MSI earned a customer, and Asus lost one.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've bought this laptop to replace my Asus G75vx which was purchased over three years ago. While there are a few things that I will miss about my Asus, the performance upgrade from an Nvidia 670mx to a full GTX 1080 more than makes up for it. PROS: - GTX 1080 graphics card (Witcher 3: 80 fps, ultra + max Hair Works; 1080p, not overclocked) (Doom: 120+ fps, ultra; 1080p, not overclocked) - Excellent Cooling solution (With some adjustments to fan rpm curves, my temps on CPU and GPU never went above 79 degrees Celsius. Even before adjustments, my GPU temps never went above 85.) - 120hz monitor - These built in speakers are good for a laptop (I used an external USB speaker on my g75vx for web browsing and videos, but I have no need to use it on this GT73vr; although I do recommend a headset for gaming) - Plenty of modern hardware ports - Keyboard is decent (though not as good as the g75vx) CONS: - Uncomfortable palm rest (The portion where your wrists and forearms rest or hover while typing is a steep cliff. The laptop's edge is over an inch tall, while my old Asus was only about half an inch.) - Numpad and Arrow Keys (The Numpad keys are about 1.5cmx1.2cm in size compared to the other keys being 1.5x1.5, and it is flush with the arrow keys and main typing area. If you look at Asus' G series keyboards, the arrow keys are slightly separated and the Numpad is full-sized [which I prefer].) - Backlit Keyboard (The backlighting of this keyboard is mainly for aesthetics. The letters and numbers themselves aren't illuminated. Only the edges of the keys light up, which is pointless in my opinion [at least I can customize colors, dim or shut them off]. My old Asus actually lit up the letters and numbers with a pleasant faint white backlighting.) - Noise Level (Fans will get loud during heavy loads, but I game with headphones so it isn't an issue for me. You can adjust the fan rpm curves, but if you want stable temps you need to be reasonable with your changes and let them do their job. My custom curves are actually slightly more aggressive than default to get temps under 80 at load.) - SSD on this Titan Pro 003 is only 128gb, but can be upgraded easily. (I'm going to replace it soon with a 960 Pro and take out the HDD entirely.) FINAL THOUGHTS: This MSI GT73vr is a superior laptop to Asus' G701vi for the same price point, same software performance, but better hardware thermals. Let me explain... I really wanted to get another Asus, specifically the "Asus G701vi" with the same exact specs as this "MSI GT73vr Titan"; but the cooling solution on the G701vi is terrible. The Asus runs 10-20 degrees hotter than the MSI, while using the same exact GPU and CPU; also the CPU in the Asus was running on the verge of maximum temp listed by Intel (not good). Asus uses only two heat-pipes which are shared between the CPU and GPU, while this MSI laptop has over five dedicated to the CPU alone. I am only giving 4 out of 5, because I don't like the chassis design and not-so-perfect keyboard. After experiencing the G75vx's palm rest and keyboard, the GT73vr is a rather unpleasant typing experience. If it had the same tapered design as g75vx, it would have earned an 11/10 easily. Whether it is MSI, Asus, or other brand, I hope the manufacturers take note of my review. If Asus had the cooling under control, I would have been sold on their matte-finished tapered palm rest alone. Until next time...

Best Gaming laptop you can buy!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendBought this gt73vr Titan from Best buy on 11-17-16 and picked it up at their Delaware store so I did not have to pay any sales tax... sweet! Also, it was on sale when I bought it! This laptop is a speed FREEK! Screen is 120 KHz and has no blur at all! Key board is the steel series and is fantastic! Also, has the PCI ssd interface which is super fast... And... the best part it has the GTX 1080 Video card that is the best card on planet earth for a laptop! What else could you want?
