- A: AnswerYes, there are noticeable differences between this Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Standard lens and the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Standard lens. One difference is that the AF-S 50mm f/1.4 lens has a 9-blade diaphragm while the 50mm f/1.8 lens has a 7-blade diaphragm. This difference allows the AF-S 50mm f/1.4 lens to be remarkably fast and provide an incredibly smooth background blur. Additionally, the AF-S 50mm f/1.4 lens also has one more element and an extra lens group than the AF-S 50mm f/1.8 lens to provide astounding depth of field and amazing low light performance.

Q: QuestionThe autofocus of this lens works with d5100?(5 answers)
A: AnswerQuick answer: Yes. To help you know for the future: The D5000,5100,5200, 3000, 3100, 3200, etc... lines of camera have no internal lens motors, so they will not focus the non-AF-I/AF-S lenses. (Example I have an old Nikon AF 300mm f/2.8 that I just LOVE. All of my cameras have lens motors, so it will autofocus for me. My friend that I go out with to shoot sometimes has a Nikon D3200. Just like your D5100, there is no lens motor in it, so while she CAN use it, it operates as MANUAL focus only. (She can still take gorgeous photos with it though!) So - As general rules: * ANY lens that you see that has AF-S, AF-I, (Nikon) or HSM, (Sigma) or "internal silent focusing motor " (Tokina) should work just fine autofocusing on your camera. * Lenses that are made for "DX" cameras will provide the field of view listed. (18-55mm DX lens will look like 18-55mm) Lenses made for FX or Full-Frame or "35mm FILM" cameras will have their advertised field of view multiplied by a crop-factor of 1.5. (Nikon AF-S 50mm lens will look like 75mm on your camera.) the NON-DX 35mm f/1.4 times 1.5 = 52.5mm, 200mm times 1.5 = 300mm, etc... This gets advantageous for you when you WANT to make far away things LOOK like they are closer. On my D700 & D800 (Excellent cameras!) my 600mm LOOKS like 600mm. But on my D300s or D7100 my 600mm LOOKS like what I would see with a 900mm on my D700 & D800! So for my bird photography, though I love the results I get from my full-frame cameras, unless I am reasonably sure that I am going to get close enough to all the birds I still use my D300s or D7100 so that the birds seem closer! :-)Answered by Knorris908
Q: QuestionWill this lens work on a d750?(3 answers)
A: AnswerThe Nikon D750 DSLR camera has a built-in focus motor. This allows it to work with both AF and AF-S lenses. It is compatible with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Standard lens as well as many other Nikon lenses. The Nikon AF-S 50mm lens is perfect for portraits and delivers superior color, sharpness and high contrast, even in low light situations.Answered by NikonStaff
- A: AnswerThe Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G lens is an amazing lens that will provide stunning images when used with the Nikon D3400 DSLR camera, however, the Nikon 50mm is an FX-format lens, so you will experience a 1.5 magnification crop when using it with any DX-format Nikon DSLR body. This AF-S NIKKOR 50mm is a great prime lens for any growing camera bag. Q: Questioni have a nikon d810 is this a full frame lense(4 answers)
A: AnswerYes it is. Go to the Nikon website. If you select FX as a filter, it is one of the options for your FX body. From their site, "The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G offers a classic, “normal” (50mm) angle of view when used on an FX-format DSLR or 35mm film camera. When used on a DX-format camera, however, it becomes an ideal portrait lens, approximating the moderate telephoto perspective of a 75mm lens on an FX-format DSLR or 35mm film camera. Close focusing to 1.5 ft extends versatility."Answered by Q5Q5
Q: QuestionIs this lens compatible with a Nikon d7200?(3 answers)
A: AnswerThe Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G Standard lens is completely compatible with the Nikon D7200 DSLR camera. This compact prime lens is ideal for stunning portraits and beautifully sharp and vivid landscapes, even in low light situations.Answered by NikonStaff
Q: QuestionHas anyone noticited the lens making a knocking noise when it is focusing?(2 answers)
A: AnswerVerify that you are getting sharp results that are consistent with this lens. Since it is an extremely sharp lens, if you are hearing the knocking noise and aren't getting optimal results, you may want to consider contacting Nikon to verify that there is not any issue. You can find their contact info at NikonUSA.com.Answered by NikonStaff
- A: AnswerThis is a standard 50mm focal length lens. Good for taking portraits of people and family. It's not a wide-angle lens, nor is it a telephoto lens either. It is a single, fixed focal length prime with a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture for shallow depth of field and beautiful background blur to separate your subject with bokeh.

Must have for portraits
My wife and I were expecting a newborn so I got this for her birthday. The images are stunning for portraits even in low light. This is a must have for family portraits. I am a hobby photographer and don't have a lot of time to edit so I want pictures that look great off the camera.

Gorgeous bokeh at an affordable price
I purchased this lens as an upgrade to my 1.8G FX lens. I was looking for the professional 1.4 look and it's there. This lens is a little heavier/meatier than it's 1.8 counterpart. Picture quality is great, I'd say it tends to shoot a little more on the warmer side than the 1.8. Now, I have seen reviews online that the 1.8 is technically sharper. I haven't personally done any side-by-side comparisons, but if you're shooting at 1.4 it's going to be a little soft. If it's between this lens and the 1.8 I think it comes down to how much you want to spend. If you've got the money, go with this lens. If you're on a budget, the 1.8 is a great lens.
