An absolute beast of a laptop.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Per-key RGB Steelseries keyboard, which is awesome. I love that the different presets that come with it, and the fact that I can light up specific keys however I want for specific games makes it a godsend. The dGPU, while not the most powerful, is quite good, being able to get over 60 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider in High + Ultra Ray Tracing + Contact Shadows, for example. The chassis is a sleek black aluminum that looks and feels premium. It has Windows hello, which is a nice feature to have. Has a MUX switch, which is always a plus, and when on MSHybrid, along with undervolting and on power saving plan I can get over 10 hours of battery life when on the go. Cons: Unless you undervolt, the CPU can get a little hot, but nothing that a good stand or cooling pad won't help with. There's a little plastic strip at the front that I don't know how well it will age in comparison to the metal body. Fans can be a little loud because of the thin chassis, however that CAN be mitigated by creating a personalized fan curve. It's a bit of a fingerprint magnet (MSI ships all their laptops with a cloth tho). Port positioning could be a bit better. 80w 3060 only, so it could be more powerful. Pricey. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase, it is an excelente machine and I would 100% recommend it to anyone. An enormous upgrade over my old GE62 6QD Apache Pro. Display problems
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1-star rate since there are unusable problems. I've always wanted to own an MSI for gaming, but my first entry-level laptop let me down. The first is that the screen does not display after sleep (the screen is bright but black) even though all other devices (power, I/O, RGB lights) are okay. I tried to close the lid and turn the computer back to sleep, but in the end, I always had to force it to shut down to solve the problem. I couldn't accept this problem with a new purchase (it happened about three or four days after I bought it). Also, sometimes after I restart the system, the screen will turn to 60Hz and the 240Hz option will disappear (I tried system settings and the NVIDIA control panel, but the 240Hz option disappeared from both). The second problem is the screen lag and delays. Sometimes the computer will suddenly stationary and it will be normal for two or three seconds, then suddenly stationary again... (I don't know if it's because I always force it to shut down, it sometimes just crashes and can't be restored to normal). I tried downloading the latest Intel graphics driver (which fixed the screen lag but didn't work again later); re-downloading the motherboard BIOS file from MSI's official website, and reinstalling it (which fixed the black screen after sleep, again, didn't work after reboot). I did a lot of research on the Internet, and it seems that many computers have this problem (not just this MSI GE66, some other brands also). Some say it's a Windows system bug, some say it's hardware incompatibility. Anyway, I returned it in the last 14 days.

Great for price, overlook some small issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a digital content creator and casual gamer, this updated version of the MSI G66 Stealth is of decent value, but you must be very specific in what you are looking for in a laptop. Overall portability and function is great, with excellent performance and function, at the sacrifice in some areas. Starting with the good - the 10th Gen i7 processor blows competition away, running 4.3+ GHz as needed. The RTX 3060 runs great for its price - Call of Duty Modern Warfare/Warzone runs an average of over 95 fps on the 240Hz screen at 1080p max settings; As a laptop specifically for on-the-go function, the G66 works excellent as my portable workstation. Keys are tactile and formatted well - it's quite enjoyable to type on. The overall design of the laptop is sleek and modern, solid feel with more than enough I/O ports, especially for a laptop. Now the "bad" As stated in multiple reviews, the fans get LOUD. You could mitigate by playing/working with headphones, but that may not be comfortable for hours on end. The loud fans do have a purpose though - with a laptop stand and a room hoovering around 72 degrees F, the GPU never goes above 60 degrees C when playing process-heavy games. It's a tradeoff for the size and function of the computer. The matte metal casing also is a fingerprint magnet - nothing a wipe wouldn't get rid of, but could be annoying for some. So far, one problem I've noticed is the stability of the integrated graphics driver - it would flicker white sections of word documents, websites and others, etc. One way around the issue would be to go into MSI Dragon center and select dGPU as the only card used. No issues so far but hopefully Intel or MSI come out with a fix. Not-reviewed: Battery life: I haven't had the chance to really test it out - mostly been using the laptop plugged in. At balanced or high performance mode, it doesn't look to last more than 2 or 3 hours. However, on battery saving mode you could get up to 6 hours? Unfortunately cannot compare to laptops such as the Surface Book which gets over 10 or 12 hours from my experience.

