    Great game but has limitations

This game is great but it isn’t without flaws. Attribute caps are great for preventing a bunch of 7 foot point guards shooting deep 3’s but some of them really don’t make sense. How are some players dribbling with ball speed higher than their actual speed rating? Why lock Slashers archetype into having better shoot off dribble skills than stand still knock down shots? That doesn’t make sense in real life as real people have more trouble shooting leaners or pull up jumpers than just a wide open stand still shot. The AI on your team is also crap as at higher difficulties they can’t make a shot to save their life but in lower difficulties the game becomes a blowout rather quickly. I shouldn’t go from blowing teams out by 50 points on pro difficulty to being blown out myself by the same team on all star difficulty by 30. There’s gotta be a middle ground somewhere. However as for the actual game overall it’s still a good game. Appreciate the customizations everywhere and the fact you can do so many different things in the game. Appreciate how realistic the defense is for the opposing AI team when trying to score. Just wish my own AI team played any defense at all. Good overall game but definitely not without flaws.

I was extremely disappointed with this latest version of the NBA 2K series. The game looks amazing and I still enjoy playing the normal mode of the game against friends. But where I used to love this franchise and where I had sunk hundreds of hours of gameplay in NBA 2K14 and 15 was the myCareer mode, which I've found to be nearly unplayable in this version. I can't speak to 2K16, as I didn't play that version, but I can say that with this one it looks like 2K has completely overhauled this mode to change it from a fun, complete experience, to a free-to-play model (in a $60 game, so not even free to play) that completely ruins the balance of progression in this mode. In prior versions, this mode went basically like this: you create a rookie character of pretty middling stats, get drafted to an NBA team, and you work your way up to a superstar by playing games and gaining what is essentially experience points based on your performance. I believe you could spend money for these points, but I never did, because progression was the entire point, to start out weak and work your way up. I'm sure this is why 2K changed the model, to make sure the mode was UNPLAYABLE without forking over some more cash.

So I thought this would be a fun game

So I thought this would be a fun game to play and I researched to find out which game to purchase between this and NBA live 16. I should have researched the controls a little better because the controls on this game have just to many options for me personally to sit down and have fun playing a basketball game every once in a while. If you want to take the time to learn how to shoot, dunk, or just do a crossover by having to hit the right trigger, then the left stick up, and then the right stick down in that order and holding it when on a fast break, then this game is for you. It does give you the options to really control what kind of shot or fake or ankle breaking move you want to do, and for some people that's exactly what they want. For someone like myself, this is just to much to do for a casual player. Other than the controls this game looks really good graphically, and has a lot of options for playing like a real NBA player. I now have NBA live 16 on order and I am hoping that I can just hit the square button to shoot, triangle to pass, and square to steal.

2k17 is by far the best yet! It amazes me the level of detail and time spent gathering commentary and voice overs for all of the various story lines, events and plot twists just in My Career alone. Now that's not to say the game isn't without it's flaws: it's still somewhat glitchy (eg: All Star Weekend in MyCareer mode), and the archetype restrictions on player development are a bit of a pain point for many including myself, but overall I think it's a great release from 2KSports. I think the biggest thing to be aware of is that 2K seems to be steering everyone in the direction of MyPark and ProAM play, as evidenced by the fact that you can only develop your MyCareer player past 95 overall by attaining additional upgrade cap points by playing MyPark games and building your rep. This is not at all apparent and it took a lot of forum visits and blog posts to gain a full picture of exactly what was going on. Would I buy the game again, sure would... the level of realism is unmatched, and though the shot gauge has been revamped again, it's a nice system and the game play is very smooth and intuitive.

Defense wins championships, and the improvements to AI defenses in NBA 2K16 bring this year’s iteration of the long-running basketball sim another title. Due to some big AI upgrades, the offensive tactics that I had been accustomed to using simply no longer work, so I was forced to think like a coach and constantly adapt. Running pick and rolls and calling plays finally felt like it was necessary, as opposed to a tougher option I had to enforce on myself. NBA 2K16 is a great representation of the sport of basketball, and it plays like a dream – both online and off.

The reviews here are hard to believe for me. There are definitely some improvements from last year. The MyTeam aspect is better - not so futile if you want to play without paying. Defenders are not so stupid and there seem to be fewer exploits. Some of the same problems still. Must have been coded by a Golden State fan boy because they play like gods, especially Curry. Teammates in MyCareer mode are morons and do some pretty nonsense things like passing up open shots and running toward defenders when they are wide open.

    2k17 doesn't beat 2k14.

For some reason 2k14 is hands down the best looking basketball game of all time. There weren't a lot of features which is why 2k could bump up the graphics. Now..2k17 is all over the place. Too many features. Who honestly cares about My Career anymore when nothing carries over from last year? Also, Michael Jordan is still messed up and it doesn't even look like him at all. It looks like a random old dude. He also looks the same in 2k18 as well. I'll just wait until 2k19. What a bummer.

If you are a fan of sports games, this one is a must have. Having bought NBA2k16, I was not sure if NBA2k17 would be worth purchasing. I am glad to report 2kSports has outdone themselves again with another solid basketball title. + Graphics - Beautiful game to play on an HDTV. Also, 2kSports deployed a patch specifically for PS4 Pro support. + Franchise Mode/MyLeague modes are once again very deep and customizable. + Online play is very solid; servers rarely go down
