Looks great -- black with "stainless" trim. Coffee not so good, sloppy assembly, magical disappearing water. Had the predecessor Mr Coffee for five years, which had none of the problems this one did. When it gave up the ghost, I bought the same Mr Coffee figuring it would be an exact replacement. It leaked. Customer service told me to turn the water level tube which is inside the coffee maker and has an overfill opening on the back of the maker. Rotate so hole in black inside tube faces downward; mine apparently faced upward. It was impossible to see past all the inside (black) parts. Customer service told me to get a long pair of tweezers to turn it. Much easier -- rotate the rubber gasket from the outside 180 degrees. It is connected to the inner tube and they both rotate together. You can watch the tube rotate by looking inside with a flashlight to verify it actually rotated. I precisely measured and matched 12 cups of water to the front reservoir and the glass carafe 12 cup marking and noted that it lined up with the inner black overflow tube perfectly. Brewing on strong nets me 10 cups of coffee. Brewing on regular nets me 11 cups of coffee (both measured by the markings on the glass carafe both inbound and outbound). The user manual suggests the missing water is sitting in the coffee grounds -- not likely. I squeezed that out and got very little water out of the grounds. Hard to believe that a full two cups actually disappeared through steam, but that is my guess since there is a lot of steam (more with the "strong" brew setting). Coffee tasted bad no matter which brew strength I used. Likely the temperature setting control is too high and the coffee maker is brewing the coffee at too high a temperature. I have been using the same brand and source for coffee for fifteen years. Two months ago when I was still using my old maker (same Mr Coffee model -- though different number) it still tasted great. Thought about giving it away, but didn't want to lose any friends or make any enemies. It will be going into the recycle bin.

This coffee maker started out great. We bought it for Christmas 2010. It's attractive, cool clock, easy to set brew timer, auto switch off. But after 18 months, it's kaput. The only thing that still works are the lights on the display. We weren't exactly easy on the machine. We used it daily, but it was well taken care of. We followed the instructions for care and cleaning and even used the Mr. Coffeee cleaning product. There is no reason this coffee maker should already be dead. Also, this machine created an ongoing expense. You have to continue purchasing the water filters and the cleaning product. I guess really the filters are optional, and at first we thought they were great. We tried to do the monthly replacement as the instructions recommend, but as time passed it just became an inconvenience - one more thing on the shopping list and the easiest thing to skip. In the end, this one was good coming out of the gate, but never made it to the finish line. I wouldn't recommend this machine.

It's Sunday and I am again waiting to hear back from Jarden Customer Service about replacing this coffeemaker. If they replace it I will be satisfied. These machines appear similar but not identical as they decide to replace what with whatever. As it turns out the first machine I bought at Best Buy was a two year old discontinued model for which I had to provide written documentation of it being less than a year old. Easy enough by printing a page from Best Buy website. There were minor cosmetic differences but the second one actually made much better coffee. The first never made a decent pot. I figure it was the temperature despite my setting it for the strongest setting. The first one lasted six months before quitting. The second lasted about two months. Also, the timed brewing on this machine was undependable. I would set it up to brew at 5:30 AM and find that it had not started when I came downstairs. I would not replace this machine with a Mr. Coffee but for the existing warranty.

I've been using this style coffee maker for about 20 years. A few years ago Mr coffee quit making it and changed the style of all their units so that the hinge on top that you opened to pour the water in and add the coffee grounds was on the left side. That was very problematic for left handed people like myself. I am so happy that Mr. Coffee has brought this style back. The hinge on this unit is in the rear so you can pour water in from either side. I make 2-3 pots of coffee daily so it gets a lot of use. This coffeemaker normally lasts me about 3 years before wearing out so that's over 3000 pots of coffee. You will get about 8 12OZ cups of coffee per pot so that's about 24000 cups of coffee from a $30 coffeemaker. In my book that is a very good investment! Oh yeah...it makes very good tasting coffee too. I sure hope Mr Coffee got the message from us lefties and continues to make these units with the hinge on the rear.

In the past our coffee makers had the controls down by the carafe warmer plate. If coffee dripped from the basket or dribbled off the carafe onto the warmer plate and lower part of the machine, it inevitably dripped onto the the various function buttons. After a while those buttons get stuck and gummed up with coffee. This machine has all of the function buttons ABOVE the carafe - so no dribbles onto the function buttons. Also, the carafe design provides for a tight fit under the basket drip spigot which further aids in reducing rogue drips that always result when you remove the carafe before the coffee is completely brewed in order to get a cup. The basket shutoff valves usually leak a little as you pull the carafe away and then as you reinsert the carafe (while the coffee is still brewing). This machine has minimal dripping from the basket because the carafe fit is tight and designed better so as to reduce drips in these situations. AND the price is very competitive for its features and design.

Love this coffee maker. I bought three to use in my inn for different flavors of coffee. They look so cute in red and I have gotten a lot of compliments on them. I love that I can program them at night and I wake up to fresh brewed coffee. The only con that it has, and it is a big one for me (but then again I haven't found a newer model of a coffee maker that doesn't seem to have this super annoying feature), is that it turns off 2 hours after it turns on. I guess it's a safety feature but I would really love for a four hour turn off or maybe a no hour turn off. For those days when I would like to sleep in and my husband goes to work early, I wake up to luke warm coffee. And at my inn since breakfast is served 7:30-10:00 when the annoying buzzer goes off at that 2 hour mark, I just walk over and turn the machine back on. Love this machine, just wish we have the option of when it turns off.

Having many features and a higher price with good reviews, I was sure this would be the best coffee maker out there, but it was not for me. I bet it is only for certain coffee pot users. There were too many features that let me down, resulting in me to returning it to the store even though it worked ok. For example, the coffee tasted lighter than my other coffee maker, even on strong brew function and regular function. The warmer plate was not as expected, I didn't like that the lid came off easy which I assumed was so you can wash it separately but I didn't like that. Especially when making coffee. The lid has to open when you pour, the filter is annoying, and too many other annoyances. My cheaper Mr Coffee maker is 10x better! The only very good, nice feature without a doubt was the clock!

I'd highly recommend the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker - Black/Silver. There is a Fresh Brew timer which shows you just how long your coffee has been sitting around. The burner has an adjustable temperature gauge. If you're like me and only like coffee that is scaulding hot then this is the coffeemaker for you. Another perk, if you're running late for work and the coffee hasn't quite finished brewing you can take the pot off the burner and the coffee won't drip down onto the burner. The coffeemaker actually pauses mid brew cycle so that you can grab that quick cup-o-joe on your way out the door. You may be asking yourself, "Well, there must be 'SOMETHING' wrong with this miracle coffeemaker?!" And yes, there is. It doesn't have that nice mesh coffee filter basket. You'll have to use the paper filters. I recommend the brown ones. No bleach added! I hope you enjoy this coffee maker as much as I do!