Solid gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely solid gaming laptop. The unfortunate reality with laptop GPUs is that you aren't getting the full capability, but MSI did a great job optimizing and cooling. Not quite the full quality of a 3060, but I'm able to run most games and high settings and still maintain good frame rates while pushing two external monitors and running other programs. Note: I upgraded my RAM to 32GB and added a second NVMe drive, which was fairly straightforward and easy to do. Helped out a ton with performance.

Great Performance, but Costly Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to switch from my desktop to a laptop that could handle some gaming and run the Adobe programs for the course I’m in and hopefully my work in the future. It’s a great pc that runs everything I need and the difference in a 60hz screen to the 240hz is otherworldly, just so smooth. The keyboard is pretty good for a laptop, I love the colors, the screen is beautiful, the laptop is lightweight. Just amazing. Now for the negatives. It gets pretty hot if you game intensely on it, the battery life isn’t amazing when gaming (but that’s pretty much all laptops), and it’s way more expensive than the ASUS laptop with the same/better specs. Ultimately I chose this laptop because of the keyboard and how lightweight it is and I have no regrets about it. Highly recommend.

Not bad at all.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good laptop but i wouldnt give it 5 stars. The keyboard is kind of cheap, had it less than a month and one of the lesser/never used keys broke off. Also, it is a steelcase which makes it heavier then necessary. Aluminum would be the way to go. the fan is loud with a pretry light workload. its a great computer. the screen is nice. and the gpu / cpu and ram are legit. I think this comp is ideal for a 1 comp person but if you have a desktop and laptop you might want to go with something lighter. it has a nice inconspicuous design.

An amazing laptop at an amazing price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dropping almost $2K on a laptop when I already had a gaming desktop was no easy decision. Fortunately, I got it home, fired it up and any potential buyers remorse was quickly disregarded as this thing absolutely SMOKES any game I throw at it. Performance aside, one of the consistent complaints I had read about it was that the fans were loud and yes, out of the box they are. That said, if you drop it down to "quiet" mode and leave it there, you sacrifice about 3% performance and gain near silence - seriously. Much ado about nothing. I can't possibly recommend this laptop higher.

Q: QuestionI’m an owner of the rtx 2070 max-q variant. Is this faster than the previous gs66 at this price? If so how much faster? And is there upgrade options from the one I currently have to this one?
Asked by JadenW.
- A:Answer I believe so. from what i heard the 3060 is as powerful as the 2070 super version so your definitely getting more power. My only concern is that this version only has 6 GB of GDDR6 video memory whereas the 2070 Max Q version has 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory. I think in the long run though that the 3060 version will infact be more powerful then the 2070 version.

Q: QuestionIs the rtx 3060 a low or high watt gpu? (max-p or max-q)
Asked by packersfan036.
- A:Answer You could say it's a Max-Q, it's a 80 [W] variant, but if I'm not wrong it can get up to 95 [W] with Dynamic Boost. All MSI GS66 with an RTX 30 have a TDP of 80 W.

Q: QuestionWhat are the watts on this laptop?

- A:Answer in terms of the GPU? I hear Stealth series is limited to 80W.

Q: QuestionHow is the temperature/fps when playing high intense games at high or max settings?
Asked by Dabwil.
- A:Answer Temp is very good when Dragon Center was working it was about 74 degrees when playing. I have good framerates in my MMORPGs; some in 70s and more intense phases around mid 30s.

Q: QuestionI'm interested on this laptop because of the new RTX 3060, however the model with 32GB is out of my budget, so I was wondering if I could just add more RAM down the line? Or should I buy the MSI GE66, but the RTX 2070 Super model?
Asked by char224.
- A:Answer This chassis features 2 x 240-pin SO-DIMM slots, so yes you can upgrade the memory. As it ships however, both banks are filled with 2 x 8Gb sticks, so you would have to swap them both out for 2 x 16Gb sticks to get 32Gb. Having said that, most games don't see much benefit in greater than 16Gb of total RAM, so unless you are planning on using it for rendering, video editing etc I'd recommend on just seeing how you do with the factory sticks. The 3060 also allows resizeable BAR which makes the GPUs 6Gb VRAM available to the CPU but i'm not sure how this translates in reality - might be more of a gimmick!

Q: QuestionRAM memory is soldered to the board?
Asked by JEM.
- A:Answer No, you should be able to switch them out if you want to.
