Let me break this down for you by how I felt after each time I listened to this record start to finish. 1.) Awesome. Bruso's back. So is the heavyness. 2.) Hmmm......I don't know if this is the answer. 3.) Holy cow! I love it. Basically, I was happy at first just because the old BYD was back, but then not sure if the songwriting was up to par. Well, it is. This record holds it own up against Cover Your Tracks and Beauty & The Breakdown. It really sounds like a mixture of the two, but also has its own sound. The band has grown musically, sonically, and lyrically. The songs are catchy and memorable. One thing that stinks though is that almost all the songs are the same tempo. They don't have any fast songs like The Outsiders. Production-wise, however, I have some complaints. The guitars are a little too loud and the drums are extremely quiet. I usually would never complain about this, because as a guitarist, I don't care about drums. So for me to complain about quiet drums makes me think they did something very wrong during the mixing process. Either way, it's a solid release that will stand the test of time and can be played alongside their other records (with Bruso) with confidence.
