What a Difference
||Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. My Netgear Nighthawk cable modem finally died after many years of service so I replaced it with this Netgear Orbi. Right away I noticed a huge difference in the Wi-Fi signal strength throughout our condo. The hard wired attached TV typically had 400+ mbps whilst Wi-Fi devices typically would have less than 40mbps. Now Wi-Fi signal strength even in the back bedrooms are showing 200 to over 300mbps. Previously I had 4 Wi-Fi extenders located around the condo and they barely made a difference, now with just one Orbi satellite I’m getting awesome Wi-Fi everywhere. Currently it’s a full retail so I was a little disappointed but I couldn’t wait for it to go on sale.

Easy setup, great performance
||Posted .My need was to correct dead spots in house. I purchased ORBI Mesh networking to fix the problem and it did! My side benefit was getting rid of the Comcast modem/router saving me $10/month. Installation of system was easy with no problems or phone call help. Comcast activation was automatic during setup process. I noticed that downloads were faster ie 75mbps comcsst and 125mbps on the ORBI. Signal strength is strong and equal and we have had no dropouts since installation. We have 2000sqft with bonus room/office upstairs. The modem is located there. There are 3 computers connected to that modems ethernet ports. The satellite is downstairs in family room. We have complete coverage on ground level including porch and back yard/garage. System has been up about 30 days as of this review. Highly recommend the ORBI, price is a little high but small price to pay for eliminating inet drop outs on laptops, TV and phone.

Upgraded Old Orbi
||Posted .I needed to replace my old Orbi system since the satellite quit responding after 1.5 years of use. Couldn't revive it. It was spend $250 for a new satellite or $399 for this setup and replace the cable modem which was costing me $10/m. The difference between this and just a new satellite is just over a years of savings by getting rid of the leased modem. So I took the plunge. Because the last one didn't last 2 years, I got the Geek Squad replacement deal with this one. It's been a month now and I'm glad I did this. Went from two large items on my shelf to one. Because of a few power outages, I've witnessed the reboot time of this is half of what the leased modem was. The only downside is I also have home security with the cable company and they had to install a separate "secure" router between my modem and their touchscreen. It's small and not noticeable. I originally got the Orbi because I have a few Nest security cameras and they'd keep dropping off the network. This has stopped that. I just hope this setup lives a lot longer than the last one did.

Thankful for this system!
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I purchased this modem/router system a month ago. My cable company’s (Comcast) new gateway would not cover my home, and my iPhone 7 refused to stay connected to WiFi. Customer service was useless, so decided to ditch their equipment and bought his Orbi instead. Works very well, and was pretty simple to set up. Now my Apple TV, iPhone, iPads, Arlo cameras, and weather station all work throughout my house, and even in my outbuildings and yard, and my speed is faster! And, I’m saving $13/month not renting Comcast’s inferior equipment! Awesome! Take that annoying cable company!

Whole Home Wifi, finally
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I have a home approximately 2000sqft. I had been using the hardware provided by my service provider for my internet access and wifi. In my office where it was all set up I never had issues. The further back of my home I went the less signal strength I would have. Sadly it was not very far away where I started encountering signal strength issues. I had tried a couple different $25-30 wifi extenders over the years but they really didn’t help all that much as I would still encounter buffering issues streaming in my living room. Picked up at Orbi and after getting it set up I saw a dramatic improvement. Setup is fairly simple. Longest part was being on phone with service provider while I was swapping their equipment out for Orbi. After that was done I was good to go. The Orbi app (on my phone) allows me to test my access which is great. I set the satellite up in the living room and the signal strength is almost as good as if I were in my office. Absolutely worth the investment as I expect this will last a long time. Very satisfied with this product.

great wifi system and Sooooo easy to use
||Posted .having bought numerous crap wifi extenders-went to Best Buy and told associate about my not so great Comcast Xfinity Wifi. My home is surrounded by my neighbors all using wifi extenders that my Xfinity wifi was getting smothered. Being skeptical and desperate for wifi so I can use my iPhone, Ipad and movie box without the usual long buffering-set this up as directed. It was sooo easy. At first placing satellite Orbi the color was red and I thought Great another Bust in my home-a sideways ranch smothered by multistory-multi family homes, the satellite Orbi went on line few minutes later. I purchased another satellite so I can smother the folks surrounding me. I have coverage in my entire house including basement which Ive never had before.

