaring difference. If enough attention was given, occasional differences were noticed in sharpness or color "pop". Very little however. I did view using some old <$10 quality cables and the picture quality is very noticeable. I gave 4 stars because the price is a bit expensive. Perhaps the idea of the Monster warranty to upgrade your cables if they are ever not able to provide high quality for the technology sold me. These cables are rated to give better transfer rate than the Gold or high quality Rockfish. A lower price version will do fine. I suppose I future proofed buying these cables expecting to use VR functionality and any other technology that may come out in the next few years that may require the higher transfer rate. I don't think there is any technology at this time that requires this level of cable yet.

Seriously, 100$ for a cable. No-thank-you. I don't care how fancy you put your marketing on the outside of this box. The reason I bought this cable was because I was hooking my computer up to a 4K television and it was displaying flashing signal and green lines all over. One diagnosis was that the HDMI cable was bad that I was using, the other was possibly that it wasn't rated high enough. As a trial I went to Best Buy and purchased this cable, clearly with marketing all over telling you how much bandwidth and what not it can handle. Got back home, still the same picture issue. Further research would indicate that the television I was hooked up to couldn't handle 4:4:4 10bit signal. Basically overloading the display with too much information. I had to return the Television set I had and go for one model up in the line. Turned out my 1$ HDMI cables from an online retailer, and HDMI cables that I got back in 2001 all worked flawlessly. Don't be fooled by "gold this or that" or "HDMI 2.0" certification, that's more for the device and not the cable. A digital signal is a digital signal.
