We bought a 58'' Vizio TV along with a soundbar. A little over $1,000 worth of equipment. The Best Buy associate recommended the Monster Power Gold 600 6-Outlet/2-USB Surge Protector Strip to protect our investment. At first I thought it was over-priced, but looking at the connected equipment WARRANTY "peace of mind" claim they make, where it covers up to $350,000 worth of equipment, we thought exactly that. PEACE OF MIND! Just in case. I then felt that the value I was getting was worth the $60. Fast forward 14 months later we had a power surge and guess what? Our tv fried. We called warranty they asked us to file an extensive 4 page warranty claim. We had to pay out-of-pocket for Geek Squad to come out and do a diagnostic. Refundable if Monster agrees that they were at fault. They want to know every detail of what happened. Place and time of power surge. How equipment was connected. Even need to draw a diagram. Keep in mind you're the one scheduling the tech, filing all paperwork, and sending the Power Strip via certified mail. $18 extra out-of-pocket. Need to take time off to schedule tech to diagnose tv. Then they send the power unit to a "lab" where it's inspected. This process can take up to 3 weeks. They basically make you jump through hoops to just file the claim. It's been over 45 days dealing with this. Their process to review claims is extremely inefficient, time consuming, and aggravating. I will keep you updated once I get the result, but next time I will look elsewhere for coverage on my components.