Easy to manage settings.
||Posted .Owned for 10 months when reviewed.I purchased this WiFi system to get rid of the Comcast modem/router we were paying for monthly. Purchasing your own modem really pays for itself in the long run and gives you better WiFi coverage for your home. This better Orbi really is easy to configure and install because of the companion app. It let’s you see what devices are connected to your WiFi, and test speeds. If you line in a bigger home you can purchase more satellites to expand coverage in home which is perfect for dead spots in your home. I currently have the one smaller satellite that came with this purchase and is perfect for my 1,500 square foot home, I use to have dead spots with the Comcast router, only draw back in my opinion is price, it’s a little too pricey but really I’ve had no issues.

Q: QuestionWill this work with the Xfinity X1 platform?
Asked by Jerry.
- A:Answer Yes it will. I am using mine with comcast internet service
Answered by Tlando1a
Q: Question“Not compatible with Cable bundled voice services. Contact your internet service provider for more compatibility information.” What does this mean? Suddenlink provides me with internet, cable tv, and phone. ..is this the incompatible “bundle?”
Asked by Rene.
- A:Answer Well depending on how ur provider works this might not work for it. I have comcast and also have the TV internet and phone bundle. My internet runs off the cable wire that comes in the house and I dont use the phone line. Just got the bundle because it was cheaper. What u can ask them is if your internet works off of cable or phone line. If its phone line then this wont work due to it not having a phone Jack. If its cable based then it should as long as they do not make u have a phone line connected in order for everything to work. So if u call and ask them " does my internet run through cable or phone line and if cable line do I need the phone line hooked up to use the internet". If the answer is cable and no need for phone line hooked up then this would be great for you. I have loved it since day one and stand by the brand.

Q: Questionwhat is the wifi range and does the speed change with the satellite ?
Asked by jluis9.
- A:Answer I'm using this router for few months now and I do like the wifi range. It does cover good 3500 to 4000SF home without any problem! I didn't notice any change with speed with good 3500sf.

Q: QuestionIs this the same as NETGEAR Orbi Tri-band Whole Home Mesh WiFi System with 3Gbps Speed (RBK50) If not i’d this system newer, better, faster....
Asked by Merritt.
- A:Answer The RBK50 is a mesh router with one satellite unit. The CBK40 is also a mesh router with one satellite but the main router unit includes a built-in cable modem that connects directly to a coax input from cable companies like Comcast. You can use the CBK40 in place of the Comcast provided modem/router.
Answered by Roadrider
Q: QuestionWhat's the difference between the Netgear Orbi CBK40 and the CBR40?
Asked by jody.
- A:Answer CBR40 is just the cable modem/router and CBK40 is the kit including the cable modem/router and an Orbi satellite.
Answered by Garyz
Q: QuestionDo you plug this into your cable box and get wifi at no extra charge?
Asked by bythec42.
- A:Answer I have the Orbi with cable modem that is approved by my ISP (Spectrum). I do not have any of the cable company/ ISP equipment in my house. No rental fee, no wireless network fee, I just pay for internet connection and taxes. My Ooma phone system and streaming video services work great with Orbi, I have two satellite units to cover whole house.

Q: QuestionCan I link additional Satellites to this Router? Will it affect performance?
Asked by NoReally.
- A:Answer Hi, you can link an additional satellite and it doesn't affect the performance. I have the Orbi modem linked with 3 satellites.
