New York City Ballet Workout [DVD] [2000]

Release Date:03/27/2001
The reason to purchase the New York City Ballet Workout on DVD and not VHS is because it is loaded with special features. Exercise series are indexed, there is a specific breakdown of movements that will assist those training in football, skiing, or racquet sports as well as behind-the-scenes footage. There are video diaries from the four dancers as well as interviews with the director, director of photography, and New York City Ballet bigwigs. There is also an unusual section called "Dance and the City" that simply features images of the dancers in the studio intercut with shots of New York over a bed of music. The audio setup allows the user to decide whether or not to use the instructional voice-over and to choose between classical or contemporary music for the workout. There is also an interactive portion for use with a PC that features a video glossary for the uninitiated, photos, credits, and other information about the project. There is also a booklet loaded with info, instructions, and health precautions.

The New York City Ballet Workout
This video was created by Peter Martins, Ballet Master of the New York City Ballet, for use by the public as a fitness workout. The program consists of 50 stretches and exercises that are designed to develop the grace and flexibility of a dancer. The exercises combine stretching with strengthening to improve body tone and stamina. The student using this method will develop better posture and cardiovascular stamina. The exercises are said to enhance body self-awareness and poise. The exercises are set to classical music. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi
