A complex film which manages to follow the development of an artist from his boyhood to his maturity and fame. It also focuses on the political and social changes in Germany from the 1930s to the1960s. And there is a wonderful love story brilliantly told in the context of those changes. The direction is tight and the photography beautifully done. On all counts a must-see.
Beautifully scripted. Brilliantly performed. A story impossible to forget...NEVER LOOK AWAY is a fictionalized story of noted artist Gerhardt Richter.Although a fictionalized account, it's a definitive masterpiece of an artist defeating oppression and creating personal expression when such personal artistic expression would be punishable by being sent to prison. Awesome cinematography only adds to the exquisite nature of this film.
It's loosely based on Gerhard Richter's life - growing up as a child in Germany during WWll, love affair/marriage, artist in East Berlin, migration to West Berlin just before the wall constructed, emerging to become world class artist
